"it's like a bee sting
(ouch!)
He just swished
in your face
stung you like
a can of mace
These boys so fly
they're outta space!" (Alexander 6).
This is an example of similes and metaphors. It compares the basketball players skills to other things such as a bee sting. It helps me see their game like a scout looking over a team. I think the author used this in the passage to show how important these similes and metaphors are to describe something. I also think the author used them to make the book more interesting and to describe the way the people are playing basketball.

"He just Swished
In your Face
Stung you Like
A Can of Mace
These Boys So Fly
They're outa Space!"
(Alexander 6).

This is an example of both similes and metaphors. It makes me visualize a game of basketball, where one team is destroying the other team, and there is really no competition between the teams. The author added the similes and metaphors, because he wanted to help the reader visualize the game, and how the team is playing. The similes and metaphors may also be referencing how Charlie Bell likes to read comics, and imagine himself as a muscular superhero who is afraid of nothing, or as a great basketball player who never misses a shot.

It makes me feel like i'm in the person's position watching that ball go swoosh in the hoop standing there like I could have done nothing to stop it. The author added this to help people visualize what is going on and show a better picture of the "Burn" that it left on the other players. It also helps relate the character to yourself in a way that you can understand what is going on from personal experience.

"Her nostril flares up
her left eyebrow lifts-the look
whens she's about to trip out"
(Alexander 47).

This is an example of interesting word choice. The author could have used a different word, but he chose flare. I think he chose that because it shows more how mad his mom is, we have all seen are moms very mad so it betters shows us how mad she is. It helps us be put in Chuck's shoe which is the whole goal of the book.
