         <description><![CDATA[<div>A loom is an invention that combines threads to make cloth. The Water-Powered Loom is a steam-powered, mechanically operated and superior version of a regular loom. Because of this, operations that were usually done by humans could be performed mechanically. In 1802, William Horrocks, a cotton manufacturer, improved the Water-Powered Loom. This new and improved Water-Powered Loom used a more effective way of winding woven cloth. In the future, more improvements were made.</div>]]></description>

         <title>How significant was the Water-Powered Loom?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In my opinion the Water-Powered Loom was a very significant invention. It impacted the way people lived on a daily basis. The Water-Powered Loom was able drastically improve the speed of weaving. By 1823, Richard Guest stated that, "a boy or girl aged fourteen or fifteen could manage two power-looms and could produce three and a half times as much as the best handloom weaver". Through this improvement people who weren't skilled were able to receiver work, granted it was with minimal pay. On the other hand, skilled weavers would be put out of business because of these superior machines. Before the Industrial Revolution, weaving cloth was done by hand, and was usually a part-time job. This process was very tedious, and would usually only produce goods of decent quality. The Water-Powered Loom was also able to create many new jobs. By 1850, there were 250,000 Water-Powered Looms in Britain, meaning a multitude of jobs were also created by these machines. The Water-Powered Loom was an significant invention , not only because it created new jobs, but it also improved the speed of weaving.</div>]]></description>
