         <description><![CDATA[<p>Chapter 8: Security Issues and Ethics in Education</p><p>What is a computer security risk?</p><ul><li><p>Computer security risk: Any event or action that has the potential of causing a loss of computer equipment, software, data and information, or processing capability </p></li><li><p>Some of these risks, such as viruses, unauthorized access and use, and information theft, are a result of deliberate acts that are against the law. </p></li><li><p>Computer Crime is referred to any illegal act involving a computer generally.</p><p><br></p><p>What is a computer virus? </p></li><li><p> Computer virus is potentially damaging program that affects computer negatively by altering the way computer works without your knowledge or permission. </p></li><li><p>A computer virus is a segment of program code that implants itself in a computer file and spreads systematically from one file to another.</p></li><li><p>Computer viruses do not generate by chance. Creators of virus programs write them for a specific purpose.</p><p>Three main types of viruses exist: </p></li><li><p>1. Boot Sector Virus – replaces your boot program used to start the computer with a modified, infected version of the boot program. </p></li><li><p>2. File Virus – inserts virus code into program files; the virus then spreads to any program that accesses the infected file. </p></li><li><p>3. Macro Virus –uses the macro language of an application to hide virus code, such as Spread Sheet and Excel.</p></li></ul>]]></description>
