Animal Farm is conveyed in third person narration. The narrator focus on variety of character which make the reader get the overview of the whole story.
The setting of the novel is set at Willingdon, England. The time frame is not disclosed by the narrator. But we can see that the story is influenced by Russian Revolution 1917. The place of the farm can be seen as representative of capitalist government of England. As result we can see in the story the person in power are becoming more corrupted the more power they have.
The overall story of Animal Farm show the main theme of leadership and corruption. We can see this going from the rebellion of the animal to the ending of the Animal Farm where the animal can't distinguished between man and the pigs. This whole theme conveyed the warning of abusing power from the people in charge.
The author of the book is George Orwell. Other publications that have been done by the same author is nineteen eighty-four. This other novel is about a world that is set in an imagined future, that has fallen victim to perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and propaganda. This other novel is set quite differently compared to the novel being discussed here which is Animal Farm. ‘1984’ is about a dystopian future whereas ‘Animal Farm’ is about animals who rebel against their human leaders in search of a better future but end up becoming corrupted and turn into the people that they themselves once despised.
The genre of ‘Animal Farm’ is political satire. This book in my opinion stands out among the top in this genre as the way the message that the book is trying to depict is through allegorical means. The book in directly tries to give us the political message through a rebelling farm and how power can change anyone. The normality of this genre is that the message trying to be shown an be seen quite easily as the books of this genre are quite straightforward while ‘Animal Farm’ even based on the title does very little in trying to say that it is of the political satire genre. Only by reading the book can you understand what this novel is truly trying to say.
This novel delves curiously into the minds of a community of farm animals who grow tired of their life on the farm and aspire to make a difference, in the most drastic and dramatic way a group with no opposable thumbs could.
The novel given an interesting take on farm animals as sentient and pictures them as creatures similar to humans in terms of personification and personality. While it can be read by a child, its implications and allegory can only really be appreciated by a learned person or at least someone who has the sense to Google search the meaning behind the book. The narrative is consistently interesting and does not disappoint as the story, although not the most fast paced, does not drag the storyline and keeps the reader interested as to what the characters are going to do next and how they solve each problem that they face.
I do like this book, as it hides such a huge metaphor behind something as simple as talking farm animals. It is also a book that provided you learn more about the world, you will understand differently the next time you read it.
I would read more by George Orwell because a good author often produces other good works, in his case the also bestselling dystopian novel '1984'. He as an author is known for his work that conveys narratives that oppose totalitarianism and social injustices such as in Animal Farm and this is wildly interesting as he packages such important prose into novels anyone could read.
I would most definitely recommend anyone to read Animal Farm and other novels by George Orwell as they are simply too good to pass on and it's not too heavily worded despite the significant messages in his writings.
