Economists say that the investment in education is one of the best investments that one can make despite the fact that the jobless rate for young adults in Canada is around 9%. Many students are going into arts programs and social sciences rather than engineering and applied sciences. Engineering and applied sciences have very high employment rates, so perhaps it we could try to entice people towards these fields to reduce the youth unemployment and debt levels.

Since the 1990s, the cost has more than tripled in BC. It’s among the top three most expensive provinces for students to pursue their education behind Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Quebec is by far the best province for students because of student protests. On average, it takes students fourteen years to pay off their student loans after they have graduated.

By 2030, half of the jobs in the world will not exist and Canadian institutions aren’t preparing young Canadians for this future. Because so many students are studying for careers that won’t exist, they will have a very difficult time finding well paying jobs that will help them pay off their student loans. The amount of student loan debt that may never be paid off is a problem for Canada as it could cause serious problems for us in the future.

About 60% who graduated are still paying off loans. 30% suggest that students planning on going to college or university should consider talking sometime off to save up before applying. Taking some time off will put students in a better space financially and have money to start their repayment if they still need to turn to loans.

As a result, government funding is the most common source. Students that used sources such as government and non-government loans have created twice the amount of debt than students that only got a loan from one source. As well as it was found that students with a co-op were more likely to pay of the loan in 3 years after graduation.
