The role of a teacher in the classroom is to guide the students through their learning so that they may be good-contributing members to society. The subject taught is typically something the teacher is passionate, and may know lots about.

I have had teachers in the past that have guided our discussions and presented both sides to the argument which allowed me to form my own opinion and open my mind up to other ideas and concepts (Constructivism).

How I would address diverse learners...

I will test diverse students by using various forms of differentiation when formatively assessing students. For example:

Getting different leveled readings to ensure the kids who are on the lower half of the spectrum are getting the help they need, and those that are at a higher level can get the challenge they need

Presenting information in multiple ways (visual, auditory, hands on).

Work on students phonics, making sure that they are increasing their vocabulary

I had to study how Differentiation was used in classrooms during my internship in order to receive some credit. The information had shown that with Differentiation, students were able to learn information at their own pace. I also saw an uptick in scores for those students who were not making the benchmark which was an awesome accomplishment!

A very important aspect of a classroom is diversity. Diversity is extremely important to have in a classroom because it takes the different perspectives and viewpoints of all students, and allows them to learn and incorporate it into their lives and society. This also helps them to widen their viewpoints on life. Diversity is seen in every classroom whether it be diversity with religion, gender, sexuality, or race. As a teacher, it is important to have these different perspectives from students in order to continue our journey of learning in a classroom setting. Another big thing that I like to include is the importance of inclusion. Without having students exposed to those who may be at different learning abilities, or may have different viewpoints from them, students would not be able to learn and grow as members of society. One of the main reasons I want to become a teacher is because I feel it is very important to have all different types of learners in the classroom and to ensure that each and every voice is heard and feels like they are in a safe space. If we are to lose the diversity aspect in a classroom, then we would lose a very important and valuable way of life and our society.
