North Africa has seen many wars and conflicts within the continent’s countries that have cause communities to change religion or change their culture because of the country that is in power over the North African communities. But how has the conflict affected culture and other parts of North African life?

The culture in North Africa has changed many times over the years, however it has mostly been a blend of many different cultures and religions all put together creating something new. Because of this when North African countries are in conflict or war and are concurred the country that concurred them will often enforce the North African country to adopt their beliefs and this will cause cultures to change due to the change in the controlling power (Mitchell 12).

An example of conflict changing culture is the Algerian War of Independence that lasted 18 years and ended with the French signing a ceasefire agreement. (Britannica)

During 1954-1962 The Bloody Algerian War of Independence was a very common reoccurring theme for most book written (Mitchell 63).

Due to the amount of times North Africa was colonized and conquered their architecture and culture has changed many times and because of this their architecture has been shaped by the many invaders that have had over the many years (Mitchell 30).

How has conflict between North Africa countries affected other countries?

Algeria and Morocco have had a long ongoing conflict with one another that started with an unsuccessful attempt at conjoining into one.

This conflict between Algeria and Morocco has started to spread into other countries nearby due to fighting breaking out again in the Western Sharan desert, breaking the 30 year long ceasefire in late 2020 (International Crisis Group).

North Africa has undergone lots of change due to war and conflict and the culture has been molded and shaped because of that making North African culture a very diverse and broad culture. The conflict has also made the architecture and other aspects of North Africa change and shift into being more like countries that conquered them and as North African countries have been conquered by many their culture is very wide and very diverse.
