called and is demanding to speak to the charge nurse. Sara is in the middle of receiving a report
from the Emergency Department as their unit is short-staffed and she is trying to help out the
unit. Sara asks to put the family member on hold till she can finish the ED report. While Sara is
receiving reports she is handed urgent orders from one of the physicians who is talking to her
while she is still getting the report from the ED. The family member hangs up as they felt they
were waiting too long and the unit clerk informs Sara they will be calling the manager instead.
The patient from the ED later arrives on the unit and is found to be different from the report that
was given over the phone although Sara wonders if she heard everything that was said. It is now
0930 hrs and time for the bed meeting and Sara has forgotten to put the numbers into the bed
meeting report. At the bed meeting, Sara’s manager comments on how this is not the first time
numbers have not been put into the bed meeting report. Sara’s manager also requests talking to
