material: oil pastels. blue, red, orange, white, brown, black, yellow. and a piece of A 4 paper.

process: i used light yellow to outline the main shape and land scape of the scream. and then, i used red pink, purple and darker color to add the shade of the sky and used blue and black to outline the lake. then, i colored the fences and the ground. At last, i used white oil pastel to blend the same type of color together. for example: mix orange, yellow and bright pink. blue, dark blue, light blue, and green. and brown, black and light grey.

self evaluation: I spent a lot of time on this project and i am vert proud of myself for doing this. i like the lake and land part but for the sky part, I think I should mix the color more with white pastel. For the blending part, this can present the idea of "scream" through blending and mixing the colors. In the original paint by Edvard Munch, he mixed color to make the environment looks more chaotic and messy, because this can convey how the society background influence the person who is screaming. If I don't mix the color properly, the paint can't show how messy and terrible the environment is and if the background is clean, the reason of the scream is not so reasonable.

material: black and white chalk. camera, scissors and a pin.

process: for making this media, i took a picture first with my tablet. (im standing in front of a white wall so that it didn't look messy. then, i put the picture on a word document and adjusted it to 1/3 scale to an A4 paper. while waiting for it to print out, i drew the background of "scream" . first, i drew a brief landscape of the background with white. then, i started to add layers and mix them with black chalk. once that is finished, i cut out the picture of my self and put it on the background.

self evaluation: I love this media i made. this is my favorite media out of all four because it looks neat and nice, also I'm surprise with how my picture fits the background.(the scale looks exactly like the "scream scale"). Next time, for better improvements, I think i need to keep working on the background, to make it look more dreary. the idea of using chalks to outline the background is that the easily mixing chalks can describe the idea of "dreary" and "gloomy". Comparing with the origin paint "scream" by Edvard Munch. his background is very messy and symbolic. For conveying the same idea as the aritist's, i have to mix both white and black together to make the atmosphere to make it look horror and terrifying. this will certainly make relevance with the photo we took-- "black and white". the two elements on the paint is making huge connections to clearly describe "scream".
for further improvements, i should add more lines on the landscape to make more content.

But my work doesn't show it completely, because the carving was not deep enough. For better improvements, I should carve harder and it will show the idea of scream more clearly.

Compare to Edvard Munch's original paint "the Scream". the person is screaming with the background because it is obvious that the landscape it twisting with the person. I got my inspiration from Roger Federrer, because he is a tennis player that hit tennis balls. Then, i found some kid's faces so I think that combine them together should present "scream". Both of the work -- my work and the original "scream" show how society influence people so that they are all screaming.
next time, i should add more color or materials to the background to make it seems more abstract or creepy in order to reflect the main topic.

There are four topics related with the key words. first one, loneliness, meaning being lonely and separate apart. I thought of the words heart breaking and the feeling of lost. Next one, I have "wound and pain", this can mean both physical and mental harms. It can mean having pain and scar; it can mean hurting from the outside world and the people around. The third topic: Imprison. this reminded me of robot, because robot's systems are written by human, its dead and inactive, its unfree and bored. The fourth topic: puberty. this is a period that we are going through.

for this art work, the painting color is the most crucial part in the whole thing. what I want to convey is that a person with white shadow, is the one with a pure, innocent and happy soul. He/she made a wonderful memory. (with colors like red, light yellow, green, blue which represents happiness, sadness, and golden memories.) with all the bright colors combining together , it mixed into a memory that he won't forget for his life time. but the person who is standing on the door way shows another tone which is the tone shift of the drawing. The colors got chaotic and miserable. I used more darker colors to represent the idea of miserable and vague.
For mixing the colors, I used the water color pen, paint brush and a sponge. the paint gets dissolved in the water really quick, its a great way of showing how memories change and mix together.
in the middle, there's a bottle of flower, half of the bottle of flower is fresh and the other half is dying. this shows the character's mood, his soul was alive and now he's dying and leaving to the cold world.
advantages of the work: The colors of the floor and the wall really convey the meaning of the different person in the picture. Also, I like how I mix them together to show the chaotic scene.

Magritte Document

Not like symbolism, surrealism doesn’t need to have a specific meaning through the painting. For Magritte, what is concealed is more important than what is open to view: this was true both of his own fears and of his manner of depicting the mysterious. He can show what he wanted to say through the mysterious objects in the drawing, however, it can have a special meaning.
For the first image, The Return. 1940. The image contains a dove flying in the sky. The night is a mixture of light and dark blue. There are tiny stars twinkling in the sky. In the middle, there is a dove, the inside of the dove is a slightly brighter colour with clouds, which means the good weather. This is obviously “through” the dove. I think that Magritte used “through” to express the meaning of dove. A bright, blue sky can be meaning clean and pure, and that’s what the dove represent as well. In a dark sky full of dark clouds, a pure, holy dove is flying across.
For the last image, The key to the fields. The weird thing about the drawing is that the broken pieces of the window is also “painted” like the background. It is like the trees and grass are painted on the window and some one broke it. Maybe, Magritte is trying to say that the picture you can see on the window is not true, you have to go out and explore in the nature.

For the final painting, I want to use the theme "time" to represents how the time goes fast that it can wipe everything away, but still, something cannot be changed. I want to use objects like the melting clocking, butterfly, caterpillar, pupa, moon, and stone henge. These can represent how things changed through time with things that stay for permanent.

Time Wash

This is both surrealism and symbolism work for my assessment. In the painting, there is a set of stonehenge, melting clocks, cocoon and butterflies. For the background, I have the universe and the moon for the landscape. As we all know, surrealism is known as the juxtaposition of distant realities to activate the unconscious mind through the imagery. Obviously, stonehenge doesn't appear on the moon, this is very surrealist and it makes a dreary atmosphere, so that people who saw this painting will be starting to wonder why the stonehenge is on the moon. Also, there are a few clocks on my painting and all of them are melted. I put melted clocks because I want to show the surrealism through the strange objects. Also, I borrowed a painting from the internet called the Persistence of Memory. The painting used the melting clock and the adverse landscape to show how the time pasts so fast. Based on that observation, I turned the image to a more surrealist imagery. I used a few obvious symbol to show the contrary between the objects. For example: the stone henge. This is a view that has not been changed for the past hundreds of years, which means the time doesn't "wash" them off, but for the cocoon, it represents changes throughout a special period. Time pasts fast so that the butter fly comes out of the cocoon. Compare to the stonehenge on the moon, one thing that is changing with the background that stands for everlasting, the conflicts here is really obvious.
The reason why I chose the background of the moon is because it is literally very weird for a place for stonehenge. Also, I want to mention that time changes anywhere, not just where we are living, but also the universe, the moon, the atmosphere. It is just a matter of location and everything will change throughout a special period of time; however, on the moon, it will be some sort of different compare to the real world. No one knows what is like on the moon, and this is just a guess of what is going to happen on there.
What I really wanted to show through this picture is that time can wash almost anything, but not everything. Stonehenge can be the symbolism of love, friendship, relationship, reputation or fame. The changing butterflies can be the representation of a child growing to an adult. The melting clocks can be the meaning of time changing everything and twist everything. Although the time is "washing" and changing everything, stonehenge are still there and they may last forever and always.
There is always something, deep in your mind, that is unforgettable and it will be there, in the deep of your mind forever.

 material used:
Canvas, water color paint, brush, water color pen.

Process: first, use pencil to sketch the outline, then, use light blue to paint the background of the canvas. The process of the painting has to be gentle and do it by layer, so that the paint can get on it more easily. then, shade the dark color objects and keep on adding dark color. At last, wait for it to dry and add the darkest color on.

Reflection:
I really like my painting, It represents my thoughts in a very clear way. But for a better improvements, I should try to mix and create more colors, not just pure color so that it can look with more layers and more 3D.
