Murakami may be trying to show that while society may believe that women have been given so much more freedom in terms of power and gender roles, this is not, in fact, true. Today women are still viewed with a sort of bias and level of expectation. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think it was intentional because the female characters seem to be exaggerated forms of popular stereotypes of women (housewife, angsty teen, mother) but they eventually break their mold (cheating, getting a job, becoming a fashion designer). I think this is to satirize the roles women are typically subjugated to and show that they are capable of more. </div>]]></description>
