Digital Portfolios

The students in this classroom created digital folders for their work and their teacher burned them a CD of their work to keep at the end of the year. I think that this was a very innovative idea in the past few years, and could be improved upon with the usage of google classroom and google drive, as well as tools like padlet, seesaw, and other digital tools available today. You can tell that the students are engaged and learning in this classroom, because they know that their work is going to be seen by their teacher, and that they are going to be held accountable for the work that should be in their digital folders. I could see doing something like this on google drive. I have just tried out google classroom this week with my 2nd and 3rd graders, and I am interested to see how something like this could turn into a digital portfolio.
I located this video through TIM:
https://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/project/digital-portfolio/

In this classroom, students had finished learning about energy from the sun and created videos that were used to encourage people to use energy from the sun. This is another example I found that seems like a very innovative idea from a few years back, but could be adapted even more easily today with newer technologies available to students such as iPads, chromebooks, and sharing platforms such as the one I use in class: Seesaw. The thing that I appreciated about this lesson, is that the teacher had audience in mind when she was planning to have the kids make these announcements. She could have had them present live to their class, but she knew that videotaping them would give students a chance to share with any grade at their school. This could also be taken father and she could find a class to connect with from another state, perhaps, studying the same thing. Of course, parents could also be given access tot he videos which would increase audience even more. You can tell that students are learning here because they were the ones who had to create the PSA, and they were responsible for knowing the information well enough to present it in a video format. This is an easy way for a teacher to assess learning, while also making it more engaging for students. I will likely use this idea in my classroom this year integrated with Seesaw so that it can be shared. I have had 3rd graders in past years create PSA videos on iPads about the ocean, but didn't know about or use any sharing platforms with them!

I located this video through TIM at: https://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/project/energy-from-the-sun/
