I'll give you the sun is a realistic-fiction young adult novel. It is about a set of twins that live in California, named Jude and Noah. They are both smart and artistic, so their mom encourages them to apply for a private art high school. As they turn 13 their differences grow more an more apparent, as Jude is a beautiful outgoing girl getting herself into the popular crowd, and Noah is a reserved, shy and slightly awkward but talented artist. To make things worse, a new kid named Brian has moved in for the summer and is about to make things a lot more complicated.

Main Points!!

I'll give you the sun is definitely one of my favorite books I have ever read. If I were to point out three main points from this book it is that destiny is real (just sometimes not what you want), its okay to just be who you are, and that sometimes things arent exactly what you think they are.

Destiny is something that has been (and probably will be) debated. I'll give you the sun has shown destiny in a way I don't recall ever seeing it presented. Not as some linear thing but a ball of yarn thrown out on the ground. A chance encounter Jude has with an attractive English guy can turn out to be the man that Noah had drawn years ago because that was part of her destiny. Her new teacher could be the same man that her mom knew without either of them knowing. Everything is connected but never in the way you think it would be.
This book also shows excellently that its okay to just be you. One of the main characters in this book, Noah, is gay. This isn't pointed out in this book like its a huge deal or something horribly abnormal. Its just okay. And I love that. While it does cause some problems between him and his sister they do an excellent job of not making his sexuality that bad guy.
Lastly, sometimes things don't turn out the way you thought they would. Noah saw his mom doing something she shouldnt. He realized that she was going out late to do it every evening. He knew that was what was messing with their marriage. But he could have never ever predicted the impact that would have on Jude years later as her teacher. Everything comes full circle and this is surely no exception.
Over all, this book is wonderful and I totally recommend reading it. Its basically the best.

This book was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. It was wonderful and sad and so complicated that sometimes even I got lost in it. Everything is tied into everything else, the world building is very strong. I loved how they handled the romance between Noah and Brian. It was so realistic, Noah fell head over heels but Brian was terrified of loosing his scholarship. Its just so real. The depression Noah faces due to so many things happening and the change that happens in Jude's life because of her mother. The emotions are raw and so obviously there, right on the page. If I could have added anything to the book it would have been a little bit more of Noah's perspective, we spent a lot of time on Jude. Don't get me wrong though, as I kept reading Jude became on of my favorite characters. I especially loved her Grandmother's book of charms and superstitions.
