Elliot lives in America, while Kailash lives in India. As Elliot and Kailash write each other letters and send pictures, they both learn about each other more and more. Even though where they live is considered different, they discover similarities within one another. 
Drawing inspiration from this book, I believe that students can also write a letter to their pen pal as an activity. As shown from the book, Elliot and Kailash have learned so much about each other such as where they live, who is in their family, etc. I think that is a great way for students to be able to connect and be able to learn from each other. This activity can be an exchange from another district/school or even a school from another country.

She arrives at her new school but faces difficulty in accepting her name the way it is because it is seen as different from her classmates. This story shows us how we should embrace our own cultural identities and also learn to respect differences within our classroom community. 
This book would be a great beginning to introduce each of our own unique names/pronunciations on the first day of school.  It is important for each student to be comfortable with their identities, whether or not it sounds similar or different from their classmates. Alex's father makes the discovery that his son could "float", which is said to be a metaphor for childhood mental differences like autism and ADHD. Alex's ability to float makes him different from other kids, which leads to his father hiding him from the public. This film delivers the message of embracing uniqueness instead of what's defined as "normal" in our society. It also is a message for parents to love your child for who they are and embracing the differences. 
This film could teach the theme of accepting others for who they are not only in the classroom but also in our communities. I think that this film could lead into a discussion about how it is important it is to embrace our own uniqueness and follow up with a classroom activity about what makes each of us unique.

As the audience, you can see the frustration in Ian's face as he struggles to play with the kids his age. This film sends out a message that children with disabilities can and should be included regardless. In my classroom, I would use this film to educate students on the topic of inclusion, understanding, and togetherness. I think that it would be a great idea for students to write about how Ian must have felt being different and excluded on the playground in the beginning. (writing journals) This way, students can explore Ian's feelings and how he wanted to play just like the rest of his peers. I would want to teach students to learn to respect one another in the school community, despite the differences that we may have.

As each child shares their language, the others would repeat and try to follow the phrases. Each child was enthusiastic to learn about each other and would try to guess which language was spoken. Not only was language shared, but different customs such as songs, traditional dances were also shared during the show and tell. This video strongly displays diversity and togetherness as each child was accepting of each other's languages. It also gives each child a different perspective of each other and promotes a better understanding of each other's culture. 
Drawing inspiration from this video, I would like to have a show and tell in the classroom whether it is sharing different languages or even sharing physical objects pertaining to a student's culture.
