We will make a big world map to learn about where people grew up! Each student will add a sticker to the place/city their family is from or a country they want to learn about. Together, we will look at the map, talk about what we see, and share.

This activity helps us celebrate our differences, learn about the world, and show respect.

From experience I believe that having a guest speaker visit the class to share more knowledge from their background and culture is a great way to contribute diversity in education. The teacher may briefly introduce the topic and then the class can debrief what they learned from both the teacher and guest speaker.

During Fun Friday or whenever there is time for a brain break a fun way to get the children up and moving can be to incorporate a cultural song or dance to learn. For example for Hispanic Heritage month the children can learn how to dance to "El Caballo Dorado" which is similar to the "Achy Breaky Heart" dance. The children get to have fun moving while also learning about a popular Hispanic dance.
