I absolutely love this story, but it is for a more mature audience, lets just say in a certain part it talks about non kid thing. I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson, about Greek mythology, and The Kane Chronicles, which is about Egyptian mythology series (by Rick Riordan). The Heroes of Olympus, a spinoff of Percy Jackson, is also very good. Magnus Chase is about Norse Mythology, but it ties in a little bit to Percy Jackson, as Magnus Chase is the cousin of Annabeth Chase, who is in the Percy Jackson series, who makes a brief appearance. The Trials of Apollo is also REALLY good, and I totally recommend it. Apollo the Greek god gets turned into a teenager, awkward human mortal when he angers Zeus, and it's super good. My favorite of the Rick Riordan series. I also enjoyed the Tristan Strong series, which is about West African and African American folktale heroes and gods, and the Aru Shah series (RR Presents). I also recommend Dragon Pearl. City of the Plague God is good, too.
      Another good series with nothing to do with Rick Riordan is The Unwanteds (comes first) and Unwanteds Quests (comes second) series.

There's a lot of individuality and diversity. From discovering being queer, to overcoming SA, bullying, staying true to one's self, and overcoming difficult family situations like neglect, parents with addictions, and/or alcoholic parents. These books give a great sense of empathy and have deep meanings that aren't usually gone very deep in other books.
