Let me Introduce Myself

Hi! My name is Sophie, and I am 19 years old from Geraldton, Western Australia and completing this course online! I am a second year student studying full-time while working most days. Unsurprisingly, I am a huge book nerd and history buff. I've been encouraged to read and write my whole life and my interest in history stemmed from digging through my gran's drawers and finding old keepsakes from her relatives and asking her questions about them and her life when she was young.

I love music to the point I've fronted two bands, I absolutely love AFL (Go Freo!) and I love playing video games with some favourites being the Life is Strange series, Keywe, Baldur's Gate 3 and Stardew Valley. I am also a huge motorsports fan with my family being a bunch of Speedway racers. Instead of racing myself, I do volunteer work around the speedway and am the official videographer for our racing team.

When it comes to technology, I think I'm pretty savvy as I'm always the person in the family to come to if some application isn't working, however I am very open to finding new resources to use and adapt in my teaching and learning style. Having graduated high school in 2023, I still have a good idea of how some of these resources worked from a student aspect but would like to see the technicalities from the other side of things. I'm hoping this unit can provide this for me.

I used this when I was in high school. It was such a good way to engage the students in the class, and making learning and revising a little less tedious on the teenage mind.

As history works heavily of times, dates and locations of events, it would be helpful for students to be able to create timelines for themselves to organise events and work collaboratively to visualise the period being studied.

Quizlet is excellent for creating flashcards for students to test themselves on. There are also small games, puzzles and a small test for students to check understanding, but also allowing for them to take off the stress of too much information presented in the same way.
