Deep Study of Character Book Club Reflection by Julie Reuter

You just completed Deep Study of Character book clubs. Book clubs were an opportunity to be a reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader. Before we move to our nonfiction unit, let’s take some time to reflect on your effort and collaboration.

As you craft your Padlet response, use the following questions to guide your work.
1. Think about the different book club roles (reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader). Which roles did you do well or were easier for you? Explain your answer. Which roles were challenging for you? Explain your answer.
2. Your group set norms at the start of the book club unit. Why did we set norms? How well did you follow the group norms? Include examples in your response.
3. What did you think of your book club book choice? Would you recommend the book to others?
4. We will begin nonfiction book clubs in a few weeks. What advice can you give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs?

In my book club The Spirit Readers I took on many roles as a student I was good as a writer, teacher, reader, and speaker. I always met my goals never failed my book club, and on task. Our group always had good compliments from Mrs. Ruter. The writer one was a little hard at first but then I got the hang of it,(I was not the leader if you were wondering, Izzy was).

Are group norms are, attentive listing, respect group members, positive attitude, finish work on time, encourage others, and no fooling around, we met all of those expectations and never broke one of them.

I think our book club book choice was amazing, the book had so many good things we could find in the book, almost every single paragraph had something good in it, this book was a very good choice and I would recommend it to you because it is one of the best books I have read so far. When we start the non-fiction unit I recommend to everyone that they should pick a book read a couple pages, and if you like it, read it. Also, pick a book that interests you and your book club think is interesting, and speak up if everyone like a book and you don’t, tell them that that book does not interest you and maybe you guys could pick a new one.

In books clubs for the last couple of weeks, we had so many roles like Ryan was the teacher/ leader, I was kinda the helper, and Monica was the adviser. We all listened to each other and helped each other too if we got stuck on the bend we were doing at the time, we would help each other. The reason I felt that we set norms was to make yourself feel that if we don't do it, it will be rude, for are bookclub to have to deal with it too. I followed the group norms by everyday before we started book club went over them and then you know you have to follow them. For my book roll of thunder, hear my cry, by: Mildred D. Taylor. It was a book that I did not expect to be like it was, I didn't really like it that much but if your a reader that likes to read books about rights then this would be a great book for you. I would give them the advice of try your best, don't act like it's any different than what we just did because all we are doing that is nonfiction. And also i'm very excited to start nonfiction unit because it sounds so much fun.

We just completed theme-based book clubs. The roles that came easily to me where, reader, writer, teacher and the leader. These roles came to me easily because I like to read and write. I love to just sit down and have a good book to read. The role that didn’t come to me easily was being a speaker. Being a speaker is hard for me because I am an introvert. I don’t really like to talk. But that didn’t really keep me down.

We set the norms because we had to have some outline for the book club. We set them to have some rules. I followed the rules pretty well. I always had my work done and I listened to the people who were talking. Every single week I had my work done and was ready to share with the “class”.

I think our book was amazing!! I read Miss. Peregrine's home for peculiar children. It is a great book to read with a book club. I would not recommend you to read it at night because there are some weird and scary things in there. The book is part of an of a series. The next book would be Hollow City.

I would probably say that you should always have your work done. It makes it really hard for your group. If you were in a 2 person book club, you would be the only one sharing.

We have just finished theme based book clubs. The roles I did well in book club was being a reader, listener, and leader. During book club I had failures as well as successes, it was hard for me to be a teacher, writer, and speaker. These were hard for me because I find it hard to talk in front of others confidently, I also have a problem with writing about my thinking. The group norms we set were to help us set goals for the future and so we would have rules to make the book club meeting short and quick. I followed every norm like finishing work on time and I always followed that norm and never broke it. I think my book club book was amazing and I would strongly recommend Among The Betrayed by: Peterson Haddix. I strongly advise that you keep eye contact with your partner, and add a little more to your teaching point than what you have written down.

As we completed theme-based book I realized that in book clubs I had to take on many different roles, such as reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader. I did good in: reader because I got all my reading done and I did it fast so I could get my lesson done and find evidence, teacher because I faced my group head on and I learned from them too, listener because I always was listening and trying to strengthen their ideas (I was not doing this in the beginning but I started to do it through lessons) speaker because I always was talking and helping strengthen the meeting, and most of all leader I was always helping my group by using all the roles above to help the meeting. The hard thing for me was being the writer I usually am very bad at writing and do badly at it. In the book clubs, however, I had to step out of my comfort zone by taking writing the lesson plans head-on.

We had to set group for the book clubs. Some of the norms that we set were you had to have attentive listening and you had to be respectful. That is just some of them. We set the norms so that we would aim to complete all of them and it would make the meeting better. I followed the norms well and my group and me talked over them before every meeting.

The book that we read was called Zach’s Lie. It is a very mysterious book and it has a lot to do with adventure. It all started one night with Jack when he had to become Zach and he had to change himself. Then his new town came Ruby mountains on the border and trouble in the school. Perfect home for a family with secrets. Read to find out more.

Here is some of the advice that I would give for nonfiction book clubs: READ get your reading done before the last two days and make sure to put post-it notes at the evidence (I learned this the hard way by searching for all my evidence to show my group) and that is my book club reflection.

In the time I was in book clubs, I took on many roles. My first role was the teacher, this was hard for me because I am not very good at not reading straight from my sheet. Even though that could be okay, I feel like I am being disrespectful if I am not making eye contact when talking to somebody. My next role was the leader, and even though I was not the club leader, there were still times when I was leading the discussion. This was not too hard but definitely not easy. The reason I say it like that is because if I have a Hard time being the teacher, the leader was not to easy. At the same time being the leader wasn’t too hard. The next role was the speaker, now this one wasn’t too hard but not extremely easy, and weird enough, I don’t know why this one was a little bit hard for me. The next role I want to talk about was the listener, This one was right in the middle of hard and easy, the reason I say this is because listening isn’t my strong suit but it isn’t hard for me. The nest role I want to discuss is the reader. Now, as I mentioned before, reading off of the sheat exactly wasn’t hard, so basically, this wasn’t hard at all because I take a peek at the sheet of paper, and read what I see then rinse and repeat. Last but not least, the one I liked the most, the writing role. I personally loved this portion of the book club unit because I like writing, I am good at supporting thoughts and opinions with evidence, and I just like to write.

Next, we have another thing that I personally was not very hard was setting group norms. The reason I think we set norms was because we need to get our work done but have fun doing it, and we need to follow the rules if we don’t want to be kicked out of our book club. I followed the group norms not extremely amazing but I did my best and gave my all to the group at the time.

I thought that our book was an amazing book. I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy an action/survival type book.
If I had to give any advice to anybody, it is to keep up the amazing work and follow the book club norms. Don’t pick a book you don’t want to read just because your friend is doing it and just really have fun with it.

As I reflect on my time with my Book Club, I noticed a few things. A role I find very easy is reader and listener… this might be because I love to read, and listening comes easily to me because I have to listen to my parents, teachers, and brothers all day! One role that challenged me was the teaching… I stuttered a lot in my lesson and was nervous to share exactly what I wrote and would change my lesson a little, I also struggled with including people in my lesson. Next thing I noticed was that my group set some norms for our time in this book club, I wondered why we set these, and I have a pretty good answer… We set our Norms so that we would know how to act while in session, like respect others, engage in group conversation etc. We followed the Norms pretty good, there were times here and there where we got mad at each other and did not respect them, but the people with the problem made a compromise and that was how it worked. The book we read, Zach’s lie by Roland Smith is a very good book… it is action-packed, funny and a perfect book club book, I definitely recommend it to readers looking for a good book. The fact that we are gonna do a Non-Fiction book club sound so fun and one thing I recommend is to have a positive attitude going into it, if you don’t you won’t like it and it will be a slow 4 weeks for you.

I think that I was a good speaker and listener because I spoke fluently and added on to my book club members thoughts. Being the leader of the book club was easy and hard at the same time because I had a lot of responsibility. I wanted to make sure that I followed the expectations of being the team leader. I also think I was a good reader and writer because, in each book club meeting, I felt confident with my evidence and thinking. I think that I did a very good job with my book club.

I think I did a good job following my book club’s norms. You need to make sure you are finishing your assignment and respecting your materials and book club members. Doing these things will help you have a good book club.

Think about the different book club roles

We just got done with a theme-based book club. For the different book club roles, I was good as a reader because I always had my reading done to whatever chapter it was that my book club group agreed on. And another role that I played on was a writer because I was writing my teaching point to teach for my book club group. And another one played on was the teacher because I was teaching my teaching point and asking questions about it. I thought I was good when listening to my group members because they were respectful to me when I was speaking so I would do the same for them. I was also a speaker because I had to share my teaching point with my group. I think that it was hard sometimes when I had to listen because sometimes I felt proud of my teaching point and I just wanted to blurt it out sometimes.

Your group set norms at the start of the book club unit. Why did we set norms?

To give a message to the group that we need to be doing this in our book club and these are the expectations that should happen when sharing or adding on to people’s thoughts about the book. And also to tell the group this is what could get you kicked out because we all set these and now that shows you group members that you don’t care and that wouldn’t be good to show that message that you may be showing the group.

What did you think of the book club choice?

I was reading the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. I thought that t was good but it didn’t feel like something I would read again just because of what happened in the book and the events and language that happened in the book, I felt like it wasn’t for me.

We will begin nonfiction book clubs in a few weeks. What advice can you give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs?

Make sure that you understand the book and that you stay in your book club and that you follow the norms, and try to show the book club that you care and don’t want to be kicked out of the book club.

In book clubs, we all had to take on different roles. (reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader). I did well on being a reader because I always had my reading done at every book club. I did well on being a writer because I always had my lesson plan done and on the sheet, I organized my quotes into three different sections and had good analysis. I did well on being a teacher because I got my point across to the group. I did well on being a speaker because I spoke loud and clear and we all had a conversation about a topic and didn’t just read off the sheet. I also did well on being a listener because I took into consideration what everyone was saying and listened to everyone's ideas and not just mine. Finally, I took on the role of a leader. I took on the role of a leader by making sure everyone had their work done and by getting my work done.
Some things I could’ve worked on in book clubs is explaining my ideas better and getting everyone involved. When we first started book clubs I would just have everyone on the same page and read the rest of my paper when they weren’t even on the page yet. But, then I fixed myself and now ask questions before explaining my idea, and getting everyone involved before I explain my quote. Another thing I did could work on would be writing everything on the paper because most of the time I just said the main parts and explained the rest off the sheet and then when Mrs. Reuter saw the sheet and was not watching our meeting she didn’t hear me explain more into detail.

One reason we set norms was so that way at the start of book clubs we can make sure that we are all on the same page with how this meeting has to go. What I mean by that is if we didn’t have norms we would be all over the place and nobody would get their work done. The whole time I followed the norms. I always had my work done and was respectful to the group and when disagreed, disagreed kindly.

Since I am reading Mrs. Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, overall it was an amazing book. It was filled with adventure and amazement. I give this book a definite 10/10. I would recommend this book to 6th graders most definitely.

Some piece of advice would be to ask your group members what they think about your quote before you explain it.

Some roles were easy for me like being a listener because I could make connections to the teaching points and compare them to my life. At every point of the book club, I was a reader and a writer because I was assigned to read and to write about the reading. Sometimes being a leader was hard because when someone doesn't have their work done it affects the whole group. But being a leader made me expand my thinking and connections throughout the club and book.

The reason why we set book club norms is because collaborative book clubs rely on all group members to take this learning opportunity seriously since everyone's learning is at stake. Another reason why is because so that we can review our expectations so no one gets off task and or distracted. As a group, we followed our norms and read them before every meet.

The Egypt Game by Zilpha Keatley Snyder wasn't the best book but it wasn't the worst so I would recommend this book to people that like adventure and solving mysteries.

In the next book club, I can give advice to classmates and that is to come prepared and keep track of time when sharing our teaching points and annythis. Also, don't rely on the cover or the summary to drive your thinking about the book/story.

I just finished reading the book Among The Betrayed and as a student I took on many roles. Some of the roles I think I did well are, I think I did well on being a reader because I read my book on time and did not struggle. I think I did well on being a writer because I did well on writing my jots. Also I think I did well on being a listener because I think I listened to my partner when it was his turn to talk, and I was listening to the norms by getting all my work done and having it done on time. Some of the roles I struggled on were, I think I struggled at being a teacher because I do not like to present things in front of my teachers and my classmates. I struggled at being a speaker because I do not like to speak in front of people, so that was a very hard thing to do. I also think I struggled on being a leader because sometimes I mess up on my homework sometimes or do it the wrong way when my teammate does it the right way.

I strongly advise you listen carefully to your partners, do well on conversing with your partners, and keep eye contact with your partners. Good Luck!!

Which role was easiest for you? Which role was the most challenging for you?

The easiest role for me to play was probably reader since I love to read and I usually finished my reading well before our meetings so that I was on track to write my lesson. A role that challenged me was probably being a teacher. I, myself am really bad at sticking to a general topic while talking, and talking from a sheet of paper so I think being a teacher challenged me to talk from my paper and not improve what I needed to say and had me stick to my teaching point and not just talk about random parts of the book and what they mean.

Why do we set group norms? How well did your book club group follow the group norms?

We set group norms so that everyone has a guideline to follow when collaborating and it makes the book club more of a serious thing in our minds of there are rules.

I have just completed my fiction book club. The book we read was Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen. The book is about a boy named Cole, and at the age of a high schooler, has done some serious and/or destructive actions out of anger. Because of beating up Peter Driscal (and smashing his head into the sidewalk in the process) out of anger, he gets banished to an remote Alaskan island for one whole year.

During this book club, me and my group took on many roles. One role that was easy for me was being the speaker. This role was easy for me because I absolutely love talking. Also, when sharing ideas, it makes the original person’s idea sound more advanced The second role that was easy for me was being the reader. This role was easy for me because reading is super fun. Also, you might notice different information or something others didn’t notice at all when reading the book. One role that was difficult for me was being the listener. This is a difficult role because I love talking. When I get excited, I go into talking mode and want to start talking about it right away. If I think about it too much, I might not be paying full attention.

At the beginning of our book club, we had to set norms (rules). We did this because otherwise your book club would be a whole mumble-jumble of things. I think I followed the norms appropriately. For example, we had to do our work for our next meeting. I always showed up w/ my work on time even if I had to re-do it. I always did the work because I knew that if I didn’t do it, it would affect me and my group members and if I continued not to do it, I would get kicked out of my book club. Another example is how I didn’t put any of my group members down and nor did they do it to me. I know I shouldn’t put my group members down because it isn’t nice. Also, I could’ve gotten kick out of my book club. If it went too far, I would’ve had to go to the office and probably get written up. A final example is how we shouldn’t goof around. Sure, we can goof around every once and awhile but I didn’t do it the whole time. If me and my group would goof around the whole time, then we would get nothing out of our book club. Also, we’d probably get banned from doing books clubs ever again.

I loved this book because it had the right feel to it and it definitely had my interest and caught my eye. I definitely recommend this book because it has a great life lesson and it was just an amazing book. It was an amazing book because first of all, each one of the characters, even if they didn't play much of a role, had absolutely amazing background stories. Secondly, the details were in, like, full power mode and I could easily detect lots of them. Third of all, the changing of the mood throughout the book starting all the way from being ma, to a bit more calmer at the end.

Because we are starting nonfiction book clubs in a few weeks, here are two pieces of advice I will give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs. The first piece of advice is that you shouldn’t interrupt each other. This is a good piece of advice because even though you have something to say you should wait your turn. Also, if your interrupt someone and they’re saying something important, you might miss it. The second piece of advice is that you should respect others in your group. This is an important piece of advice because you could get more friends, even if it’s out of school. A second reason why this is an important piece of advice is because if you’re caught being very disrespectful and/or not participating, you’d get kicked out of your book club.

Thank you for letting me read this book!!!

I just finished my book, Big Game by Dan Smith and if you love adventure, this book would be perfect for you. While doing book clubs, being a reader, teacher, speaker and leader were easy jobs. It was a little more difficult writing and listening. These roles were challenging because usually in our lesson it would be only be focused on one thing so it was a little harder to craft a lesson when we have to read so much.

I think it was a great idea to set norms. Without the norms, the group would be disorganized and wouldn’t be in control. I think the norms we set were good and everyone followed what they were. We sometimes forget we have to print our lesson but that is something we need work on. Besides that, my group members are following our norms like attentive listening, participating, no fooling around, respect, appreciations and no put-downs. Mostly everyone got their work done, read each part, being prepared and having your book club items ready.

After reading this book, I would definitely recommend it! I think I chose a great book and many different people that like different things should read it because it is not just about hunting or passing a trail, it also kind of teaches a life lesson.

When we start non-fiction books, you should always be prepared because if you aren’t you can’t do anything, have good evidence, and don’t fool around. You should also practice the roles you are not good at. It will help in the future and in some of the sections I need to work on say speak louder and not so fast, so next book club, that is something I need to work on. This is what I will work on and what I think my peers should do.

As we finished our book club books, I realized that we had many roles in being apart of a book club. I did some roles better than others, and some I still need to work on. I think the book club roles I did the best were a reader, a writer, and a listener. I really enjoyed reading our book club book, and I tried to gather the best evidence in the book for my teaching point. I also tried my hardest to listen to my book club members and talk to them. The roles that I need to work on are being a speaker and a leader. I need to work on writing what I need to say down on paper so I can read it off, and I need to learn to lead my group better.

In our bookclubs, we all set norms at the beginning to make sure the book club kept in line. We set the norms to let everyone know what they have to do in our book club, and how you have to act. For example, a few of our norms were ‘Come prepared, No put-downs,’ and ‘Do assigned work.’ This means that we have to come prepared to our meetings, we have to respect each other, and we have to be on track with our work. I think I did okay following the norms. I respected my group and listened when it was their turn to talk. The only thing I need to work on is ‘coming prepared’ because my first book club sheet wasn’t done properly.

Now that I’ve finished the book, I would 100% recommend it to others! I think Mrs. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is an amazing book full of action. It is full of symbolism, motifs, and themes too. I really enjoyed my book club meetings because everyone had their own interesting ideas about the book.

Since we’re starting our nonfiction book clubs in a few weeks, I guess I should give you some advice. First, always keep track of when your meetings are, so you can keep track of the work you need to do. Second, after your meeting, you should read your book as much as possible, so that you finish your reading way before the next meeting, and will have time to write out your teaching point. And finally, use your resources! If you’re confused, you can look back at your past teaching points, ask a friend, or re-read your book.

I read the book Mockingbird by: Harper Lee. I first was asked the question, Which roles did you do well on were easier for you? Explain. There was many different jobs that you had to take on deepening what you were doing that second. A few things that worked good for me was, first the reader. I was very good at getting all my pages complete on time and if I did not understand something I would go back and read it so I would be prepared for are next meeting. Doing the reading also leads me into the writing portion of the group. I was very good on telling what I had to say for the teaching points. For example for are last book club meeting, it was bend 3. We did not learn symbolism but I thought it was super important throughout the whole book so I tried it. Another job I was good at the speaker. I was very good at knowing what was on my sheet but also after reading my quote I new why this was important because if it was not, why would I have included it? Finally, the last job I took on in the group was being the leader. I was good at this because I lead the group through the book club meeting making sure every time I would take about the group norms before we started. Then I would make sure we all are staying on track in the group. In my group some jobs I thought I was good at where, the reader, writer, speaker, and the leader. But then there was some jobs I would like to improve on.

I was then asked another question, what roles were harder for you? A had a few roles that were hard for me and those were, teacher, and listener. For teacher I was not very good at teaching the teaching point. I could have really got the teaching point more clear and really asked more questions to really engage the other members in the group. I did better on the listener, I did good with my normal skills, with listing nodding my head, and making sure the person sharing nows that I am listing. The part I did not good on was the part were in the group I would stop them and share my idea. Are whole group really had to work on that together but did really good on the last one. So I did good on listing to the reader it was just the part where I would want to share my idea. Something I could work on in my next book is being the teacher, and then a little part of being the listener.

After I read my book I was wondering, what did I think about my book club choice? Would I recommend the book to others? First of all, I thought the book was okay. I really did not like it but when it was the last few chapters it was super good. Something I did not like about the book were some of the characters. What I mean by this is, some of the characters did not fit with the story, but I loved how surprising the end of the book was. Then would I recommend this book to any one, I think if they are looking for an easier book and one that could really build up its impact you should read it but it is not one of my favorites.

The last question I was asked was, What advice can you give to classmates as they move to anew round of book clubs? Some advice I would give is, to make sure you find the best evidence to fight your teaching point because it makes your group conversation better for your group, and then easier for you to write a long jot. Some other advice I would give is, to make sure you are good at all the jobs you take on. Even if you try your best you will do way better in your group and it will help you even more. Finally is, that you should make sure you have all your work done. Having all your work done will make you prepared for any of the teaching points and incase you need to share more evidence to go along for what you already have you will be prepared and your conversation will be better. Here are 3 pieces of advice I give to you for are next book club.

The book I am reading is The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. I had many different roles in my book club and every single one was very essential. The easiest role between reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader was being the listener. One way it was easy was giving eye contact and engaging when the speaker asked questions to prove that I was listening. Even though it’s very easy to get distracted by the conversation or your surroundings my club and I did a very good job ignoring our surroundings and focus on what the person is saying. This really helps me to show mutual respect to the speaker and I will continue do an amazing job in the next book club. The role which was challenging is being the teacher because it is really hard to teach readers who are in a really high level. Plus, for me I’m very nervous because I don’t want to make any mistakes. This is one thing I definitely need to work on in the next book club.

I think we set up group norms so the group is actually a proper group and not some random people saying and doing whatever you want. When you set these norms (rules) we have to strictly follow them no matter what. Our group personally, did a very very good job following the rules which is good because that’s why we set these norms. One example of a norm was complete your reading that is assigned, clearly I could see everyone had done their reading because we had a conversation about each quote we said, which made our team very proud.

The House of the Scorpion is an amazing and exciting book to read because there are many unexpected plot twists which none of our book club members expected. . I would definitely recommend this book to others because it is action- packed, suspenseful and it is in the future. One advice I could give to my fellow classmates is always to start your jots 3-4 days before the meeting because you could ask questions to Mrs. Reuter and you could make last minute adjustments the day before.

Which roles did I do well or were easier for me? (Roles: reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader)

The roles that I thought were easier for me and that I did well were being a listener, a speaker, a leader, and a writer. I thought that I was a good listener when other people were talking and supporting their thoughts. I added on to that person's evidence but I didn’t interrupt that person when he or she was talking. I waited until the speaker stopped talking for a second to quickly add on my thinking. I thought I was a good speaker because I spoke clearly. I didn’t speak too fast or or too slow and I also spoke at a reasonable voice level. I thought I was a good writer because I always had at least two pieces of evidence written down on my lesson plan and I had an analysis fully supporting my evidence. I thought I was a good teacher because when I was teaching my lesson plan I had many different pieces of evidence to support my teaching point. I also analyzed my evidence too.

Which roles were challenging for me? (Roles: reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader)

The only role that I thought was challenging for me was being a teacher. I thought that being a was challenging for me because I didn’t really ask any questions to my other group members about what they thought about my ideas. I just kind of told them my teaching point, evidence to support my teaching point, and my analysis. After I did that we talked about it and added on to the other person's thinking. The main reason why I thought that being a teacher it because I didn’t engage with the other members of my group and ask them questions.

Why did we set norms?

I think we set norms so our groups would be in control and not all over the place. Without norms, our group would have been really disorganized. Our group norms were be respectful of others, be honest on whether or not you have your reading and lesson plan done. Be responsible of your book club stuff which means don’t lose your book or your folder, be good listeners when other people in the group are talking or teaching their teaching point, and finally, stay on track when we are having our meeting and don’t talk about anything other than what we are suppose to be talking about.

How well did our group follow the group norms?

I think our group did pretty good with following the norms. We were all respectful to each other, we were all honest about getting our reading and lesson plans done, we were all responsible of our book club materials which means we didn’t lose our book or our book club folder, we listened to each other when we were talking but sometimes we interrupt someone when they were talking but we got better with that, and finally, we always stayed on track when we were in a book club meeting. Overall, I think our group did really good with following our group norms other than the good listening, but like I said we got better with that.

What did I think of my book club book choice?

I read the book Flipped by: Wendelin Van Draanen and it was amazing! If you like romantic comedies, this book is perfect for you. It was about a girl and a boy, both in seventh grade, share their perspectives on how they felt emotionally about each other. You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens with both of them. I would definitely recommend this book.

What advice can I give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs?

I would first recommend that they pick a book that they would actually like because if they don’t, they’re not going to be very engaged or into the discussions that they’re group has. I would also recommend that they get their work done on time because if you don’t, you will have to sit out on the discussion that day and that wouldn’t be very fun. The last thing that I would advise to classmates is to make sure that they find at least three pieces of evidence for they’re teaching point because that way you will have a good conversation with your group. Two pieces of evidence would also be good but if you do two pieces of evidence, make that they really support your teaching point. That is all that I would advise classmates about.

Which roles did you do well or were easier for you? I played multiple different roles during our book clubs. A few roles I was good at were writer listener and leader. I was a good writer because I wrote thorough answers with detail, I was a good listener because I listened and asked questions to make sure they knew I was paying attention, and I was a good leader because I kept our group talking but I wasn’t very loud. Which roles were challenging for you? Some roles that were challenging for me were teacher and speaker. I did not talk very loud and didn’t always know what to say. I could be better by making sure I am talking loud enough so make my whole group can hear me.

Why did we set norms? We set norms because book clubs rely on all of the group members to have everything done and be ready for the club meeting since everyone’s learning is at stake. How well did I follow the group norms? I always followed our groups norms, I did the assigned reading and writing, I was respectful and honest.

What did I think of my book club book choice? I think my book club book was a good choice: it was intriguing, and full of emotion. Would you recommend the book to others? I would recommend the book to others, I really enjoyed it.

What advice can you give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs? For the next round of book clubs, one suggestion I would make is to make sure your book club is ready and listening to what you are saying, so they understand how your teaching point connects with what you are saying.

As a book club, The House of the Oreo's was a very strong and hardworking book club. We all had our strengths and weaknesses, all together we were a well working, goal achieving, overall well selected book club.

As a book club member I took on many roles. As a reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader I worked very hard. As a reader I always completed the reading that was assigned and understood it to. I love to read and are very passionate about the skill. I was very strong as a reader during the book club and want to continue to follow the skills I learned. Being a writer during the book club was hard at first but once I got the skill done I felt very strong in the formatting of the lesson plans. I originally had some trouble with the first lesson plan but once I figured out the flow of it I learned how to craft some pretty awesome lesson plans. I was also a writer by always following up on my reflection sheet. I was a strong teacher and always could always keep my partners paying attention. I was good at listening but had a time when I interrupted a fellow member by asking a question. I was a good speaker from past experiences and made myself clear and very pronounced. I was a good leader because I would lead the discussions and keep the book club on task.

We set norms at the start of our book club. We set these norms so that we could hold our classmates accountable if they didn't follow the norms and successfully finish the things assigned. Because book clubs need everyone to do the learning since everyone learns from the experience. I always followed the norms, I always completed the reading and I always did the lesson plans. I always did the tribes agreements that we also had on there.

The book The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer is so good and I totally recommend the book. It has a futuristic element along with super complicated characters that have many twists. The characters are very deep and the overall plot is so amazing. I definitely recommend reading it. I rate it a 5 star book. The boo was so good I would read and read because it was so good. I am very picky about books, even though I love books I still get really picky on characters and things like that but I have absolutely nothing poor to say about the book and definitely recommend reading The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer.

As we start to move into non-fiction book clubs I'd like to recommend to new groups that staying on track and doing your work is the best way to find success as a book club. Having everything done not only makes you look good but makes it easy for you to become closer to your book clubs and you can only get your book clubs trust if you are honest about your work and get it done. I know that just getting the work done is all that you need to do to get that pressure that comes with procrastinating not only book clubs but also procrastinating anything else. The only way that you will grow as a book club is if you have your group members trust and you can count on each other.

As a book club, The Riders were very successful. We were able to improve so much from each meeting to the next. It showed in the final book club where we only had one thing that was wrong and we fixed it and kept on moving. We were able to improve together and work together to get better and succeed. Finally, in a short four and a half weeks we went from okay to GREAT!

Which roles did you do well or were easier for you? Explain your answer. Which roles were challenging for you?

For my book club about Point Blanc, by Anthony Horowitz, the roles that were easy for me were: being a reader, listener, and writer. Those were easier for me because I always try my hardest and work hard to get things done. An example of being a writer was when on the last lesson when I wrote this, ‘ This was important and showed my lesson plan by showing awareness.’ {p.2}. This showed how I was having confidence in my writing because I used an analysis transition out, I connected it to my lesson, and I used the main focal point for my lesson by putting awareness in my writing. In comparison, I was probably a better reader. An example is when I noticed that the symbolism of how the clones were like a mirror to the other kids by showing them what would happen if they were spectacular and were fit for their parents. That showed my act as a reader because I was aware that the clones were really symbols. I showed how good I was as a listener because I made eye contact and followed along in with the person speaking. Also, I asked questions. That shows that I was listening because when something didn’t make sense to me I asked a question. Finally, the roles that were easiest for me were: being a listener, reader, and writer.

The roles that were challenging for me in my book club were being: a leader, teacher, and a speaker. I did improve over time, but these roles were still challenging for me. Being a leader was hard to me because it was hard having to lead the group at times. An example was when I had trouble asking questions at the first book club. My intentions were to try to clarify the answer for me. But, wanted to make sure that it made sense. I improved over time but wasn’t as strong of a leader as the other qualities like being a: reader, listener, and writer. Being a teacher was hard because I had to master something before I could teach it. In the week we had, I usually master a teaching point. But, at the first teaching point I had I didn’t really master it. I chose, Ask “What kind of place is this.” I knew what I was doing, but didn’t use the text evidence enough so I didn’t succeed. Using the text was important because then the other group members could read the focus and share their own opinion so then they can know what I think and ask questions and disagree. That shows that you are also listening because if you share your opinion and read the passage, then you know where the reader is. In the first book club, I didn’t do that so I didn’t let my group members get engaged because I was only sharing my opinion and didn’t master my lesson plan. I improved a lot but didn’t get to the same point as the other things. The final role that was challenging for me was a speaker. I have been shy at times throughout the school year especially when I am adapting to something new. So the first few book clubs I wasn’t as vocal as the last few. That is important because I didn’t voice my opinion as much and could have added key moments to the conversation, but felt too shy to open up. I got a lot vocal by the end of the book clubs and helped keep the book club going at times. But didn’t do it for the whole time during book clubs. Finally, the roles that were challenging for me were: being a leader, teacher, and a speaker.

Why did we set norms? How well did you follow the group norms?

We set norms because they were rules that we needed to follow to make our meetings as good as possible. We needed rules because then everything was clear to the group. An example is when my group made norms. We chose five rules that were easy to follow, would make us prepared for our book club and would make our book clubs as respectable as possible. Our five norms were: everyone has to do their reading, everyone has to do the work, we have to cooperate, everyone should respect others ideas, and pay attention when others are talking. Our two main ones where do the reading and finish the work. Those were the most important because without them we wouldn’t be prepared at all for the meeting making the meeting very difficult. I felt that I did well with the group norms. I didn’t read, do the work, cooperated, or didn’t pay attention to others. However, it may have looked at times that I didn’t respect others ideas. That was because my facial expressions may have been false from my thoughts. An example was during the first book club and I didn’t agree with someone’s ideas. What I was doing was trying to piece together what they were thinking inside of my head. But, my facial expression may have looked like I was discouraging or giving a look that I didn’t agree with the other person and I was saying it in a mean way. I improved on that by trying to look positive or to have a facial expression that showed that I didn’t agree, but I knew what they were thinking. I can further improve on this by asking questions in a positive tone.

What did you think of your book club book choice? Would you recommend the book to others?

Point Blank, by Anthony Horowitz, is a story about trust and courage. That is shown all throughout the book and make perfect motifs. These motifs also make the book unique. The courage of a 14-year-old spy. It may seem that there would be no courage at all, but Alex Rider has been at gunpoint and had to jump over a train in this book, so there is a lot of courage. Trust is so apparent that it is mentioned multiple times in the book. The time I most remember is when on page 157 Alex whispers,” You have to trust me, Paul.” Sidenote, {Paul isn’t that important}. This shows trust because it says that trust can lead to life or death. That isn’t exactly shown right here, but if you read the book you will understand. The motifs are important because it makes this book a lot more enjoyable. When you find one, you feel like you can understand it look deeper into the book. Also, the motifs are visible, but not to the point that they are right in front of you. In contrast, Another reason is that it is short in sweet. That is important because I will remember all of this book, more than books that are long and the moments that the author wants the reader to remember or small moments that lead to something big later in the book, and most likely, series. That is important because then you are engaged in the story more because you remember every moment. An example was when I was working on my jots and it was easy for me to find quotable evidence. That shows that even days and weeks after I read something that it is still memorable to me after I finish later chapters or the book. However, there are some faults. The book was a little confusing at times. Like when Alex first arrived at a hotel near the academy, Point Blanc, and they dissected him after drugging him. It was very fast and came up in one of our book club conversations because I didn’t understand why it was so fast and in a random spot and neither did my book club members. Also, Alex can sometimes make poor decisions. An example is when he is shutting down a place where 🤬 are made and stops them with a CRANE and decides to hand them to the police, but drops the drug place into a building where an occasion is happening. Fortunately, he didn’t 🤬 anyone and stopped the drug place. But, he put lives at risk and destroyed a building. That shows that Alex may be smart at times, but can be very risky. Finally, I would recommend Point Blanc to others because it is intriguing, is short and sweet, and has the stuff to improve for the next Alex Rider book.

What advice can you give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs?

The advice I would give to classmates as we move to a new round of book clubs is to have good cooperation. When you can’t speak confidently and safely with the people in your book club it is hard to succeed and makes it a nightmare. It happened to me and made me scared about the next book club. Also, being able to speak with your book clubs is part of the speaking and listening rubric. That shows that not being able to have good conversations not only affects your current status but also your grades. Another piece of advice is to set good book club norms. The book club norms are the rules of the book club. So, if you chose norms that are: confusing, unclear, and make the book club harder than it is hard to succeed. For comparison, if a sport has weird rules that no one can understand then no one will play that sport because you don’t know what to do. So, if you make your book club norms: unclear, confusing, and make the book club harder than you will be affected negatively. The final advice I can give to classmates is to try your hardest. When you don’t give it your all or try your hardest, it shows. It is apparent because everyone knows that you can do better because they know you and know how hard you can work and if you just treat this as a joke, it shows. It shows because you have a lot less information about whatever you are teaching and it doesn’t make any sense. That causes the people around you to lose trust in you because they don’t think anything of you and when you do try your book club will notice. Also, if you try your hardest you get rewarded. You can get good grades and make the people around you proud. Finally, my advice to my classmates for the next book club is to have good conversations, chose good norms, and most importantly try your hardest.

In my book club we were reading the book called Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine

The roles that I did well or easier for me, was the speaker, teacher. I did well on this because for the teacher role I always brought up good evidence to support the persons lesson plan that they may have not had. I always helped them if they did. I always kept people on track if they started to get off track. I was also a good speaker because I stated my lesson plans clearly and I spanked my opinion and other good evidence to support the lesson plans. Whenever I was talking I talked clearly and loudly so I could get my point through.

Although I had some easir goals I had some challenging roles. One of my

challenging roles was, writer. Although I did amazing on my lesson plans I had some trouble going back and finding the right evidence because I didn’t mark the pages and also most of the lesson plans I waited last minute to do so that was challenging.

We set these norms because so everyone takes this learning opportunity seriously and everyone’s learning is at stake if not following the norms. Also because we have rules to follow and to show that it is not a free for all. My group followed them great. Sometimes we could get off track but that was once out of the four book clubs we had. I also know we followed these norms because, we always did our best work when we did our lesson plans an we always had attentive listening when others our taking/showing their lesson plans. The day before our book clubs meetings we would always remind each others. Overall I followed our norms along with the rest of our group.

I loved our book it was amazing it was filled with emotions! In Caitlin’s world, everything is black or white. Things are good or bad. Anything in between is confusing. That’s the stuff Caitlin’s older brother, Devon, has always explained. But now Devon’s dead, and her father cries a lot. Caitlin wants to get over it, but as an eleven-year-old girl with Asperger’s, she doesn’t know how. When she reads the definition of “closure” in the dictionary, she realizes that is what she and her father need. In her search for Closure, Caitlin discovers that not everything is black and white--the world is full of colors--messy and beautiful, and it is through this discovery that she embarks on a road which leads her to find both healing and closure. The author kept you reading. I would totally recommend it to friends and everyone else who loves to read about sadness, and journeys to overcome sadness. It is an amazing book and an emotional roller coaster for caitlin with helping with her dad. !0 out of 10 recommend.

Advice I would give is not to do the lesson plan the night before the book club meeting and also to put sticky notes in important parts of the books and you think that these parts may be helpful in the future when doing lesson plans or doing a timeline or something like that! I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars.

My roals for book club was the leader, a listener, a teacher,a speaker, and a reader. I do a good job on my lesson plans and I am good at having good conversations. In my lesson plans I include my evidence, sometimes I forget the page numbers, I have my bend that I am doing, I have my teaching point, and I have my analysis every time.

Book Club Padlet Draft

(1). For my book club the role that I took on really well was the listener. I would alway listen and let my peers say what they had to say. I was the one to start connecting what they said after explaining their teaching point. I was also the one trying to get them back on track if they got side-tracked or were doing something silly. (2). In the beginning of our unit, we set our norms. Our norms were you had to complete your reading that was assigned, don’t lie about your reading, finish weekley jots/teaching points, listen attentively, mutual respect while others are talking, keep track of book club supplies, and come prepared. Everyone set norms so we had specific rules to follow and if you don’t follow that then there will be conferences. Our group followed the norms really well. Our group being all boys I expected a little less (not saying I wasn’t confident). When others were talking we would listen. We would try the best of our ability to catch up if we were slacking and much more. (3). Our book club choice was actually very interesting and left us wanting to read the sequel. Our book was The House of the Scorpion by: Nancy Farmer. The book actually caught me by surprise because I didn’t know exactly what to expect. The book then took a turn and was great. I would recommend this book to everyone to experience Matt’s adventure. (4). Once we start our new book clubs the advice I have is stay the same. What I mean is obviously we’re not going to be with the people but if your book club was great last time it should hopefully be great this time. You’re doing the same exact thing, all your doing is reading a book. Just this time it’s a different type and were going to be discussing different topics. I really enjoyed my book club the first time around and I hope my second is even better!

For my book club book, we read “ Mockingbird” By Kathryn Erskine. In my book club, we had some roles that we need to follow. One role that was easier for me was the speaker and the teacher. These ones were eseair because when I'm talking I know that you have to take your time and you have to speak clearly so people can understand you and what you are saying. Another thing that made it easier to talk was that no one in my group said anything much when I was to mess up or when reading a quote I messed up they just keep listening and asking questions. I also was good at teaching. I thought that I was good because when I would talk about my teaching point or read a quote I would ask a question and this would make the kids listing have to really think and this would show if they read or not.

We also had group norms and group norms are where you have “rules”> We had “rules” because we wanted to make sure that we stayed on task and to make sure that we had our reading done and are lesson plan done on time some of my group norms were:

Always finish your work, do your best, stay on task, attentive listening, and . I followed these by getting my reading done a day or two early and getting my lesson plan done and printed a day ahead or the night of. As I just said before we read “ Mockingbird” By Kathryn Erskine . This book was really good overall if you like more of a sad book and like to have a book that is very meaning full and can impact your life than this book would be a great book for you.

I know in the next few weeks we are going to be getting into new book clubs for our nonfiction unit. This is going to be fun because most of us have probably never done a book club like this. We all need to remember to stay on task and take your time because this is everyone's first time so we are all are kinda on the same page... If we all do this then we can get lots more work done in the time that we have.

What roles did I do well?

One of the roles I think I did well on was being the teacher. I did well being the teacher because I asked the other members of my book club if they understood my lesson or if they had a different perspective of how I was seeing it. Another role I did well on was being the reader. I did well on being the reader because I could find pieces of evidence that worked perfectly with my lesson plan. I also got all of my reading done on time with my lesson plans. I also did well on being a writer and speaker. I know I did well on those things because when I was reading all of my evidence from the book that I wrote down on my paper, I was speaking loud and clear so that the rest of my book club could hear me. Listening was of the roles I could not really comprehend because some of my book club members would not speak loudly and I would have to ask them what they said again politely.

	Why did we set norms?

We set norms, so everyone knew what was required for that week.

During this book club I had many different roles some were hard and some were simple. Some of the more simple roles for me were being a reader, speaker and leader these are the roles I felt I was most confident in and I think I did well in. The other two Listener, writer were A little more difficult for me when having to sit for a long time listening to other people talk but not being able to share your opinion is hard for me. When writing my lesson sometimes it was hard for me to understand how to word things, and that was on of the main thing that would frustrate me when writing.

At the start of the book clubs our groups set norms to help have a goal throughout the book club. Every day before our book club we would go over our norm so we knew what was expected of our when we were sharing and when other s where sharing. One thing that I wish I would of put on the norm is no talking when someone else is talking or no shouting out because sometimes my group was very talkative and it took us way longer to get through it. Overall my book club did very good at following the norms.

In my book club the book we chose was touching spirit bear by: Ben Mikaelsen. This book had a lot of different tones and moods which made it very exciting. This book is one book that keeped me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This is a book that might make some people uncomfortable which I can see but for other people like me I love the book so I depends on what kind of person you are, otherwise I would recommend this book to everyone.

When we move to our nonfiction book clubs and if we get to pick I suggest that we pick people that we know we work well with but also people that you are friends with, also pick someone with the same or similar reading level. But also we want to have fun.

During book clubs, some of the easier roles for me were a reader, writer, teacher, listener, and speaker. Because reader was just reading and in class, I have time to do so. And I have time at home to read. Writer because it as I was reading I found some evidence for the teaching point. The teacher was reading what you wrote and add on to it, as well as your group members can add on to it when you're done! A listener was just listening to what your group members have to say about their teaching point, and speaker you just have to say what you teaching point was and the analysis.

We did the group norms because that would encourage people to do their work and know what to do. I followed the group norms by listening, participating and eye contact. I thought my book was ok. I kind of recommend the book roll of thunder hear my cry by Mildred D. Taylor. Some advice is to go part by part then do a teaching point and to always follow your norms.

I was strong in the listening, writing, teaching, and the leader role. I was always listening intently to what the people in my book club had to say. I was a strong leader with my book club and always kept things moving smoothly as well as always having my work done to set a good example. I was also a good teacher. When I was presenting my teaching point I felt that the people listening agreed with my ideas as well as saw things from a different view when I was done. I felt that I was a good writer and that I always expressed my ideas carefully and made sure that everything made sense along with getting good evidence to support my ideas.

Something I wasn't the best at was reader. I wasn't always looking back at my book to show direct evidence and I wasn't the best at it either. If I could redo my book club, I would definitely go back to my book to show evidence. The other thing I wasn't the best at was speaking. Sometimes I would cut people off or I would not have the right words to say about my topics when speaking.

My norms were one of the best things. They kept our book club on the right track the whole time and made sure everyone was being respectful and polite to everyone else.

Overall, I really enjoyed my book and book club. Everybody was always attentively listening and making sure that their ideas were well expressed. I loved the book. It taught many great lessons and I would definitely recommend it to anybody that needs to read or just needs something to do. Overall, ***** stars.

Book Club Final Reflection Padlet

In my book club, The House of the Oreos, each person in our club had to be a reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker and a leader. I believe I was all these roles because my work says otherwise. The roles which were easy for me or what I did well on is the reader, writer listener, speaker, and leader. The role reader was easy for me because I always read to whatever chapter we had to for the week and I also never fell behind in reading or went ahead. The role writer was also easy for me because I always completed my weekly jots filling them with evidence and analyzation. Mrs.Reuter always told me that my jots were excellent each week of book clubs. The roles listener and the speaker were easy for me because I always listen to my fellow book club members and try to understand the lesson plan they have prepared for me and my other book club members. I am a good speaker because while listening to my book club members, I ask a question and add on to their examples to keep the conversation going. I also was a good speaker when I was a teacher teaching my lesson plan. But, I will talk about that later. Finally, I think I am a great leader for my group. I think that because whenever my group got a little off-track, I would ask them politely if we could continue and they all would listen to me. Sometimes, if no one wanted to share their lesson plan first, I would go to get the book club meeting started. The role that was a little challenging for me, in the beginning, is the teacher role. In the first book club, l had many questions running through my head like if my lesson plan was good enough, or if my paper was filled with enough evidence. While teaching I got a little nervous while teaching but as the meeting progressed, I got more confident and started teaching excellently through the rest of the meeting we had.

Every book club in Mrs. Reuters room set norms at the beginning of our book clubs because then only there will be rules and discipline during the book club meetings. If we didn’t set norms, everyone in the club will not know what to do and will get off-track and goof off. So I believe the norms were there to make rules in book clubs and also to make the club more disciplined and more ready for learning. I believe my group followed the norms completely well every single book club. Some of the norms we had were come prepared, mutual respect, attentive listening. We had much more but as always, we always followed them and had respect for one another. In the end, I have to say that the norms helped my group have respect for one another.

The book The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer is an excellent book. If you like a mystery book with full of surprises and jaw-dropping events, this is the book for you. I would definitely recommend this book to others because the book is just so good! I would rate this book 5/5. This book is an excellent and exciting book that is filled with different adventures for you to find.

For our next unit of book club, we are doing a non-fiction unit book club. Some advice I want to give to my classmates is to enjoy reading and also keep the conversation boring. Make your lesson plans into discussions so everyone can get involved. It will get boring if each of you just shares your lesson plan and leave it just like that. Make your lesson plans into discussions. Have fun during your book club but at the same time, be productive as well. That’s the advice I have for my classmates next book club.

I took on many roles during book club the roles that were the easiest for me were a reader, teacher, listener, and speaker. These were the easiest for me because I have done all these roles before. The easiest one out of these four was probably reading because all you have to do is read the assigned chapters. One of the harder ones for me out of these four was listening because sometimes the teacher would ask you questions that you didn’t know the answer to.

Some of the roles that were challenging me were writer and leader. These two were hard for me because I have not done them before. It was hard to be a writer because sometimes you would read to many pages and you didn’t know what to write about. I have never really been the leader of a book club before and I didn’t really know what to do. Everyone would say that since you are the leader you have to go first, but what if you didn’t want to because you wanted to hear other people’s ideas first.

At the beginning of the book club, we set norms. We set norms so that everyone would have an idea of what was expected of the group. We also set norms so that everyone could be reminded of what to do. My book club followed the norms very well. A few of our group norms were did everyone complete the assigned pages, did everyone do the lesson plan, and everyone participates. Most of the time everyone had their lesson plan complete but, it wasn’t good enough to be turned in.

Our book was Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children. At first, I didn’t want to read that book because that was the third option that I wanted to read. But, it turned out to be a really good book. I would recommend this book because it was really suspenseful and very jaw-dropping. This book is about a 16-year-old boy named Jacob. His grandpa told him a bunch of stories and now that his grandpa is dead he is wondering if they are true. Jacob goes to the island his grandpa talks about and uncovers a bunch of secrets his grandpa didn’t tell him. Jacob goes on a journey of a lifetime and who knows if he will ever come back.

Which roles did you do well or were easier for you? Which roles were challenging for you? I had to become many different roles in my book club. The roles I found easier were being the reader, the teacher, the listener, and the leader. These roles were easier because they came naturally to me and felt fun to do. The roles I found most challenging were being the speaker and the writer. I felt these were the most challenging were becoming the writer and the speaker. I felt that the writer was challenging because the instructions that came with it were a bit confusing at first, but I was able to overcome this and make my lesson plans strong. I felt that the speaker was challenging because I tend to talk quickly and rushed. I also don’t pause many times while I was sharing or speaking.

Why did we set norms? How well did you follow the group norms? We set norms for our book clubs because it helped all of the group members and made sure that our book club was efficient and we all knew what to do and the rules for our book club. Our group followed our norms well, we respected each other, listened, and made sure we got our work done.

What did you think of your book club book choice? Would you recommend the book to others? For my book club book, I read Point Blank. I liked the book, but I didn’t like the ending. I didn’t know that the book was a series so the ending was a cliffhanger, so I would recommend the book, but only if you are interested in reading the entire series.

What advice can you give to classmates as they move to a new round of book clubs? Never ever wait until the last minute to do your lesson plan. It becomes very stressful and tiring. You will end up doing a bad job and have to re-do it again. So do it earlier rather than late. Like my 5th-grade teacher used to say, “Do it nice or do it twice.” So, I would recommend doing it better than throwing something together. You will also irritate other group members because of this. Everyone else putting so much work into their lesson plan, and you putting yours together in 5 minutes.

During the Deep Study of Character Book Clubs, I feel like I did

well on being a reader because I always read to the designated point and no further. During the Deep Study of Character Book Clubs, I feel like I did well on being a good listener because I didn’t interrupt anyone while they were talking and I didn’t rudely disagree with anyone if I did disagree I said it politely. During the Deep Study of Character Book Clubs, I feel like I did poorly on being a teacher because I didn’t ask for them to turn o the page and didn’t ask what they thought of the evidence, I also had trouble getting the point I meant across. During the Deep Study of Character Book Clubs I feel like I did poorly on being a leader because when it was my turn to teach my teaching point ( when I was leading them through my teaching point) I often couldn’t get my point across and re-touched on what the others said, or I would add to what they said.

I believe that our group set norms at the beginning of book clubs because we need a bit of a guideline that is expected from all of us. I also felt that reading the norms off at the beginning of book clubs got me all calmed down and reading to focus and pay attention. Norms also help us know what we are expected from everyone so that we are not going in completely blind.

During the Deep Study of Character Book Clubs, we read the book “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen. I would definitely recommend this book to girls or boys because it touches on a lot of subjects and even makes you sometimes think deeper about your life. This is an amazing book for anyone who likes action, “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen actually teaches a lot of good life lessons and even has amazing symbolism.

The advice that I can give to my classmates as they move onto a new book club is to not wait until the last minute to read or do your work. You are much better off doing your work sooner so that you don't have to worry about it the morning of the assignment. Another thing I would recommend is to ask questions if you are confused because if you just sit still the whole time you will get nothing done and often get the question wrong.

Being the teacher was hard because when it’s your turn to teach it feels like all the pressure is on you. I think we set norms so that we would have rules to follow by and I did once not do what I was suppose to and I will remember to do better next time. My book club book I would recommend to people because it teaches things that I can’t explain but the book can.

I think I was a good book club partner, first I think I was a good reader because I got the book read every time and I really read it so I would understand it. Something I could do better is actually soak in when the author's big lesson was which would help me a lot better with my lessons. This is why I think I am a good reader. Secondly, I am a good listener because I really engage in what they are saying and I give them good attentive listening and give eye contact and nodded my head. I am a good speaker because I ask them questions about the lesson and make them open up their books to the page. I also think I am a good leader because I asked them questions to make sure they knew what I was saying and I repeated my thing over and over again. This is how I was a good leader. Lastly, I was a good writer because I gave the quote in the story to prove evidence. Also, I really wanted the reader to understand better. That what I was good in on my lessons. Wells et norms together because we wanted to make our lessons go smooth and force everyone to be respectful. Something I did well with was that for most of my meetings I did the norms but for one I forgot and was not responsible and missed one. that's norms. For the book Zach's lie I would recommend it for people who don't really want a simple book and want action. I would rate it 3 stars out of 5. I would give advice to them by telling them to make sure the book is not to easy but a little of a challenge. Also, make sure your group is a reliable one.

In our Book club unit, we each had roles such as: reader, writer, teacher, listener, speaker, and leader, and some of the roles I did well were a teacher, reader, speaker, and a listener, for example, when I had to teach my group I made my thinking clear for them so they could understand clearly. Another example was, I always read what I had to read to write my lesson. Another example is when I had to speak, I was loud and clear so my group could understand me and I also wasn’t afraid to speak when I had an idea. The last example is listener, when my group members were speaking, I listened while they were talking to understand their argument and to get the information I needed. The role that was challenging for me was the writing part because I had to redo the first two.

In the start of our Book club unit, we set norms. Some of our norms were: listen to everyone’s ideas, make eye contact, always do your work, be honest if you read or not, be respectful, and read what you have to read, and we did those norms so we could govern individual behaviors in the group. I think that the book I selected for our Book club unit was better than I thought is was going to be, and I recommend it to anyone who likes books with suspense and family. Finally, as we start our nonfiction Book club unit, my advice is that try to not write the same theme or motif because now that it is nonfiction instead of fiction. The nonfiction will probably have less hidden things.

My partner and I just finished the book “Among the Betrayed” by Margaret Peterson Haddix, some of the roles I did well in were reader, listener and, speaker. I was a good reader because after every book club meeting I would get right to reading, when my partner was talking about their teaching point would listen then after I would ask questions if I didn’t understand and, when it was my turn to say my lesson plan I spoke clearly, made eye contact with my partner and, I proved my point. A role that was challenging for me was the teacher and leader part because I can’t create new ideas out of one of the old ideas.

My partner and I made a sheet of norms because we wanted to set goals for ourselves, my partner and I followed are norms 100%, for example, we didn’t argue, we didn’t goof around and, we had mutual respect.

I really liked are book and I would recommend this book because of the great setting, characters, theme and, the adventure in this book.

When we start non-fiction book clubs, I think that you should be well prepared, don’t goof off, give good evidence and, a good analysis.

A role that I thought was easier is listener, reader, and speaker. Because I thought that it came out easier. One thing I thought that was harder was a teacher because you would have to write and make sure it made sense and it was a strong teaching point. Group norms are important because it shows that you need to have good behaviors in a group and we need to take things seriously. Also I along with my group followed all of the group norms and stayed on task. I thought that it was a good idea to have chosen this book because it is very good and I liked it. I would recommend it to people because it was a complex book. Some advice that I will share is in are new round of book clubs is don’t wait for the last minute

One role that was easy and hard to me was the leader because you have to go first which is actually good because if your nervous you could get it over with quick and the lead role is hard because you have to direct everyone and you’re the one who should take charge.
Another role that I thought was hard is the speaker because you have to speak and if you’re shy this will not be a good role for you.

We had simple but good norms, we followed them very well and we didn’t break even one.
One norm we had is read your book this is an example of a simple norm but we still didn’t break it we all read and you can tell by what they’re saying and because another norm is be honest so they would be breaking two norms if they said they read and they didn’t.
I’m reading Counting By 7’s and I would recommend this book because the complex characters and the way the story was made with all of the emotions including, Sadness, Happiness and even selfishness
One piece of advice for non-fiction is that you should always be honest and never lie to the group because if they find out you didn’t read they will tell the teacher and you’ll have a massive fine.

We just completed our Deep study of character book clubs. During the course of these book clubs I took on many roles, such as speaker, listener, and teacher. I found the listener role to be the easiest, because all you have to do is make sure you are processing what the speaker is saying, and you really can’t mess up on listening. Our norms for our group were quite honestly pretty basic norms, and it was hard to break them because of their simplicity. One norm, was respect for others, this may be a basic one, but it had a huge impact on our group, Because without respect, you and your group would not be very successful. And it would be hard to function well if you all had zero regard for other people’s well being and happiness. We read the book “Among the Betrayed”. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure. When we start our non-fiction book clubs, I would recommend that you keep up with the reading, and get all of your book club work done on time. This will not only help you be happier and do better in your classes, but it will also help your group be more successful.
