People want to erase this from history because they either hate Jewish people or because they can't accept that humans are capable and willing to do this to our own kind. We shouldn't get rid of war and mass genocide in the history books. If people don't see how bad history really was at a young age, they're eventually bound to do something similar, as children are more easily swayed into different beliefs.
