Plastic bags are destroying our environment, and it's not just effecting our view, it's killing hundreds of animals, on land and in the ocean. According to source #1, e average american uses an estimated 100 billion plastic bags a year, leaving plenty of death traps for innocent animals. Even if you are against the ban, please, recycle!

People on the other side who are against the ban say that 100% of plastic bags are recyclable and about 92% of the U.S. population has access to plastic bag recycling. This is not convincing though because people don't seem to view plastic bags as recyclable and most of them get tossed away, ending up strewn about randomly in the wilderness (woods, oceans, etc).

Yes , plastic bags decompose, that is if they get stuck in the ground and not stuck in trees or on animals. According to source #1, even if the plastic bag gets under ground it takes 500 to 1000 years, and possibly more! You might want to reconsider sticking with plastic bags if you're against the ban.

Reusable plastic bags can be just as bad as single use plastic bags. Source 2 says that reusable bags are made of heavier and thicker plastic or cotton, and that requires more energy to produce. Reusable bags are harder to tear, so if animals get stuck in them, there's is almost no chance of the animal breaking the bag and breaking free.

Even if plastic bags aren't completely eradicated, maybe a tax on them could reduce the amount of plastic bags going into the ocean and the forests. According to source #4, places such as Washington D.C. and Ireland have enforced a tax, Washington put a 5 cent tax on plastic bags and saw an 80% reduction. Ireland put a 33 cent tax on plastic bagsand saw a 94% reduction.
