On page 76 in the book Fallen Angles by Walter Dean Myers, it quotes " No good, then it becomes one of those noble flicks about interracial love, and they kill you off at the end so they can show it in Georgia." Perry was being asked if  he does  have a girlfriend. He mentions he has talked to a nurse before. His mate asked if she was white or black.Perry said she was white. Perry's mate told him its not good to be with a white woman because bad things could happen to you. On pages 40-42 when Jenkins gets shot, the soldiers try their best to get him to safety and heal him. My cousin works in the military in the navy. He is constantly on the ship traveling all over the world. Him and his crew need to work together such as the soldiers in the novel to accomplish the mission .  If one man falls, everyone falls.  You have to look out for each other. I would recommend this book to him because he would easily understand the plot of the novel and he could relate to what the soldiers have to do in the novel. On the bottom of  page 200, it tells the reader how having someone care for you can mean a lot. Recently, there has been wars in countries such as Syria, Iran, Iraq etc. Many people are dying and losing their loved ones. Barack Obama, The president of the United States of America, has been in the middle of these wars. An example would be that he wanted to bring in Syrian refuges into the US for shelter and protection. Many Americans has disagreed fearing that the refugees will bring the war with them. President Obama has once said " I understand why war is not popular, but I also know this: The belief that peace is desirable is rarely enough to achieve it. peace requires responsibility. Peace entails sacrifice." There could be peace between any countries. On pages 74-75 it talks about how his mother felt about him leaving. It says " I thought about Mama. I worried about her. She had  hoped that when I finish high school i would get a job and help keep the house together. When I told her  I was going into the army.." (74) She told him he doesn't have to go but leaving was his only option. Perry couldn't afford to go to college so going to the army was his way out of the neighborhood. 

This memory moment reminds me of when my dad has to leave every 1-2 months to go travel and work out of the country. He has been working out the country for about 3 years now. When he first left I would feel sad because it would be a while until he came back. Perry's mom is upset because her son is leaving to go to war. She won't know whether he'll come alive or not at all. In my case I hope my dad comes back healthy and fine. Brihanna Nyonga
