Notes about Harry and his journey:

Harry is a wizard, but not a full-blood.

He discovers that he is a wizard on his 11th birthday and receives his acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

His mother, Lily Potter, was a Muggle-born witch, and his father, James Potter, was a pure-blood wizard. This makes Harry a half-blood because he has one magical parent

While the story progress, he learns about his parents' tragic deaths at the hands of the dark wizard Voldemort.

He's family are very well known which makes his name famous too.

When he was still a baby, his name became known throughout the wizarding world due to an event that resulted in Voldemort's temporary downfall. When Voldemort tried to eliminate Harry as a baby, the curse rebounded on him because of the protective power of Lily Potter's selfless love, leading to Harry's early fame.

He's the chosen one to kill the evil lord.

HP: SS in relation to Mythologies and Folklores:

Harry Potter's story follows the classic hero's journey archetype, where a young hero embarks on an adventure, faces challenges, and ultimately triumphs over evil.

Note:

Not including some characters to prevent spoilers (Specifically, Snape's Character).

These are my personal takes focusing solely on Philosopher's Stone rather than taking into consideration the whole saga.

1 Hero/Orphan - Harry James Potter

3 Donors -Hagrid (Hogwarts Letter), Minerva (Nimbus 2000), Albus (Invisibility Cloak)

2 Villains - Quirrell, Voldemort

3 Dispatchers (Herald) - Sends the Hero on Quest - Hagrid, Albus, Firenze

5 Helpers - Ron (Troll “Wingardium Leviosa!”, Chessboard, Emotional Support during Christmas and Everywhere), Hermione (Setting Snape on Fire >:[, Book: Potions Riddle, Film: Lumos Solem - Devil’s Snare ), Albus (Cloak, Rescuing Harry after the fight, talking to Harry in front of the Mirror of Erised), Hagrid (Told Harry how to get past Fluffy, Emotional Support companion, Parental Guardian, best giant ever <3), Firenze ( “Do you know what lies in Hogwarts that gives life?”, Rescues Harry out of the Forbidden Forest BOOK <- the movie depicted it differently and this is important.

1 Everyman - Neville Longbottom - shows what it is like to not really be good in the Wizarding World - How the readers would experience the sudden throw of Magic.

3 Tricksters (2 in Film) - Weasley Twins - they generally remove the seriousness of the event - Harry is becoming a seeker, Fred and George introduce themselves. I’m placing Draco as a trickster rather than a villain even though looking in the series as a whole, Draco can be a villain. I think in the first movie, he is more of a trickster for me. In BOOK: Peeves is there, he hinders Harry in finding out about the Philosopher’s Stone in the first part - takes away the tension, and once more when they are under the invisibility cloak and Harry pretends to be the Bloody Baron.

6 Guardians (2 in Film) - Fluffy (Cerberus in Greek Myth) standing in front of the Trapdoor (Hagrid), Devil Snare (Sprout), Flying Keys (Flitwick), Chess Board (Minerva), In BOOK: Potion Riddle (Severus), 1 Larger Troll (Quirrell BUT Quirrell is not a guardian due to this since when they arrived in the book, it is dead lol.)

RELATING TO ANCIENT MYTH AND ARCHETYPES

Harry Potter is seen as updated, modernized version of ancient myths. As such it is what Campbell talks about as guides to teach young people about their life and offer live models. Here are some things the movie is related to mythology:

1. The Sorcerer's Stone can be compared to an elixir under names like 'nectar of deathlessness', 'drinkable gold' or in Norse mythology, 'rejuventating apples'. We can relate it to modern times, where people seek eternal youth through the images of models and influencers.

2. Fluffy in comparison to Cerberus of Greek Mythology. Hagrid hinted he got Fluffy from "a Greek chappie". Cerberus is a three-headed dog who guards the gates to Hades.

Campell claims that mythology worldwide has parallels (similar in themes but characters do not look alike). Another comparison is Garm from Norse mythology who guards Hel, only that he has one head. The parallel of guarding dogs is evident.

3. The playing of a harp to make Fluffy fall asleep can be compared to Orpheus playing the lyre to do the same to Cerberus and bring back his wife from Hades.

4. The archetype of number 'three'. This number is believed to be mythical and holy. - 3 headed dog, 3 friends (Harry,Ron, Hermione), 3 rings of Quidditch, 3 donors (Hagrid, Minerva, Albus). In the Bible, 3 Gods (Father,Son,Holy Spirit), 3 days before resurrection. In Greek, 3 powerful Gods (Zeus, Poseidon, Hades) who rules the earth, seas, and underground.

5. Harry as a hero.

- Born of a muggler and wizard, he is compared to typical heroes who were born out of a woman and a god.

- Hero fights a monster, Harry fights Voldemort who cannot be named, which equates to a monster.

- Branding (the scar on Harry's forehead), which branded him as the 'boy who survived'.

- The journey of the archetype of the hero introduced by Campbell is divided into 3 stages:

1. Separation- at 11 Harry left the Dursleys to move to Hogwarts.

2. Initiation- He faced many evil forces (the top conflict is protecting the sorcerer's stone)

3. Return- Harry triumphs over Voldemort and gets rewarded.

6. The wise old man archetype in the character of Dumbledore. He looks after Harry after his parents were killed. He resembles Zeus through his long silvery hair and beard. In Norse mythology, he can be compared to Oden.

Conclusion: People no longer read or talk about ancient myths. But through movies like Harry Potter which are modernized versions of myths, the youth can be provided with life models.
