Community members should not be able to do banned books because 1. its their opinion and 2. the child might be on a mature level of reading. I think teen books should be allowed in middle school but not elementary schools. On the other hand, I believe that the community should and can have some power over what we read, but must be reasonable and just. An example would be the immortal rules is a great book but has often used profanity and romance. This does not make it a bad book, it just means mature kids should only read it.

Community members should not be able to control what books are in the library because people have either a liking or not a liking to a book. That doesn't necessarily mean it should be taken away. If a book has strong language, or inappropriate content, don't you think the author would know that?? The author wrote the book knowing that if it wasn't approved they could write something different. But, if an author wrote something and it would be banned or challenged, why was it approved? Why would you take away a book that was approved by the publisher? It is understandable that there could be limits set to a book if the person that had limits was a child, but if a book was meant for a child, it should be noticed that the author wanted the child to experience that topic or knowledge.

I do believe that community members should be able to control what books are in the library, but not for unreasonable reasons. Sometimes books are a little unreasonable with the things they talk about. If a book has full detail of the gore in a killing and it's gross and brutal, I believe it should be challenged, or at least removed from school libraries, if it simply says, "he died" I think people should grow up. When I researched the challenge of Anne Frank's diary, I can agree that it was inappropriate. When I read why Harry Potter was challenged for, I will say it again, people just need to grow up.

If there is a book that has something inappropriate or lots of language, then they should ban the book. The books should not be banned if it is based on religion because some people believe in it.

Community members should/should not be able to control what books are in the library considering the facts of the different environments people were raised in. Some could have been very sheltered as kids and others could have learned of the world early, they are going to be exposed at some point in their life. One book has been challenged because they felt it was insulting to something they have in their life. Where as another may not see it as bad, just words on a page. Its all about perspective.

I find my statement true because people should be able to control what they want, and do not want to read whether its challenged or not and should be left in the libraries for people to read. For example Harry Potter is challenged because of its occult things in the book. However Harry Potter is a award winning book that is put on display all over the world.
