Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular manner. Pattern can be described as a repeating unit of shape or form, but it can also be thought of as the "skeleton" that organizes the parts of a composition. Pattern is a vital area of art because almost all artworks contain pattern in some form.

Damien Steven Hirst, born 7 June 1965, is an English artist, entrepreneur, and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs), who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is famous for his "kaleidoscope" pieces and has also made "spin paintings", created on a spinning circular surface, and "spot paintings", which are rows of randomly colored circles created by his assistants. His pieces are rich in color and originality and he has helped set the stage for other young artists working with pattern
all around the world.
