In the text it says, "Five inestimable blessings his head, his wife Marias head, and the heads of their four children," (Achebe398). This shows that the conflict and the story itself begins with Joanthans way of life after facing war, made him grateful for what he has.

The conflict that sets the scene for this story is that it was set just after a war that happened in the country where the main story takes place. In "Civil Peace" Jonathan claims "He had just came out of war with five inestimable blessings his head, his wife Maria's head, and the heads of three out of their four children."(Achebe 389). This shows that war was set right before this story takes place and Jonathan is very grateful for the outcome that most of his family stayed alive from the war. Also it explains the traumatic affect a war can set a scene with how grateful Johnathan is.

The conflict that sets the scene for the story "Civil Peace" is the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War. The war left the country with destroyed homes and plenty of ruined things (Achebe 390). This illustrates how Jonathan thought it was a miracle that he still had his house and bicycle, since so many people have lost their homes, meaning the destruction from the war and Jonathan's struggle to rebuild his life is the larger conflict.

The type of people that showed up to Jonathan's door were a large group of thieves, the thieves demanded 100 pounds, Jonathan gave them 20 since he doesn’t have 100. In the text, the author writes, “ ‘Awright! We know say you no get plenty money. But we sef no get even anini. So therefore make you open dis window and give us one hundred pound and we go commot’ “ (Achebe 393). The evidence provided supports my answer since this dialog between the thieves and Jonathan show their intentions with the family. Jonathan also seemed to have negotiated some sort of peace with the thieves for them to be acting a bit friendly toward him, as they do not show much hostility in their dialog.

Jonathan and his family wake up and begin to do their daily activities, his wife cooking akara balls and his eldest son rinsing out dregs of palm-wine. Jonathan expresses nonchalance at his sympathizers, telling them that the egg-rasher didn’t matter, as his family is no longer in danger. In the text, the author writes, “At the first sign of light as neighbors and others assembled to commiserate with him as he was already strapping his five-gallon demijohn to his bicycle carrier” (Achebe 394). The evidence provided supports my answer since it tells how Jonathan carried on with his day after the robbery, while his neighbors expressed their sympathy towards his loss of money.

Jonathan and his family get back to their normal routine after being robbed. Though this might feel weird Jonathan gives his reason "What is egg-rasher? Did I depend on it last week?"(394,Achebe) To Jonathan it did not really mean much since what cares more about is the safety of his family. So losing that money might have sucked but wasn't devastating.

The morning after Jonathan and his family were robbed, Jonathan was just thankful his family was safe and no one got hurt (Achebe 394). This illustrates how even after the robbery, Jonathan didn't let it defeat him and he worked just as hard.

The people who come to Jonathan's door are a group of thieves, and they demand money. In the text it says, "So derefore you make open dis window and give us one hundred pound and we go commot." (Achebe 392). This shows that there were multiple thieves who robbed from Jonathan and wanted money from him.

The conflict of the story is a war that is happing in Nigeria and Jonathan is just happy that he still has his family with hime even though the war was very destructive. The writer states that jhonthan made it out the war blessed with his family "He had come out of the war with five inestimable blessings-his head, his wife Maria's head and the heads of three out of there four children." (Achebe 389) This states that the war is a going conflict in the story but he is blessed to make out alive.

The text says"Na tief-man and him people," (Achebe 393) which clearly states that there are thieves that showed up. Later on they ask for 100 pounds from Jonathan and his family.

What Jonathan and his family do the morning after they are robbed is go back to their normal routines acting like nothing had happened. The text says," “Jonathan was already at work with his bicycle and his wife with her cooking pots, and the children with their picking of mangoes” ( Achebe 394). This proves that they didn't let the robbery defeat them and kept moving forward.

The morning after Jonathan and his family are robbed, everything seems normal. The text states " . . . he was already strapping his five-gallon demijohn with his bicycle carrier and his wife, sweating in the open fire, was turning over akara balls in a wide clay bowl of boiling oil," (Achebe 380). Jonathan and his family simply continued on with life doing their chores.
