Yes, in my elementary and middle school career I definitely covered most, if not all, of the bases that are covered in the ISTE standards. I did this through a class called Computer Lab in elemntry school.

One postive aspect is that it is able to educate young people with these skills, so when they need to apply them in high school and college they wont be left behind. However, a downfall is that people who don't get the education will be unprepared when they get to higher education.

1. Throughout my experience in K12, I clearly remember my school initiating strong research and information fluency into our curriculum. We would be taught what research was considered valid, opposed to invalid sources. This differentiation gave students the opportunity to investigate different sources for different assignments.

2. Positive-- provides concrete guidelines for as to what standards should be met to best benefit the future generations
Negative-- not always installed throughout the school (i.e. private schools)
-no reinforcers?
-no punishments?

Haley Harbuck

I feel like I've met most of the standards like creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, and critical thinking and problem solving. I kept seeing those words at my high school and how colleges and employees care about those skills more than grades. My lower school required a basic understanding of technology and its operations, but it was my choice if I wanted to learn more advanced operations in high school.

I think that one positive aspect of ISTE standards is that it allows a variety of students to meet those standards. If high schools only care about their students getting high GPA's, some students might feel a disadvantage because they are bad test takers. These standards help students develop a variety of skills that they will have to use in real life experiences.

I was really late when it came to getting into technology and before using technology, people have emphasized heavily that I shouldn't behave poorly online. That is what I have been doing.
2) The good thing about the standards is that it will lead people to act civil online even though some might think it's okay not to be since you are not meeting face- to-face.

According to my k-12 experience I believe that I have met the ISTE standards. I went to catholic private school mid way through 4th grade and immediately I could tell that the teachers were harder on me and after reflecting on the catholic school education they really tried to focus on all the major topics. It might not of been specifically but at least indirectly. I went to a private jesuit high school and they taught all about the major point, specifically because one of the Jesuit mottos is cura personalis. They did a good job too integrating technology with our education and research because we used iPads. They also really touched on all the points of the ISTE.

1. According to my K12 experience, I feel I have met at least most of the standards articulated in ISTE. Most of the standards listed involve creativity, use of technology, understanding and analyzing data/information, which I think has been stressed as something important throughout the years in core subjects such as Math, English, Social Studies, Science, etc.

2. One positive aspect of ISTE is that it brings up the importance of collaborating with others. It is important to consider that in education we are not necessarily alone in learning and that is somewhat reflective of the real world outside of school. Something that I think is missing or somewhat a problem is the part about international communication. This is something that I feel is important because it reminds students about others around the world. A problem I have encountered is that this is something not exactly expressed in schools, or at least some private schools I have attended. I think there should be more awareness of what goes on in the world and an understanding of education systems outside of the US.

According to my K12 experience, I have met the standards articulated in the ISTE. In my elementary, middle, and high school years my classes incorporated many activities which highlighted these standards, such as tech classes in elementary school and assignments involving critical thinking and problem solving in middle school and high school. One positive aspect of the ISTE standards is that it includes communication and collaboration skills, which I believe are vital to early education in students. One aspect that is missing is that it makes mention of digital skills in various sections of the ISTE, but I believe it doesn’t highlight oral and written skills enough.

I meet each standard; however I believe I am lacking in a few of the six standards which are deemed crucial. For example, I have better critical thinking, problem solving, and decision . making skills than I do technology skills. I contribute this difference due to the lack of technological knowledge by my K12 teachers.

2. The ISTE standards create many positive aspects; one being teaching and learning are consistent. By the end of K12 all students should meet these standards. They learn them at different times, however all students should meet them no matter what. The ISTE does not take into account the ability of the teachers.
