The purpose of the article was to highlight important details on the subject of euthanasia, showing the whole picture by speaking on both sides of the argument, but ultimately saying that under the right circumstances, euthanasia should be legal. The article touches on the history of euthanasia and PAD, also speaking on legal stances and ethical arguments both for and against the topic, such as the sanctity of life, or on the other side of the spectrum, self autonomy. This article would be appealing to those interested in the subject of medical ethics and or social issues, also touching on the legal matters and philosophical aspects of the topic. One of the most prominent and recurring rhetorical appeals in the article would be logos. The authors use of facts, statistics, dates, and legalities illustrates this. The source gives standpoints from both sides of this argument but concludes that it is a valid option for terminally ill patients. they touch on points like the patient's individual autonomy, relieving their suffering, and having dignity in their death. One weakness in this piece of writing is that the author tries to use pathos as another rhetorical appeal but the overall tone of the article doesn't fit this as much, making it feel out of place and awkward. Overall, the article expresses well written rebuttals to arguments made against euthanasia and explains valid reasons as to why euthanasia should be legalized.

The author tells the story of his experience with euthanasia, being open about the physical and emotional implications of this process. He starts by recounting his wife being diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. He goes on to describe as her condition progressively got worse and worse, highlighting how when they were younger they advocated for euthanasia to be legalized. Eventually, his wife's health declined to a point where they both knew it was time for her to be euthanized. They make their arrangements and eventually the day of her passing arrives. Despite the authors pain, he made sure to fulfill all of his wives dying wishes. People interested in the topic of euthanasia, particularly their laws in the Netherlands, could find this article interesting. Pathos is used throughout the writing, illustrating the mental pain the author went through, and the physical pain his wife suffered. It further emphasizes how much they believed that euthanasia was the right decision, that he still put his trust in this process despite this grief. The source clarifies that euthanasia is a very thorough and thought through process, where there are many precautions in place to make sure the patient is of sound mind. It also clarifies that it is the patients decision whether to go through with euthanasia, and that when these circumstances are met, the patient can die peacefully.

One weakness about the writing that could be considered is that this is just one story, from one viewpoint. Other people may have gone through something very similar to this but had very different perspectives on the matter. One of the arguments that people who are against euthanasia make is the grief that loved ones will go through. This article shows that this is bound to happen, but despite this the family can understand why the patient would want to do this and that in situations like these having control is better than having to live in paranoia.

The purpose of the article is to share arguments on the subject of euthanasia and explain why legalizing it is the best decision and it should be permitted. The author shares the story of Diane Pretty. She was suffering from a fatal disease, she wanted to commit suicide, but was left paralyzed by the disease so she would have needed help. However, the law in England wouldn’t have allowed this to happen. The article goes on to share arguments made against euthanasia and assisted suicide, then shares the arguments in favor of the legalization of it. It states that, while the arguments made against euthanasia are strong, the ones made for it are stronger. The article may to appeal to people first getting interested in the debate over euthanasia, wanting to learn more about the arguments that each side makes, forming their own opinion on the subject. Both logos and pathos are used in the writing. Logos is used in the evidence that the author uses. This includes the story about Diane Pretty and examples they give about the systems in Oregon versus the Netherlands. Pathos is also used in Pretty's experience. The article describes the arguments made for and against the legalization of assisted suicide, explaining these in simple terms that can be easily digested by anyone that may be interested in the topic. The article does not delve deep into ethical and religious aspects and their affects on people opinions on the subject of euthanasia. Despite this, the article clearly describes considerations to be made on both sides of the argument of euthanasia. These include legal and ethical aspects. The author states their opinion clearly that they believe legalizing euthanasia is the best option with direct reasoning and explanations as to why.

The main purpose of this article was to advocate for the legalization of euthanasia in Canada and provide basic information on what euthanasia is and the legal matters that come with it. The article argues for euthanasia to be legalized in Canada, sharing a story, survey results, and improving statistics related to euthanasia in other countries where it is legalized. Those affected by this article could be people who have felt the same way as the man in the beginning, or had loved ones that felt this way. That if you are not able to do these things that you love most, there is no point to living. This is an example of pathos. This article also uses logos as a rhetorical appeal. This is seen when the author uses statistics from a survey done to find how many died from euthanization and how often it was done regardless of it not being requested. The author clarifies different concerns that people have had with euthanization, such as the aspect of consent. sharing statistics that show that cases where patients are euthanized without requesting it are decreasing. One weakness in the writing is that it doesn't address the other side of the argument much, not offering a clear counterargument. The writing addresses the topic of euthanasia and assisted suicide, standing up for the acceptance of euthanasia in Canada. The author aims to persuade readers in believing in this cause using different rhetorical devices that appeal to different people.
