Muslims are encouraged to be conscious of their intentions in all of their actions, whether they are acts of worship or daily tasks, because it is thought that a clear and honest goal increases the sincerity and reward of the activity. A good deed done with a pure and honest motive is more valued in Allah's eyes than one done with a selfish or insincere intention. Similarly, a wrong action undertaken with evil intent is deemed more wicked than an action done mistakenly or with good intention.

Some of the prohibited actions were sexual, indecencies and wrangling.

Allah mentioned that the material covering then mentioned the spiritual covering, humbleness, obedience and Taqwa is all we need while perform Hajj in sacred land.

I believe that Allah wouldn't want us to think other unimportant matters as it will do no good for us. He also encouraged us to do good things and bring provisions for Hajj ; as he is the knowledgeable og the good day they do also will reward them with best awars on the Day of Resurrection.

2) Same as the first reflection, Allah encouraged us to Sadaqah because it gives to benefits; come clean out from sins and greeds that generate from wealth and provide support for the weaker components of society.

In my opinion, Allah is trying to help us regain our physical and mind strength by motivating sadaqah in one's heart. Sadaqah will slowly influences our mind from being materialism and removes residual effects and makes purification perfect.

3) This video talks about our number one priority in life ;

principle, fairness, justice, consciousness of Allah, honesty, truthfulness where the fundamental obligations teaches those principles reinforce those principles. Obligations included prayer and fasting while prohibited includes alchohol and zina.

He mentioned principle is how we practically bring the remembering Allah as a fundamental principle, also we have to practice the principles in every single obligation. We have to be clear enough of principles not became confuse about it.

For example, when we see kaabah, we trying to touch black stone, it seems we have rituals but dont recognize any principles. Therefore, we will have no improvements of getting benefits in everything we did in life. Religion supposed to become beautifuls, not ugly.

It is not just when it comes to worshipping Allah, but also it comes before we start all of our actions / ibadah in our daily life. The good intention can lead someone closer to Allah, people around them and also easy to achieve all of things they want in their life. As example; when someone has an intention to buy a present to their parents (good intention) or an intention to strive in studies so that they will accomplish their goals (good intention), Allah will ease them to make it happen. It may seem a simple intention to everyone, but the meaning behind it can boost someone’s happiness and confidence. That’s why in order to get all of the good things to happen in our life, we need to have a good intention before we start our action!

Reasons and Hikmah of Ibadah

"Why are you praying?"

"Why are you do Hajj?"

The first answer we think must be because we want to go to heaven.. we do not want sin.. But we don't look for the main reason why Allah tells us to do worship and forbids us to do maksiat. The obligation and prohibitions that will make us obedient servants. According to the video, he said that human being should:

remember

grateful

taqwa

think

reflect

To get this criteria, we must fulfill the obligations and avoid the prohibitions. But it also needs to be done sincerely and earnestly. Sadly, people are now more concerned with the external, for example "How long is she selawat?". But these sunnah are to beautify our worship. Imagine we are decorating a house (ibadah) that does not exist. So, fix the main thing first which is our ibadah (principle).

Hajj and sadaqah are one of the many ibadah in Islam. Hajj is the pilgrimage made to the Kaaba, and sadaqah is a charity made willingly.

Both acts of ibadah are to be done for Allah SWT and nothing else. However, humans today are greedy for pahala, to the point where we glorify pahala instead of doing things for Allah. Ask someone why they congregate for solah, they say that they will receive more pahala rather than when they perform it alone. And so, they have forgotten the true meaning of solah.

At the end of the day, is it our ritual of performing our ibadahs the one that prevents are from sinning and committing maksiat, or is it our understanding of the ibadahs and why we perform then, and our understanding of the quran and the reverence we gain from it, is the one preventing us from sinning?

Whoever migrates with an intention for Allah and His messenger, the migration will be for the sake of Allah and his Messenger. And whoever migrates for worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration will be for the sake of whatever he migrated for."

In our first session, we learned about this hadith and discussed how it emphasizes the importance of intention in our daily actions. We explored how even mundane tasks like sleeping, cooking etc can become acts of worship when done with sincere intentions. This idea helps us see that being close to God isn't just about praying, but also about how we live our lives.

In the video, it’s revolves around fundamental teachings and principles of Islam: our religion is actually a set of principles (what does Allah want from a human being?) includes qualities, thought, attitudes, emotions, and beliefs (tawheed).

Fundamentals qualities that human being should have; a successful slave to Allah

remember, grateful, have taqwa, think and reflect.

The foundational obligations prescribed by Allah serve to underscore the essential elements of Islam in our lives. Take, for instance, the obligation of prayer (solat), which is integral to fulfilling the primary directive of remembering Allah.

Yet, in contemporary times, there exists a disconnect within the ummah, where many fasting individuals fail to grasp that the purpose of fasting is to nurture taqwa. Similarly, while prayer is acknowledged as a duty, its deeper significance and purpose often evade our understanding, as our focus remains fixated on accruing rewards (pahala) rather than embodying the underlying principles.

Success in our faith journey is not solely contingent upon the performance of rituals like prayer, but rather, it hinges upon our adherence to the guiding principles of Islam.

Every prohibition delineated by Allah serves to safeguard these principles from violation. Consider prayer, for instance; it serves as a shield against immorality and indecency, which pose a threat to the integrity of these foundational qualities in our lives.

1)The verse (Quran 29:45) tells Prophet Muhammad to recite what's revealed to him, It suggests a simple way to guide people to Islam: reciting the Quran and praying. Quran recitation is essential, and prayer helps avoid bad actions. But if prayer doesn't stop sin, it means that there is some flaw in his prayers. The verse (Quran 2:197) says that In the state of consecration ( ihram ), pilgrims should avoid intimate relations, disobedience, and arguments. It also advises taking provisions for the journey, but the most important thing is to fear Allah. The verse (Quran 9:103) says that Zakah is an act of worship (Ibadah) and is not just to help those in need but also as an act of purification for the giver.

2) The core teachings of Islam focus on remembering Allah, being grateful, having Taqwa (consciousness of Allah), thinking, and reflecting. These ideas are put into action through daily practices like performing Solat to remember Allah. Obligations and prohibitions help reinforce these principles in our lives. Good deeds, like following the Sunnah, help improve our character. Unfortunately, nowadays, people often mix up obligations and enhancements, forgetting the core principles. The agreements among the Prophet's companions, called Ijma Sahabah, come in three forms: agreements on events, among scholars, and among governors. Today, some claim there's agreement among the companions without proof. Lastly, scholars give rulings through Ijtihad. For instance, Mazhab Maliki says bleeding doesn't invalidate wudu, while Mazhab Hanafi disagrees.

After watching the video and reading those tafseer, I started thinking about why we do things like Hajj and giving to charity (Sadaqah) in Islam. They say we should do these things to show we appreciate Allah, not just to get something for ourselves. Now, I see the point...It's about remembering Allah and thinking about how we behave. I'm learning it's not just about doing the actions, but also understanding why we do them is important. Hajj and Sadaqah help make our hearts cleaner and help other people too. They also say we shouldn't let ourselves get distracted when we pray or do Hajj, which means we need to stay focused and humble. These posts show that Islamic practices are about more than just doing certain actions, they're about being good in everything we do.

What is Ibadah, and what are its benefits?

Ibadah, which translates to "worship" in most Arabic translations, is the term for deference, obedience, and devotion to God. Linguistically, the word implies "obedience with submission". Ibadah has implications of humility, obedience, and submission in Arabic and is related to words like "Ubudiyyah" ("slavery"). Ibadah is arguably the most fundamental part of Islam.

Feeding the hungry, tending to the sick, praying for others, fasting, reciting the Quran, carrying out Hajj and performing other deeds of compassion without any thought of self-interest, but just seeking the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala, will all count as part of your Ibadah. To put it simply, if you live your life in accordance with the law and of Allah SWT, you have countless opportunities to reap blessings. As a result, when a person does good deeds and abstains from evil, all worldly wants vanish from his heart. This is the real aim of Ibadah.

Prayer in Islam serves as a daily spiritual reset, cleansing us from mistakes and guiding us toward the right path, akin to the purification journey of Hajj. Similarly, ibadah, or worship, acts as a means to recharge our spiritual selves, fostering peace, purpose, and connection with the divine. It's about more than just rituals, it's about nurturing our inner selves and strengthening our relationship with Allah, embodying fundamental principles like remembrance, gratitude, and taqwa.

The essence of Islam lies in its principles, encompassing qualities, attitudes, and beliefs, not just rituals. From prayer to fasting, these obligations aim to instill taqwa and uphold foundational qualities. However, contemporary understanding often focuses on rewards rather than embodying these principles. Success in faith is not solely about rituals but adherence to guiding principles, with every prohibition serving to safeguard these principles. Ultimately, ibadah encompasses obedience, devotion, and submission to Allah, manifesting in selfless deeds that seek His pleasure and lead to spiritual fulfillment.

Khusu' is essential when doing our salah, and the salah will be pointless if we fail to remain khusyu' and distracted from the start to the end. It is also when we stand in front of Allah as slaves, completely submissive.

Apart from that, salah is one of Allah's most valued deeds since it brings us closer to Him. As a result, salah should always be done with full effort in order for Allah SWT to accept it and bless us.

Topic : Khushu' In Salah

Khushu' in Salah is important in every Muslim's life. In Surah Al-Mukminun, it stated how we as a Muslim should be humble in our Salah. Those "who are humble in their ṣalah" are mentioned at the beginning of the section, while those "who consistently maintain their prayers" are mentioned in the ninth āyah. As a result, salah appears at the start and the finish of the list, indicating its enormous importance.

Khushu' also happened when we have emptied our heart and occupies our heart with ibadah for Allah. In my opinion, khushu is essential for remember Allah in our heart, find our inner peace, guidance and strengthen our iman. We also could find ourself back to Him, becames more a good person and focus on ibadah. Thus, the quality of our Salah should be premium and exceptional for Allah as the one who created us.

It has been said in the video and websites on how benefits of Khushu' will put good use on each Muslim. Also, Allah will definitely loves people who are hardworking and practice Khushu in salah for his entire life. Besides, reading the articles and video has encouraged me to improve my quality of salah to find His blessings more in my life.

Khusyu' in Solat

From the article and video, there are two topic that I think they want to emphasis on which is solat and khusyu'.

First of all, lets dive in the article topic which is khusyu' in solat. Khusyu' is a thing that need to be done in the heart. If a person is khusyu' during a prayer, then the limbs will also be khusyu' because his heart is khusyu' to perform the prayer. Easy to say, khusyu' same as focus, if your heart is focus to do something, basically the body will follow. It is pointless if the solat that you did got distracted from other thing from the start to the end of your solat.

Secondly, from the video, the word "prayer is a guard against sins" and "prayer is the most beloved of deeds of Allah" stick the most to me. It is because, by praying, its forbid us from doing every types of sins, either minor or major ones. If there are people who are not stop sinning but still praying, it's the same as they are not praying because their prayers are not recorded by them. However, do not let

Other than that, as prayer also bringing closeness to Allah, even if you are having a hard time getting close to Him, do not stop praying because prayer is like a flowing river near your house where you can take bath how many time you want and anytime you want. Just remember that prayer is there and always be there that will bring you back. Don't give up the prayer because of sins that you have done, because not all prayer are equal. A true prayer is when you immersed yourself five times a day to do it.

In both the talk and the article, they're really emphasizing how important prayer is. It's not just a habit, it's like having a special talk with Allah. Dr. Omar Suleiman compares prayer to a clean stream that washes away bad stuff inside you, while the article says prayer isn't real if you're not really into it. They basically say that even if you're not perfect, you should still pour your heart into prayer and be punctual. They're saying that prayer is a big deal from Allah, so you should treat it with lots of care.

On top of that, instead of just going through the motions, they want you to make sure your prayers show how much you want to connect with Allah. Also, they talk about being humble during prayer, which adds another important point. Overall, they're saying it's important to be humble, sincere, and focused when we pray, and they suggest some tips like understanding the Quran verses, finding a quiet place to pray, and not rushing through it.

From the 2 articles,I read about khusyuk prayer, we can take a lesson that our every behavior and charity should be by remembering Allah. This is because many of us focus too much on the world and get carried away during prayer which sometimes causes us to forget the real purpose of prayer. As Allah mentions in the Al-Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah verse 152, "remember Me; I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful." (02: 152) that when we remember Allah then Allah will remember us and remind us of His greatness and power bestowed upon us. So, when we start our prayer by remembering Allah, we will automatically be more solemn and feel close to our Creator.

And after I watched the youtube video, I was able to find out that each stanza of the call to prayer has a deep meaning about the call to prayer. It is not simply a call to prayer to call people to pray but as a reminder to humans that whatever work we do, we need to return to the creator when the time comes (prayer time, worship time). God created the day to work but in every work you need blessings and mercy from God. So, we always have to be careful to remember about our obligation to perform the prayer perfectly and solemnly. In addition, we need to avoid the nature of ripples when doing worship and need to stay away from the nature of Al-Qalla, which is the intercession of liking the praise of others when performing worship because the Messenger of God hated this kind of behavior.

khusu' in solat

Khusu' is very important when we performing our ibadah and if we not khusu' then all our worship will be in vain. Khusu' also when we focusing doing something for example in performing the pray. There are also ulama who interpret khusu in prayer as a person's low self-esteem when standing in front of HIM, who knows all unseen things.

There is also a verse in the Qur'an that says that Allah condemns those who do not khusu' in their prayers. People who are not khusu' are considered hypocrites and lazy in their worship.

In the video, he explains how to get khusu', which is by doing dzikir before starting an ibadah. This is because, the dzikir is as if we take a little break to forget about duniawi things before starting to do ibadah. The example that has been given is when adzan was recite which signals the arrival of prayer time. during that period, people will slowly leave their jobs and go to the mosque to pray. just like dzikir, this act gives us time to forget the world for a while, while we remembering Allah. Therefore, the worship performed will come together with khusu'.

Khusyuk is something that must be done at all times during prayer. Incorporating khusyuk into all aspects of the prayer is a sunnah that will enhance its perfection. Shaykh Hasan Ali said, to increase khusyuk, we must try and do some zikir before our prayer to get our mind into a mode of thinking about Allah.

Khusu’ in Solat

Both of articles and video emphasises about the essence of solat which mean khusu’. Solat is a fardhu kifayah and that’s the only ibadah that Muslim must do 5 times a day. But knowing that how Muslim perceive it as an important chores but truly not give their best to be with Allah when performing prayers is just wrong. It’s like just a useless thing they’ve ever do in their daily life because there will be no goodness in them. Allah wouldn’t have accept their 5 times prayers without khusu’ even if they do every single day without fail. That’s how important khusu’ is. Performing prayers with khusu’ makes a person closer to Allah because they surrender themselves completely to Allah. And that can prevent them doing sins and bad things or the prayer would cover their previous sins.

Khusyuk is describe by Imam Al-Hanbali as the feeling of softness of the heart, calmness and absolute reverance to God. Every muslim should strive to achieve this yet it is not so easy. This can only be achieved when we have emptied out all that is troubling us in both the heart and the mind and fill it with Allah, and this too can only be achieved when we understand the Quran, of why we were ordained by God to pray. Only then, can we strive to achieve it.

But humans today do not understand the Quran, yet they try to understand something else instead. Reading books upon books of human creation but putting aside the one book made by Allah. However sad this reality is, it is the truth.

Khusyuk of solah is a way to strenghten our iman. A stronger iman may lead to amar makruf nahi mungkar. And may more Muslims strive for it.

When we talk about Khusyuk, what comes to mind is usually solat. In this sense, we defined Khusyuk as pure focus and clarity in prayer. It is to completely empty one's heart and full occupy his mind and heart with Allah's words until he no longer pays attention to anything else besides solat.

However, Khusyuk is not limited to just solat. If we defined it as "the act of the heart where it includes the feeling of fear and humility while facing Allah SWT", we can see that there are a lot of things in which we need to practice or implement Khusyuk. For example, studying in univeristy, giving donations, helping others, even wearing our clothes. Our intentions must be directed toward Allah in some way as we are his slaves and we depend on The Sustainer.

Prayer is crucial for getting closer to Allah and being obedient. The Quran warns against neglecting prayer, calling those who do hypocrites. They only pray to show off, not sincerely. Being humble and focused during prayer (Khusyuk) is important. It means submitting to Allah with devotion, ignoring worldly distractions. It is a sunnah requirement that makes the prayer more complete. Before praying, thinking about religious things helps you focus better during prayer. When you hear the call to prayer, it reminds you to stop what you're doing and get ready to pray. In the past, people made sure to leave work early so they could pray properly and have time alone to think about their faith.

It's that deep sense of focus and humility that we bring to our prayers. Imagine standing in front of the Creator of the universe – it's pretty awe-inspiring! Khushoo' helps us connect with Allah on a deeper level and feel His presence during Salah.

But, let's be real, keeping khushoo' isn't always easy. Distractions sneak in, our minds wander, and before we know it, the prayer is over, and we haven't really connected. So, how do we improve? Well, it's like training a muscle – it takes practice. We can start by understanding what we're saying in our prayers, slowing down our recitation, and finding a quiet, clean space to pray. Plus, remembering the purpose of Salah – to worship Allah – can help us stay focused. With time and effort, we can make our prayers more meaningful and build that beautiful connection with our Creator.

TAFSEER

On this week, Sr Sara shares several links about Ibadah.

1) PILMIGRIMAGE (HAJJ) (2:197)

Based on Tafsir Jalalayn:

This verse mentions about The pilgrimage (Hajj). The passage outlines the proper conduct and preparations for the Hajj, specifying that it occurs during the months of Shawwal, Dhu'l-Qa'da, and the first ten days of Dhu'l-Hijja. Pilgrims must abstain from lewdness, sexual intercourse, wickedness, acts of disobedience, and quarreling once they enter the state of ihram. It advises pilgrims to bring necessary provisions to avoid burdening others but emphasizes that the best provision is taqwa. The passage concludes by reminding pilgrims to fear God and act with reverence and humility. Next,

Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim:

The Hajj rites occur during specific, known months and culminate in the first ten days of Dhu'l-Hijja when the main rituals are performed at the Ka'ba. Those who undertake Hajj must avoid worldly matters, including sexual activity, indecencies, and quarreling, until all religious rites are completed. Any good deeds will be known to Allah. Pilgrims should prepare adequately for their journey, but the best preparation is piety. The passage concludes by urging people of understanding to revere Allah.

2) OBLIGATORY ALMSGIVING (ZAKAH) (9:103-105)

Based on Tafseer Ma'ariful Quran:

The passage explains that Zakah is a universal and perpetual obligation for all Muslims, not limited to the Prophet Muhammad's SAW time. It is the responsibility of an Islamic state to collect and distribute Zakah. The incident during Abu Bakr's khalifah, where he enforced Zakah even after the Prophet's death, highlights its importance.

Zakah is primarily an act of Ibadah, in the verse: خذ من أموالهم صدقة (take out of their wealth) appearing soon after صدقة تطهرهم وتزكيهم بها which means sadaqah aimed at purifying the giver's wealth and soul, with the secondary purpose of supporting the needy. This obligation remains even if there are no needy individuals, as its main goal is the spiritual benefit of the giver.

Also, in the same verses mention about:

3) PRAYER& SADAQAH

The passage explains that the word "salah" in the phrase "وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ" (and pray for them) means praying for Allah's mercy. The Prophet Muhammad SAW used this term to pray for others, such as in "اللَّھم صل علی آل أبی أوفى" (O Allah, bless the family of Abu Awfa). Over time, the term "salah" became specific to prophets, and jurists advised against using it for others to avoid ambiguity. However, it is permissible to use it for others when mentioned with a prophet, "اللَّھم صل علی محمد وعلی آله و أصحابه".

The passage also notes that the Prophet was instructed to pray for those who give Sadaqah (charity). Some jurists believe the Muslim leader must pray for those who give Sadaqah, while others see it as recommended (mustahabb).

ESSENTIAL OF ISLAM- NOUMAN ALI KHAN

CONCENTRATION IN PRAYER (KHUSYUK)

Khusyuk when praying

Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah said that khusyuk is standing before God with full submission and feelings of humiliation. The verse from Surah al-Ma'un (5) criticizes those who are negligent in their prayers. Scholars like Imam Qurtubi, Ibn Kathir, Sheikh al-Sa'di, and Dr. Wahbah Zuhaili interpret this negligence as either skipping prayers, not praying on time, lacking sincerity, or praying lazily. They emphasize that prayer should be performed with earnestness and sincerity to draw closer to Allah. Hypocrites, who pray only to be seen by Khusyu' is included in the circumcision of hai'ah in the al-Syafie school. Meanwhile, the meaning of khusyu' is also the awareness of the heart towards all readings such as remembrance and prayer spoken by the tongue while watching and thinking about it, living its meaning and feeling that it is praying to Allah SWT.

Hadith "لو خشعت قلب هذا، لخشعت جوارحه"

Khusyuk with this understanding actually is a matter that must be during the prayer time and the prayer will be interrupted if negligence envelops the entire prayer from beginning to end. Based on: al-Fiqh al-Manhaji, 96

Therefore maintaining khusyu' in all parts of prayer is circumcision that will make prayer more perfect. This is based on a hadith from Uthman bin Affan RA: I heard the Prophet SAW say: "A Muslim when the time comes to pray fardhu, then he performs ablution perfectly khusyu' and prays perfectly, the prayer will cover the previous sins as long as he does not commit a major sin. And so on throughout the ages because of repeating the prayer every day." Muslim History (228)

However, In conclusion, the hadith above is too dhaif. However, this mufti website state that thay tend to the status of this hadith is very dhaif because in the sanad there is a narrator who is majhul. In addition, what is more correct is that the hadith is a word than Said bin al-Musayyib and not from the Prophet SAW the meaning is valid. This is because, the zahir is a guide to the inner. others and lack true devotion, are particularly condemned. The essence of the verse is a call for sincere, timely, and focused worship.

TIPS TO INCREASE KHUSHOO IN SALAH-SHAYKH HASAN ALI

There were two presentation from two groups about what we gained from amal and what we gained from patience (sabr)— presented by my group—. What I get from the first group was I understood the gift of practicing correct amal such as the forgiveness of Allah, being closer to Him, continuous rewards and the respect of others in the duniya.

The solemn (khusyuk) in prayer has many benefits, such as the benefit of being able to munasabah (reflect) on oneself. We are able to look at ourself if the life we lead in is right or false. Our decisions and our duty.

This one again can only be achieved if one knows what they are reciting, such as the Al-Fatihah. If you do not know what you are reciting, then how will you understand the solemness of the prayer?

Khusyuk in prayer is also a way to keep our ego in check. Who are we to be angry at Him? He have motives behind His every action which is beneficial to us in the long run. As slaves, why must we be angry at our owner?

This is because, fasting is an obligation for Muslims and it is necessary to do it will be rewarded.

However, the greatest benefit of fasting is patience. Patience in fasting is not just about refraining from hunger and thirst, but fasting also means refraining from doing something evil.

INTENTION

The Quran and Hadith emphasize the importance of having pure intentions and actions in all aspects of life. The hadith stresses that deeds are to be judged only by intentions, suggesting that the intentions behind actions are just as important, if not more so, than the actions themselves. This hadith also reminds us that true ibadah is not limited to the traditional religious practices like prayer and fasting, but can encompass all aspects of life, as long as they are done with sincere intention and in accordance with Islamic principles.

Amal (Practice), Sabr (Patience) and Khusyuk in Prayer (Continuation).

There were 2 presentations done in class: one was about what we gained from amal and another was about what we gained from patience. What I understood from the first group's presentation was that Amal is all about intentions towards pleasing our Creator. In short, action taken earnestly for the purpose of fulfilling religious obligations. When we practice the proper and correct amal, we can gain so many benefits. Some stated by the group include closeness to Allah, respect from others, forgiveness from Allah and continuous rewards. It was all supported by a Quran verse (18:30).

Sister Sara shared about the benefits of Khusyuk in Prayer. Some of them being reflectiveness, clarity and humbleness. I believe that it is with true khusyuk in our prayer that we can reap the benefits of Prayer. When we understand what is being said in prayer that we can truly understand and implement Islam into our lives.

Every action is based on intention. Good intentions, will lead to reward and be counted as 'ibadah'. If the good intention continues with action, then the good will be doubled for that person. Therefore, worship is not limited to prayer, remembrance and fasting only. Every act that is fundamentally good is considered worship.

As it is, the best intentions if not accompanied by manners are useless. The most importante 'adab' is to the creator. As a servant who only rides in His place, it is not worthy for us to feel high (the best) because that is a quality that is only worthy of Him.

But what the thing they ignore is the difference between this two types of people in the eyes of God.

Sheikh Hasan Ali also ordered that in order to be devout in prayer, we should separate the world starting from before the call to prayer is chanted so that we enter into the 'bi'ah' that leads to devoutness.

The Benefits of Fasting

Physically

Fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan is not just a holy duty for Muslims, but it is also very good for EVERYONE'S health in many ways. Fasting has become a popular way to stay young, fit, and healthy. Just to name a few physical benefits:

Detoxifying

Increased Metabolism

Weight Loss

Better Immunity Systems

Controlled Blood Pressure

Improved Cardiovascular Health

Mentally

It's also been shown that fasting can help balance the mind and lower mental stress. People who fast also say that it makes the mind stronger, helps with focus, and clears the mind. This is mostly because they eat fewer calories, sugar, and salt. When you fast, your blood contains more endorphins, which make you feel good and improve your mental health. The overall benefits of fasting are about the same on the brain as the effects of exercise.

Spiritually

Many people wonder what the point of Ramadan and fasting is, and in Islam, the answer is very clear. Fasting during Ramadan is more than just not eating or drinking. It is a path that changes people's lives and helps them have more Taqwa (God-conscious). The Holy Qur'an says, “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous” (Qur’an 2:183). This verse makes it clear that fasting is a way to improve your morals and mental health. Muslims try to improve their relationship with Allah (SWT) and become more aware of His presence in their lives by giving up things they want in this world.

Fasting in Islam is good for your body, mind, and soul. Physically, it helps with weight management, and improves heart health. Mentally, it improves the relationship with food and increases gratitude. By experiencing hunger and thirst, individuals gain a greater appreciation for food, leading to more mindful eating habits and healthier dietary choices. Fasting in Islam helps us feel hunger and thirst, like poor people do. This helps us understand their struggles better and encourages us to help them more. Spiritually, fasting enhances piety, offers protection from Hellfire, and leads to rewards in Paradise. Muslims are encouraged to fast not only during Ramadan but also on specific days such as Mondays, Thursdays, and during the month of Sha'ban.

Zakat in Islam is more than just giving money; it's about purifying your wealth and soul, showing unity among believers, and getting closer to Allah. By giving Zakat, Muslims show their love for each other and fulfill their duty to their community and to Allah. It's a way to seek forgiveness and earn blessings, making it an essential part of a Muslim's faith and practice.

Hajj and Umrah, the sacred pilgrimages in Islam, offer believers numerous benefits. They provide a chance for spiritual cleansing and forgiveness of sins, strengthening one's faith and commitment to Islam. These pilgrimages also foster unity and brotherhood among Muslims worldwide. Moreover, they promise immense rewards from Allah, bringing believers closer to attaining Paradise. Through the challenges and rituals of Hajj and Umrah, believers also learn the valuable lesson of patience (sabr).

Tawadu' in Islam, brings many benefits. It helps people find peace inside, build better relationships, and treat everyone equally. When Muslims are humble, they show respect and kindness to others, no matter who they are. This makes communities stronger and more peaceful. Also, humility reminds believers that they're not perfect and that they need Allah's help. So, practicing humility helps Muslims grow spiritually and become closer to Allah.

Week 6: Sedekah vs Zakat, the Benefits of Being Humble, and Hajj and Umrah

Sedekah vs Zakat

Although almost the same, there is an inherent difference about the two. For one, a Muslim can donate to both Muslims and non-Muslims, but Muslims are only allowed to allocate zakat for Muslims only. Secondly, sedekah is sunat while zakat is wajib. Lastly, sedekah is a donation, while zakat acts similarly to tax, hence it is better for the economy as a whole because it contributes to the well fare of the ummah.

Benefits of being Humble

There are three aspects to look at— physical, emotional and spiritual. Physically, being humble helps to calm the heart, thus contributing to your overall health. Emotionally, it helps reduce your stress as you are never angry or prideful over something, and lastly spiritually, it helps you to reflect your place in the eyes of Allah SWT and helps you to be a better version of yourself.

Hajj and Umrah

Hajj and Umrah are the two most sought after opportunity for every Muslims. While umrah is indeed the easier version of the two, it also has almost the same set of challenges that Hajj has. The ability to control your spending and save enough money to visit Mekah, the sabr required dealing with the process, the exhaustion of walking and travelling and many more. While it is true that Hajj is seen as the more "mulia" out of the two, ultimately the purpose of it is the same, being able to dedicate yourself to your Creator and being humble enough to know your place in the world.

At the beginning of class, we discussed the differences between Sadaqah and Zakat. While both Zakat and Sadaqah involve the act charitable giving, Zakat is an obligation to all 'able' Muslims and has specific parameters, like a 2.5% wealth tax for the needy. However, Sadaqah is a voluntary act and allows you to choose the method, mode and action of charity. You could either give money, food, labor, time and so much more.

Afterwards, we had a group present about the 'Benefits of Being Humble.' The group defined it as one's ability to be aware of their nothingness before Allah SWT. This means that we acknowledge ourselves as Allah's slaves. There was also an explanation on the types of humility:

Humility before Allah

Humility before the Prophets

Humble with our fellow brothers and sisters

Then the benefits of humility was discussed:

Physically: Healthy lifestyle

Mental: Stable emotions, manage stress

Spiritual: Closer to Allah, become a better person

Besides this, we discussed actions that we can take to increase humility in ourselves:

Accept and listen to advice

Do not belittle others

Do not punish easily

In conclusion, we can see the having humility and being humble brings many benefits to us individually and as an ummah. It is a characteristic that we all need to strive towards.

At the end of class, we discussed the difference between 2 sacred pilgrimages, Umrah and Hajj. The biggest difference would be that Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. This does not mean Umrah is less important but the distinction is clear. While Umrah is optional, Hajj is made mandatory to those Muslims who are able to complete it (financially stable, enough time, good health, etc). Umrah can be completed in a single day whereas Hajj requires five days to complete it. Umrah can be conducted whenever one pleases but Hajj is exclusively performed on the designated days of Dhul Hijjah.

The presenter give a lot of inputs such as being humble to ourselves and society.

1) Tawadu' to people - When we have to behave kind and humble towards other people as they might help us in the future.

2) Tawadu' to Allah - We must obey Allah's instructions , love and respect Him as a god.

3) Tawadu' with ourselves - We must not be an ignorant person as it is considered rude.

To conclude, I gained a lot of new benefits of being humble like showing kindness to people would makes my heart lighter, became more sincere in doing my actions and build relationships with other people honestly.

Benefits of Hajj & Umrah - I recognized how these two Ibadah could actually enhanced me with a lot of patience, sacrifice (time & money) and build Taqwa in every Muslim's soul. Man's love of lucre is destroyed and he is freed from the chains and the scourge of capitalism by the regular and proper payment of Zakat.

Purifying our wealth;

After the zakat part has been paid, the remaining amount does, in fact, become cleansed since it shields the money from ruin and loss. This is due to the fact that everyone has some belongings among the rich.

Sustaining and help poor;

Supporting and feeding the country's impoverished. This allows for the prompt and appropriate assistance of the impoverished and disadvantaged. The fundamental tenet of Zakat is compassion for humanity and aiding the underprivileged, as stated in the teaching of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Zakat should be taken from the rich and given to the poor."

Ensure economic prosperity;

The way to improve social circumstances and boost national economies is through zakat. This makes perfect sense because, when the underprivileged and destitute receive financial support during their trials and tribulations, they naturally strive to stand on their own two feet, strive toward independence, and travel down the path to success and prosperity.

Hajj and Umrah are both sacred pilgrimages in Islam, but they differ in their rituals, timing, and level of obligation. Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is an obligatory pilgrimage for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake it at least once in their lifetime. Umrah is a voluntary pilgrimage that can be performed at any time of the year not like Hajj.

Performing Hajj or Umrah is believed to cleanse one's soul of sins and impurities, providing an opportunity for spiritual renewal and purification. When Muslims perform Hajj or Umrah, they engage in a series of rituals involve acts of worship, devotion, and obedience to Allah. Sacrificing money, time, and family to perform Hajj or Umrah is a significant aspect of the pilgrimage experience for many Muslims.

Sacrifice in terms of :

1- Financial

Performing Hajj or Umrah often requires a significant financial investment, including expenses for travel, accommodation, transportation, and other associated costs. Many pilgrims save money for years or make financial sacrifices to afford it. This act of giving up wealth demonstrates a commitment to prioritizing spiritual fulfillment over material wealth and reflects the importance of the pilgrimage in their lives.

2- Time

Pilgrims may need to take time off from work or other responsibilities, disrupting their daily routines and commitments because most of the time Hajj and Umrah involve a considerable amount of time, ranging from several days to weeks, depending on the pilgrimage and the circumstances. By dedicating their time to the pilgrimage, pilgrims demonstrate their willingness to prioritize spiritual pursuits and invest in their relationship with Allah.

3- Family

Leaving behind family and loved ones to perform Hajj or Umrah can be emotionally challenging for many pilgrims. It may involve temporary separation from spouses, children, parents, and other family members. However, this sacrifice is viewed as an opportunity for individual spiritual growth and a means of seeking Allah's pleasure. Despite the temporary separation, the support and encouragement of family members often play a crucial role in facilitating the pilgrimage journey.

Benefits of Hajj and Umrah

The Hajj pilgrimage is an unforgettable religious experience. Hajj is Islam's fifth pillar, and all Muslim adults who are physically and financially competent to travel must participate. One of the benefits of Hajj is that it teaches you patience and how to stay strong in the face of temptation or exhaustion. Furthermore, Hajj cleanses the soul, instilling purity, optimism, and rejuvenation. Strengthening individual faith also strengthens the oneness of all Muslims. Moreover, the Ihram attire reduces the distinctions between Muslims of various ethnicities and social strata. The Hajj, by gathering so many Muslims in one area at the same time, improves communication and strengthens shared identity. Unlike Hajj, Umrah can be undertaken at any time of year, making it both easy and significant. Umrah entails devoting our time and money to Allah in exchange for increased Rizq (sustenance) and financial blessings. Consequently, going there with noble intentions would make us feel more connected to Allah SWT at each stage of our pilgrimage.

What I understand is that Hajj and Umrah are special journeys in Islam, each with its own ways and importance. Hajj is a must-do for Muslims who can physically and financially afford it, while Umrah is optional and can be done at any time. Both trips help cleanse the soul and reconnect with Allah through prayers and obedience.

During Hajj or Umrah, Muslims make big sacrifices, like spending money, taking time off, and being away from family. These sacrifices show how much they value their spiritual growth over other things. The blessings of these trips include feeling more patient, ready for challenges, and loving Allah more, which brings peace inside and a desire to do good.

To sum up, Hajj and Umrah are important experiences that make faith stronger and bring Muslims closer to Allah. They remind us to focus on what's truly important in life and to be obedient to Allah's teachings.

Zakat:

Paying zakat as known by all Muslims can purify property. Because in zakat it is throwing away everything that is bad on our property. For example, A gardener has a garden. So, to ensure that his garden is healthy and fresh, the farmer must remove all elements that can disfigure his garden such as dry or dead leaves to purify his garden. Next, zakat can also increase wealth. In addition, we can draw closer to God through this pious practice and at the same time purify our sins. This is because zakat is a form of worship for the people of Muhammad. Whoever does worship will be rewarded.

One of the importance of paying zakat is to purify property. As Muslims, we know that the sustenance we get is not from us but from God and we do not refuse to pay zakat on the basis of not wanting to share sustenance with other.

🤍 HAJJ AND UMRAH

in short, In short, it can be concluded that Hajj and Umrah also provide many benefits to those who perform it. For example, before going to fulfill it, the person needs to take care of his behavior and speech from where he is.The challenge also begins before the person goes to Hajj and Umrah. God wants to test a person's sincerity.

Hajj:

Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam that all Muslims must perform. For those who have died, it is obligatory for the heirs to replace them. People who perform Hajj should avoid themselves from saying bad things. So it is proven that Hajj indirectly teaches people to be patient. Next, it can definitely bring a servant closer to his god because it is worship. Finally, as we know, it is able to remove the sins of a servant. Through the Hajj, people will really try to get a Mabrur Hajj, so they will worship diligently and never stop asking for forgiveness.

Zakat is like a must-do aka wajib; it's one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Every year, Muslims give around 2.5% of their savings to help those in need. It's a way to clean up your wealth and make sure everyone gets a fair share.

On the other hand, Sadaqah is totally voluntary and super flexible. You can give money, food, or even just a smile any time you want! It’s all about showing kindness and generosity whenever you feel like it, and getting free pahala in return! While Zakat has set rules, Sadaqah is all about spreading good vibes and helping others continuously.
