Burning fossil fuels: fossil fuels that have been stored underground for thousands of years such as oil, gas, and coal produce carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) when they are burnt for things such as motors and power plants.

Deforestation: as trees can store and change carbon dioxide back into oxygen, when they are cut down, they release CO2 and there is nowhere for the greenhouse gas to go which causes it to build up quicker.

Volcanic eruptions: although volcanic eruptions cannot be controlled, they can still affect global warming due to the gases released. Eruptions produce aerosol particles which actually cool the earth down but then also produce carbon dioxide.

One of the largest effects of global warming is the melting of glaciers and ice sheets which cause the lea level to rise, if this carries on places sat at sea level will become flooded and underwater.

More severe storms will happen when the earth is hotter due to more moisture being evaporated which exaggerates extreme rainfall and flooding which causes more destructive storms.

With the hotter temperatures wildfires can start significantly easier due to the ground and humidity being dryer. This can also have a knock-on effect on wildlife and civilizations as they can become burnt down.
