By the time by dad was about 3-5 they decided to cross over here for many different reasons. First, it was an easier opportunity to get money and a job in my Grandmas eyes. Second, she wanted to make sure her children got a secure education. Over there in Mexico they didn't provide the kids anything they needed. Meaning they had to pay for everything on their own, even including the registration papers. 

  Of course there was obstacles. From taking a bus to Tijuana, to grabbing a car to cross was not easy. She had to pay siete mil, or 7 thousand for them to cross. Which in comparison isn't a lot in this day and age. Even when they all crossed, she worked all day. She left her oldest, who was only 15, to take care of my dad and his brother, along with their other sister who were still really young.   

  When they crossed, it was around the time Cesar Chavez had began his third hunger strike.
