This book promotes imagination. This book gives a different situation for each page, and says “You can think of (situation)”.  It gives random, ridiculous things that happen.  The pictures are great because they all involve these creatures, lots of colors, and interesting settings.  I think children would love this book because it really allows them to use their imagination.  I think it is almost better to read from a child’s point of view than an adults, because children will not think it is as weird and out there. Children will probably love the creativity and situations in this made up world in the novel.  The book tells kids to think up things, no matter how ridiculous they may seem.  It also, in some parts, calls them to ask questions and to wonder about things.  It wants kids to be curious for information. All of these messages are great for kids!

This book is based on a real story about a girl, Dorthy, who loved to read and wanted to be a librarian.  She went to college in hopes of being one, but then she got married and moved to the mountains of North Carolina.  The town did not have a library, so the community decided she would drive a bookmobile and be the librarian.  She spread the joy of reading to the people in the community and inspired kids to see the world and follow their dreams.  In the end, the community built her a building for her library.  She grows up and receives letters from the kids, who are now adults, thanking her inspiring them.  The books illustrations were beautiful in this book.  They were realistic, but looked like watercolors.  The theme of this book can be interpreted in multiple ways.  The main theme or message I got from this book is the importance of having an imagination and creativity. However, there were also messages about the importance of reading, sharing, inspiring others, and service to others.
