Martin talks about Lionel's background and how he was raised, bringing up his parents who were neglectful of him. His Dad was not present during his childhood, which research shows is unhealthy for a child, especially for a son because he has no role model to follow or look up to. His mother was also neglectful, because she had disregarded his background of multiple suspensions and anger problems but still left her with the six year old without checking on them from time to time.

Jenkins explains how brain development is not the problem because brain development is the same for everyone and juvenile crime rates are not all the same over the world. She also used a lot of loaded  language like "murderers", "killers", "children dying", etc.  Pointing out propaganda that surrounds the topic, like the 7-8 year old children pictured behind bars to represent the juvenile delinquent who had committed serious homicide, etc. Lastly, she brings up her own experiences with the killing of her own sister by a teenager, and how no one helped her with victim outreach or support because the attention is mainly focused on the person who committed the crime.

She explained how a child abuse expert can prove that the brutal beating was not a wrestling imitation but a murder. Monacelli said that the 6 year old girl was left with 35 injuries, which can also be a result of falling off a 3 story building, under only 5 minutes. The author also explicitly explains how he did not make the most of the many chances that he was given.
Monacelli was leaning more on the side of juveniles getting life sentence because Tate could've done better with his parole rather than taking advantage of it. I believe that every child should not be deprived of their future, especially since they have not lived their lives to the highest potential. I also do think some crimes that children have done are very unlawful but the most time you should give them is around 40-60 years in prison. The child should receive parole and any help that they need to help better themselves.
