Interactive Reasoning - Sui Jardin

Interactive reasoning focuses more on building rapport and trust with Maria. This supports her emotional well-being during rehabilitation. She is clearly frustrated and sad about her loss of independence. Active listening and empathizing would validate her feelings while maintaining encouragement. A supportive therapeutic relationship would greatly benefit her as it would make her feel seen and capable, making her want to go to therapy and collaborate. I would also change my communication style to better suit her mild aphasia, this is to help us connect and make sure that we understand each other. This reasoning will allow me to connect with Maria not just as her therapist but as a person.

Narrative Reasoning - Alexa Abregana

Narrative reasoning focuses on understanding Maria's story and using it to guide her therapy. Before her stroke, she was an active and independence homemaker who enjoyed cooking and caring for the family. After her stroke, her routine and identity changed, which made her feel sad and frustrated. As an OT student, I would listen to her experiences and help her rebuild confidence by doing meaningful activities, like cooking with adaptive tools. This can help her reconnect with her role as a mother and regain a sense of purpose. By understanding her journey toward recovery, I can help Maria rebuild her confidence, adapt to her new situation, and create a hopeful narrative of independence and resilience.

Procedural reasoning - Blaise Byno Volante

Using procedural reasoning, I would approach Maria's therapy by identifying her specific problems, setting goals, and implementing targeted interventions. Given her difficulties with daily living tasks due to left hemiparesis and mild aphasia, my initial goal would be to help Maria regain independence in activities such as dressing and meal preparation. I would assess her home environment and introduce adaptive equipment and strategies to facilitate safety and accessibility. By breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable steps and providing opportunities for practice and feedback, I can help Maria build confidence and competence. Through this process, I aim to empower Maria to adapt to her new situation, regain her independence, and participate in meaningful activities that bring her joy and fulfillment.

Pragmatic Reasoning - Frances Gurrea

Since it emphasizes practical problem-solving and the real-world setting of Maria's recovery, pragmatic reasoning is one of the best fitting methods for this instance. Maria, a 67-year-old lady with mild aphasia and left hemiparesis, deals with mental and physical issues that impact her day-to-day activities, so when creating interventions, the occupational therapist can take into account her surroundings, resources, and personal goals with Pragmatic reasoning. For example, while making sure that the home arrangement promotes Maria's safety and independence, the therapist can give priority to adapted techniques for dressing and cooking, which are meaningful activities for her. This logic also makes sure to incorporate social and emotional elements such as her lack of support system and frustration so the therapist is basically helping Maria restore function, confidence, and quality of life by using this specific type of reasoning to strike a balance between professional expertise and practical, client-centered solutions.
