I choose Hawaii as a destination as it’s one of the states I would love to visit but not sure I would ever as it takes so long to get to the destination. However, Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head State Monument, Oahu are one of the best places to visit in Hawaii. Waikiki has a beautiful stretch of oceanfront beach, it is Hawaii's biggest tourist attraction. Also, you can visit the national parks in Hawaii which they have two of the most active volcanoes in the world. Kilauea is the most active volcano in the world, and Mauna Loa is the largest shield volcano in the world. Over one million visitors come to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park every year.Hawaii is known for its 750 miles of spotless coastline dotted with volcanoes, its ancient culture that includes icons like the hula dance and luaus, as well as for its rich cuisine that gave us poke bowlsThe best thing is you visit Hawaii anytime during the year as it has 365 days of amazing weather all year round! Sustainable tourism is tourism that minimizes the costs and maximizes the benefits of tourism for natural environments and local communities and can be carried out indefinitely without harming the resources on which it depends. One example of sustainable tourism is the Six Senses Fiji resort, which is powered solely on solar power, recycles rainwater, runs on a low-waste model, and uses handiwork such as furnishings and artwork created by local villagers. Some factors that may promote or hinder sustainable tourism development in the selected tourism destinations are natural resources; planning; economic concerns; educational needs; and awareness of tourism. And lastly, Angel Falls is a waterfall in Venezuela. It is the world's tallest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 metres and a plunge of 807 m. The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyán-tepui mountain in the Canaima National Park. I chose this destination as it would be so awesome to check out this waterfall in this beautiful country.

Why did we choose these destinations? (Maria)

We chose San Diego, California because it is one of those destinations in the United States that is known for their clear wavy beaches especially for surfers and their warm weather. Lets not to forget to mention the beautiful palm trees and entertainment such as, the san diego zoo, Kayaking, Seal tour, and many more water activities. Another reason we chose San Diego is because they are also known for beautiful hiking trails that offer spectacular views. We chose to look into the southern part of Venezuela Bolivar state. They are known fo,r their highest waterfall which has been a huge success in the tourism industry. They also have a National park called Canaima.

List and Compare some of the features of the selected destinations?(Maria)

Some of the known and features that San Diego, California is known for are their warm comfortable weather, perfect beaches, family attractions which are known as the world-famous San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park, SeaWorld San Diego and LEGOLAND California. Some of the known features in Bolivar, Venezuela are Canaima National Park, home of towering Angel Falls & massive mesas. Both of these destinations have great family attractions, national parks and mountain attractions.

How are the goals directly or indirectly related to tourism development in the selected destinations?(Maria)

Some of the ways that Bolivar is looking to ensure and develop their tourism destinations according to world data info, “ Is by international comparability, the data for some years or countries were manually researched and corrected if they obviously included visitors without overnight stays. In these cases, the data were taken from the official communications of the respective national tourism authorities.” California, on the other hand is trying to to be more sustainable as mentioned below new programs that are based on the “three pillars” of Sustainable Tourism: being economically feasible, environmentally sound and socially/culturally equitable.

What is the concept of sustainable tourism?(Brittany)

The concept of sustainable tourism in California is that it is developing a new set of programs that are known as the “ Three Pillars”. The three pillars are becoming economically feasible, environmentally sound and socially and culturally equipped. California is still an ongoing tourist state that continues to grow and sustainability is being maintained in places and different cultures so visitors can enjoy their experience. California also came up with a Tourism Sustainability Plan which includes travelers to enhance their experience, respect the history and culture, contribute and give to help stable employment and the lives of the people who live there, and to guarantee natural resources. The concept of sustainable tourism in Venezuela is to create jobs, enjoy vacation time, and to promote the perception of cultures and environment.

List some examples of the negative impacts of tourism development in the selected tourism destinations(Brittany)

The negative impacts of tourism development in California are climate change, jobs for the future, illegal trade in wildlife and sustainability reporting which have been recognized by the World Travel and Tourism Council. The negative impacts of tourism in Venezuela are the currency exchange, roads deteriorating and living conditions and lack of resources such as gas, medicine and water, the crime level, and the hold of citizen insecurity.

On the other hand, Angel Falls in Venezuela was chosen as it is one of the most visited and most iconic destinations in Venezuela. It is undoubtedly an expensive destination but it is definitely worth visiting.

2) List and compare some features of the selected destinations.

- Angel jump:

1. Illustrate your points with examples.

We believe that the two tourist destinations can share the same enjoyment of freedom to live their lives that they value so much, each one has its own landscape, the difference is that Angel Falls is a single spectacular landscape and in Hawaii you can find many landscapes for the same relaxation and observe one of the wonders of the world.

4) What is the concept of sustainable tourism?

The World Tourism Organization considers that the most important elements to be able to develop tourism is the optimal use of environmental resources. This requires maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to conserve biodiversity and natural resources. This is how sustainable tourism follows the principles of sustainability, minimizing the impact on the environment and local culture, while contributing to generating income and employment for the local population.

5) What are the factors that may promote or hinder sustainable tourism development in the selected tourism destinations?

Both destinations have the same kind of problems that are hindering sustainable tourism development. One of these problems is air travel. Being that both of these destinations are internationally known, dozens of flights come in and out of them daily. Planes take and therefore burn a lot of fuel into the environment. Another problem contributing the hindering of sustainable tourism development is sunscreens. Both places are hot and require guests to wear sunscreen. However, most sunscreens have poisonous chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate. When travelers are wearing these sunscreens and either swim in the beach or touch the waterfalls, they enter the water flow and harm aquatic creatures and damage coral reefs. One thing that Hawaii does to promote sustainable tourism development is trying to lighten the cargo load on flights in order to lessen fuel emission. Hotels are also giving our free sunscreens to all guests that do not include the above harmful chemicals.

Why do you choose these two destinations?

We choose these destinations because for us they are the biggest tourist places in each country

List and compare some features of the selected destinations

Margarita Island dominates the economic life of the state and contains most of the population. The island has beautiful beaches, mountains, tropical weather, and the port of the island guamache is the second most important port in Venezuela, the island also has a lot of family activities that tourists can do such as visit the beaches, go to waterparks, go to fort la Galera and visit the nearby island too.

New York is a city of diversity and dynamism. It is also a city of politics, economy, and culture. It is even described as the economic and cultural capital of the world, has the third largest port in America, and has a lot of family activities to do such as going to central park, Broadway, and the statue of liberty

Both of these destinations have really important ports, an important economic life, and a lot of family activities that tourists can do

.

How are the goals directly or indirectly related to tourism development in the selected tourism destinations? Illustrate your points with examples.

New York City known as “The city that never sleeps”, is one of the most famous cities in the world to tourists, thanks to its diverse culture, high energy and numerous entertainment options. The city is continuously working to improve the tourism industry by developing and marketing different areas and services of the city. Recently, New York City is working on the development, infrastructure and safety of the less-known neighborhoods, to lead the city away from seasonal tourism and make it a year round attraction for visitors.

Margarita Island is also working on developing their hospitality industry in order to attract more tourists. Even though the west side of the island is still underdeveloped, you can find beautiful beaches located in that part of the island. Also, tourists can get a more real experience of the culture and the place, and connect with the friendly locals.

What is the concept of sustainable tourism?

This consists of tourism that respects the ecosystem, which has a minimal impact on the environment and its cultural environment, including the creation of jobs and income for the local population, improving its economy. The keys to achieving this would be:

· The optimization of environmental resources: conserving natural resources and taking care of biological diversity, it is possible that there may be tourism

· The authenticity of the local culture: to understand a place is its people, the traditional values of the host community, its culture, the architecture

· The distribution of wealth: One of its objectives is to generate stable employment opportunities, obtain income and social services, and reduce poverty in local communities.

What are the factors that may promote or hinder sustainable tourism development in the selected tourism destinations?

Margarita Island:

Margarita Island has some of the most beautiful beaches in Venezuela and that is why the construction of Eco-friendly Hotels should be promoted and it should be established that the hotels near the beaches have good environmental management, and the beaches should have protocols for waste collection to not generate negative impacts on the environment. Fishing must be regulated to preserve biodiversity.

This Island preserves historic places from the colonial era such as the Santa Rosa Fortress and the Fortín de la Libertad, and has the best marine museum in the country. These has made Margarita Island part of the destinations for cruise ships sailing in the Caribbean.

However, much of the progress in increasing sustainable tourism in Margarita was affected by the pandemic caused by COVID-19 in 2020, and since then attempts have been made to reactivate tourism in the Island, but the economic crisis that Venezuela has been going through for several years makes it difficult to create projects that promote sustainable tourism in Margarita, and there is not much environmental education in the population.

New York:

Although it is one of the cities with the most asphalt on the planet, it is also one of the most ecological.

More and more environmental protection plans are being promoted in the city, such as the bicycle rental program to promote their use or the construction of bicycle lanes to promote this transport. This plan, known as the Manhattan Greenway, allows you to cycle around 200 km that go around the entire island, a more than fun idea for sustainable tourism.

example: the 100 hectares that make up the New York Botanical Gardens, the largest and most well-known botanical park in the city, a spectacular natural environment to which you can dedicate a whole day.

1.We chose Isla La Tortuga because it is a paradise with crystal clear waters, located in the south of the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Venezuela. It is almost uninhabited, but it offers great natural benefits of waters with different shades of blue, which make the destination a paradise of calm and crystalline waters.

Tourism has taken a certain boom on the island due to the great attraction of natural beauties; so sailboats, yachts and sports boats come to its beaches to enjoy it. In this way, it is perceived that Isla La Tortuga is positioning itself as a new tourist product, which the Venezuelan government has plans to develop. Currently, tourism occurs without any physical structure, categorizing this type of tourism in an adventurous way and putting ecotourism into practice for its development in a natural environment.

Without a doubt, this travel experience enriches the being, because knowing new destinations and having the privilege of being in almost virgin areas enjoying wonderful natural environments such as Isla La Tortuga, motivates you to explore new journeys, new horizons to live and so on. expand our range of destinations that Venezuela has

On the other hand, we chose Busch Garden in Tampa Florida, which is associated with fun on roller coasters. However, it is interesting to see how many animals from different regions of the world come together in this Floridian corner. As you ride the roller coasters, you can see down to where the rhinos, giraffes, and other wildlife are. You can also go on a safari, watch 4D movies, feed some animals, ride different roller coasters, and eat at one of their different themed restaurants.

2.The Bush Garden park, located in Tampa Florida, has a number of roller coasters and various mechanical attractions, such as the SheiKra roller coaster, in turn also performs shows for the general public from circuses to a celebration with fireworks. They have a safari and animal experiences. It is a space that lends itself to a large number of people visiting its facilities.

The island of the turtle, on the other hand, is in the South of the Caribbean Sea in Venezuela, an island that has crystal clear waters where not many inhabitants reside. Several of the people who are there are fishermen who have established their homes and their jobs on the island. The island is formed by different mangroves, reefs, among others.

These two tourist areas have very different natures, Bush Garden was created, so to speak, by labor since it is a park with installations while the Island is part of nature. The attractiveness of each destination has unique qualities that the other does not have but they attract the attention of tourists.

These goals relate to tourism development because it can allow a person to understand where they are going and what to expect such as the daily activities that they can do while tour whether that be hiking, mountaineering, or scuba diving. It can give a person an insight on what to look forward to on vacation. With the amusement park it can allow people to understand what fun there is to do there and it can get them excited.

4.The concept of sustainable tourism is to minimize cost as much as possible ,while also trying to maximize the experience of tourism for others. Sustainable tourism respects locals and their culture and tries not to damage the environment as much as other acts of tourism might. Environment, social, and economical are the 3 big factors to look for when trying to be sustainable.

5. In the case of the Isla La Tortuga National Park located in Venezuela, although it is recognized as a protected area by the government institutions of the country, which enjoy special privileges for its preservation, at present, due monitoring is not carried out, which has led to construction of buildings in the south of the island that has generated a significant negative impact on the ecosystem that ranges from the destruction of the habitat of the species in the area, as well as the elimination of the marine fauna and flora that characterizes this tourist destination. The lack of supervision and regulation of construction activities in the area for accommodation or sale purposes is a factor that hinders the full development of sustainable tourism in this tourist destination and in others around the world.

On the other hand, a factor that is key to promoting and guaranteeing the development of tourism in both destinations are awareness campaigns around responsibility as consumers and tourists when traveling, encouraging practices to minimize the negative impact that can be generated when visiting the destinations. places, everything is based on creating that thought in people to care for ecosystems not only near our homes but in places we visit, regulating behavior and also raising awareness in new generations without the need for coercive measures.

In the particular case of Busch Gardens located in the city of Tampa Bay in the United States, an important factor is its dedication to caring for animal species in critical danger of extinction at the same time that they are exhibited to the public and has set the standard until becoming in one of the best zoos in the country. The key is to stand out for its practices for the care of these threatened species and the execution of programs for the conservation of animal species that can be a key factor to be considered by other zoos around the world to not only help preserve these species, but they can serve as places of interest for all public where awareness is promoted in society, thus promoting a more sustainable tourism by not seeing animals as simple objects of entertainment but as living beings that matter and deserve to be cared for.

Every member of the group each chose a question to complete.

The attractiveness of each destination has unique qualities that the other does not have but they attract the attention of tourists

3.These goals relate to tourism development because it can allow a person to understand where they are going and what to expect such as the daily activities that they can do while tour whether that be hiking, mountaineering, or scuba diving.

Each member chose a question to answer and complete

Venezuela: Morrocoy National Park - White sand beaches, known for hiking, birdwatching or boating to the keys.

US: Acadia National Park - One of the top 10 most visited national parks in the US, on the coast of Maine known for hiking, wildlife watching and camping.

Both are located along a beautiful shoreline, and surrounded by a thriving local business culture. Tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of the coasts while supporting the local communities where they visit.

Morrocoy National Park’s goals are to preserve the ecosystem and protect the wildlife that live within the premises. Home to a large variety of endangered birds and other animals native to the park, tourism is conducted with the preservation and appreciation of this in mind. In 2020, there was an oil spill that affected the beaches of Morrocoy National Park. This united the local community to call for more climate action and precaution to be taken by government officials as well as large refineries and corporations. This national park is a place for people to come and appreciate nature and support it's local community within the park.

Arcadia national parks goals are to protect the wildlife and promote scientific research at the park. They use these goals to educated visitors when they come to the park. This allows tourists to have an inside look to what happens at the park. For example they run programs for the youth to come and be educated about the eco system at the park. They also use the scientific research to improve the ecosystems at the park.

Sustainable tourism means finding ways to protect the environment and economics of tourist attractions. By doing this you can increase the benefits of the tourist's trips and the community in which they are visiting.

A factor that could hinder sustainable tourism is if global warming changes the environments of the parks drastically. Global warming wont effect the parks immediately but over time is can change the wildlife. This would cause people to not want to visit the parks an longer. A simple way to fix this is be as eco friendly as possible when visiting the parks. This helps wildlife thrive and the planet not heat up so fast. Another factor that can hinder sustainable tourism is not having enough workers to up keep the parks. This can cause people to not have a good time while visiting the park and decided not to return. That would then effect the economic growth of the park. One way to promote sustainable tourism is to always respect the land and community you are visiting. Follow their rules, customs, and culture.

Why do you choose these two destinations?

We chose Tucacas, Venezuela, because it attracts both locals and foreigners alike to its pristine Caribbean waters. It is a small town on the northern coast which sees most of its profits off tourism. Despite the growing demand to create more jobs, there is a need for investment in the area to attract larger scaled population of travelers.

List and compare some features of the selected destinations.

Miami:
- City
- Full scale entertainment and nightlife
- Sports arenas, concert venues, large scaled clubs
- Dining
- Water sports
- Vast diversity

Tucacas:
- Small town
- Small entertainment scale
- No clubs, people mostly party on boats/yachts
- No financial center

Although the two are very different in terms of scale, what the two similarly share is the warm weather and the beaches.

How are the goals directly or indirectly related to tourism development in the selected tourism destinations?

Miami's primary focus is entertainment. It works to bring in large crowds which they attract through nightlife entertainment (clubs/bars), sports events, music festivals, fine dining, etc. It uses the blue waters and warm weather to their advantage, to incentivize and convince tourists to pour into paradise. Tucacos' tourism is developing at a different pace. There are very limited places where one can stay in terms of hotels, and there are no resorts nor clubs. Yet, the beautiful views and clear blue waters have proven that it is a place destined with potential when and if more investment rushes in.

What is the concept of sustainable tourism?

The goal of sustainable tourism is to maximize the profits/living of localities while limiting the destruction of natural habitats and wildlife.

What are the factors that may promote or hinder sustainable tourism development in the selected tourism destinations?

There are many factors that may hinder sustainable tourism. In Miami in particular, the size of the city and the large influx of tourists complicates even the simplest of issues. There is an incredible amount of waste that is created due to mass entertainment production, hotels, and other corporations to accommodate vast amounts of people. These issues are very visible on South Beach, in terms of sanitation and its effect on the environment. The size of the population and Florida State regulations play a significant role in the protection of the environment and local communities which see more and more losses to larger businesses. Although there is much that can hinder the city of Miami, if done appropriately the state can allocate funds through money it sees the city profit to put towards sustainable means of tourism.

Tucacos is in the best position to create and develop forms of sustainability due to the size of its current tourism at the moment. It being in a small town which is still pretty unknown to the rest of the world puts it at an advantage to organize and protect its beaches, habitat, and wildlife. Like many places, were Tucacos turn into a destination hob it could lose habitat to investors trying to move into developing hotels and resorts. While new investment would bring in an influx of business, jobs, and money for the locals, it would decrease the ability for Venezuelan citizens partake in vacations within this district due to the normality in price increases that come with hotspot destinations. It would become more exclusive for those of the country, which currently have to save up for several years making minimum wage to afford a vacation at the current rates. Locals could potentially face the same consequences seen in destinations like Mexico, Jamaica, Aruba, and other places that share sought after Caribbean waters.

Why do you choose these two destinations?

We chose these destinations because they are both national parks. They both include a variety of activities such as hiking. We also chose both locations because it will allow us to compare and contrast both parks since they are in a similar tourism category. Both locations also offer a variety of tourist activities and are well known. Also, both destinations offer beautiful geographic features.

List and compare some features of the selected destinations.

Our destinations have different forms of accessibility. Canaima is located in a tropical rainforest whereas the Grand Canyon is located in the desert. Both places have unique geographical features. For Canaima, it is home to the Pemones. For the Grand Canyon, they also are home to a group of Native Americans. Tourists visit both attractions for the unique and beautiful nature and geographical features. Both are also home to various wildlife.

How are the goals directly or indirectly related to tourism development in the selected tourism destinations? Illustrate your points with examples.

For Canaima, they have various hotels (Ecohotels)and resorts to increase the number of tourists coming. This is implemented so there is no disruption to the environment. They want to make sure that the park and its species are protected. The hotels surrounding the park make sure of this. Tourism development defines the state of Arizona. Arizona is benefited from tourism development and is built around it. For Canaima, indigenous people also may financially benefit from the tourism of the park and also help protect it.

For the Grand Canyon, they have continued to implement rules to protect the natural canyon. This includes limitations of people as well as restrictions to certain areas. For Canaima, it is similar in the sense that certain areas of Canaima are being restricted for protection. For Canaima, these restrictions are due to the destruction of plant species. Canaima unlike the Grand Canyon is home to many unique species.

What is the concept of sustainable tourism?

Sustainable tourism consists of taking into account the environment, natives, economy, and socio-culture. It is important to take into the current and future tourist locations.

What are the factors that may promote or hinder sustainable tourism development in the selected tourism destinations?

Things that would hinder sustainable tourism for Canaima would include people trespassing and causing the destruction of plant species. Another thing that may hinder sustainable tourism in this location would be any shift in the economy as well as things that would affect tourism such as a pandemic. For example, the Covid-19 pandemic affected tourism in this park. This led to an influx of gold mining which ended up leading to some destruction of the environment in the area.

Things that would promote sustainable tourism would be an increase in protection of the park as well as making sure nothing is built inside the park but rather surrounding. For example, Canaima has built hotels surrounding the park but not in the park which does not disturb the environment of the park but also promotes tourism.

Things that would hinder sustainable tourism development in the Grand Canyon would be the introduction of non-native plants and animals to the park which could damage various ecosystems in the environment. Another thing that could hinder it would be the increase of factories around that area that could continue to cause air pollution.

Things that would promote this would be to continue to implement green policies to protect the park and make it secure. Another thing would be to promote more environmentally friendly activities.

Coming from New Jersey where there is a lot of high way and city views, it would be great to travel somewhere where the scenery is quite opposite.

As it relates to features, big attraction are not only the water falls but also the bodies of water that allow for cool activities such as swimming or touring. Angel Falls has one of the highest Water Falls in fact!

I chose these two locations because they are both environmentally related, which interests me a lot. For Example, Los Roques is a small island that has a few hotels and a population of around 3,000. The beach makes it a destination for photographers, and divers and has activities such as snorkeling. The Grand Canyon also has a lot of beautiful scenery and activities for tourists such as horse-riding through the canyon, hiking, guided tours, and more.

Factors that effect Sustainable Tourism

There are a few factors that effect sustainable tourism.
1. To start, awareness of tourism in a specific area is high on the list.
- for example; Hawaii is well known as a vacation destination. With beautiful beaches, high end resort and family-friendly activities, many people look to travel to Hawaii as an oasis or even yearly vacation. Venezuela, just as beautiful, is place when many may not know about in terms of tourism and where to travel. Once researched, it is easy to see why one would travel.
2. Planning is another factor. Both of these destinations, no matter where you live, take time, money and planning efforts. Unless you are local to either location, it is hard to impromptu plan to travel to either, especially if you want the full experience as a tourist.
3. Education about the travel destination is another factor here. Angel Falls, though well known in Venezuela because it has one of the highest water falls, may not be a place many openly know about unless researched. Often times with tourism it's either someone who has the experience or someone who must plan ahead of time and know what to expect because they don't have that travel experience. Hawaii, though ideally should be planned, is a place the one can likely book and travel to one area and not feel the need to leave that area. This could be due to well known hotels or on site deals. That seems to be more geared towards the marketing part of tourism.

Many people visit during the summer and also because of recreational cannabis use is very popular in Nevada. It's like a club / casino for young adults and adults in a massive city.

Las Vegas Nevada vs Venezuela Caracas
Venezuela can be very strict in general certain things when it comes to fun in general. However nature and views are amazing in Venezuela so it all depends on the person who's touring these places. Caracas, being the capital of Venezuela has many historical landmarks and different attractions illustrating the city’s major historical figures and locations. However, compared to Las Vegas, it isn’t much of a great location to tour. Vegas on the other hand is known for its outstanding nightlife including nightclubs, party locations, bars and casinos.
