A high increase of mental health sparked after a war in Israel that broke out on October 7. This war killed more than 1,200 Israelis and took an estimated 240 people hostage. These emergency and disaster situations, such as war or terrorism, can result not only in loss of life or damage to property, but also with a devastating impact on the mental well-being of the victimized populations. This war has brought Israel to its worst Mental Health crisis ever.

This is so important because so many people were affected by this tragic event, and people that need mental help. People have been shaken up by this event. Everyone is dealing and was affected differently from the next but everyone was affected in someway This is why it is so important that they can get the help they need. Because this is something so hard to deal with.

This has impacted people in Israel and all around the world.

Israel: Not only is living in Israel stressful, with alarms going off, and knowing a bomb or rocket is in the air. But the effect on people whose family and friends are hostages, not knowing if they are alive or not waiting for them to come home. The people who were with people who were killed or taken and could not do anything to stop them. Or even the people who know someone who was killed or taken hostage. All of Israel's mental health was affected. The amount of stress, terror and sadness has become a great issue in israel.

Jews all around the World: Some people have close family and friends who were killed,taken hostage just in israel. No matter how close you, Israel and the people of Israel are family to Jews all around the world. This has affected every Jews all around the world.

Brief History Of Mental Heath in Israel

Israelis have struggled with mental health issues for many years. One main factor that contributed to the struggles of Israelis was the Holocaust, causing major depression and trauma. In addition to this, statistics have shown that in 2019, 20% of Israeli adolescents showed psychosomatic symptoms. These numbers went up to 30% in 2022, the pandemic causing this rise. It was also reported that a high rate of 46.3% of people in Israel experienced mental disorders. These are just a few examples of the ongoing history of mental health in Israel, being evident that this problem has not just grown because of the war, but has never gone away.

One Group/Organization That is Working to Solve This Issue in Canada

One Family Fund, an organization looking to overcome the Israeli terrors of the war, is raising money and awareness in Canada in order to combat the suffering in Israel. Moreover, our school CHAT raises money to help those in need in Israel, as well as UJA. We are all trying to help out as best as we can for those in Israel, whether it is sending money, care packages, letters, messages, or our prayers.
