If you cannot express your main idea in a single sentence you probably are not defining it clearly enough.
2. Know your subject- it is better to stay in your seat than reveal your ignorance by not being prepared.
3. Don't leave "question and answer" periods up to chance, anticipate potential questions and think through potential answers ahead of time.
4. Work on your speaking voice by recording yourself and listening to it over and over. You can change your speaking voice by learning to alter tone, depth, and likability.
5. The tone of your voice can affect your message. Deeper tones signify power and confidence in your message.
6. Practice makes perfect when it comes to delivery. Practice in front of a mirror to perfect your posture, gestures, etc. or even take an introductory acting class to shed self consciousness
7. Don't be afraid to speak out and speak loudly when giving a presentation. Make your audience listens to you by captivating them with your voice-50% of people in most audiences suffer a form of hearing loss
8. The most important way to hold an audiences attention is to show how your message relates to their indiduals needs and concerns
9. Do not be afraid to be authentic and humanize yourself by sharing personal stories (as long as they relate to the message)
10. Always be humble and don't try and portray yourself as something you are not. If you are nervous about presenting, admitting to your audience that you are and asking for their patience could prove the best method.

Additional Link:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/susantardanico/2012/05/29/want-to-be-a-better-public-speaker-do-what-the-pros-do/#70df725e4307
