I agree with Bailyn's point of view. He felt the American colonies were being oppressed, and it violated the rights of all the people who lived there. Versus Zinn who seemed to want to manipulate the lower classes just so that the upper educated class could get the results they wanted.

Personally, I agree with the first modern historian, Bailyn, because he addresses the issue of injustice. He clearly defines and emphasizes the unacceptable treatment of the colonies, and goes into detail about the colonists’ strong beliefs, instead of just scratching the surface of their emotions. His take on the origins of the Revolution are less based on his opinions of how they felt, but more on the factual written record.

I agree with Zinn, one of the the easiest and most effect way to unite a people is with a common enemy. If the higher class of people are influencing a lower class, are they deliberately manipulating them or merely giving them knowledge they didn't have. While I see Bailyn's point, I have to side with Zinn. The Declaration was seen as a uniting cause against a common enemy that all soon to be Americans could fight against for each other. Uniting against the Japanese after their attack is also what brought the country together and into WW2.

I agree with the excerpt from “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn, because of the it sends to the readers. It is basically saying that they need to call all of the revolutionists together so they can rise up against the British. The problem with doing that is finding the right words that can apply to both classes. By getting some of the world’s brightest minds together and writing the Declaration of Independence, they did just that. They dramatically increased their numbers by a ton and, as we know, America went on to win the revolution.
