In Chinese philosophy and practices such as Feng Shui, squares represent the element of earth and balance. I was interested in exploring the square in connection to the earth and nature. Simultaneously, I explored the disconnect and unbalance that humans have with nature, as the world slowly evolves to become digitised and technology revolving. 
I traveled across the globe virtually through google earth, exploring digital and glitching versions of earthly landscapes. I then took screenshots and manipulated the images to over-dramatise the glitches. This emphasised the odd intersection of the natural world and the digital world. After manipulating the image beyond recognition, I used fragments of the glitched image to recreate fictitious landscapes. I took a futuristic approach by coming up with a (hypothetical) virtual botanical garden. The botanical garden will exist online, as a website where I will display a collection of digital plants. In this website I'm also thinking of including images of landscapes which will hopefully be available through virtual reality. The plant images were created by manipulating photos of real plants and flowers. I also experimented with other analogue techniques such as scanning.
