Moving for the 1st time as a kid

Experience: When I was in the 4th grade, near the end of my school year I was told that we had to move. In my school district I was unhappy, and was more excited to know that I didn't have to go to that school anymore.

Believe: There are better opportunities in new places.

Action: I made a better effort in school.

Result: I met a lot of students that were like me and didn't judge me based on the color of my skin.

Moving to Houston

Experience: I moved to Houston when I was starting high school during 2020, and found it to be harder to make friends as well as do good in school.

Believe: I have no one, what's the point of trying.

Action: I didn't try in school because I felt that there was no reason to, and didn't think I was going to make it.

Result: I almost failed freshman year, and had a hard time trying to build my GPA back up.

Losing friends

Experience: When I was in my junior year and my senior year, I had to cut people out of my life that seemed to make it worse. I didn't want them to leave but weren't good for me in the long run.

Believe: People grow apart, and people can hold you back.

Action: Stopped talking to some of the most important people in my life and felt helpless and guilty that we didn't make it.

Result: I became happier in the end, and focused on those who actually cared about me.

Fight

Experience: I got into a find my sophomore year of high school during a basketball game.

Believe: People can control your emotions if you let them.

Action: I was ejected from the game and had to leave for the rest of the night. I started losing connection with my teammates, and respect from my coach.

Result: I was suspended for the rest of the season.

Injury

Experience: After getting suspended, I had built up the trust to play with my team again, as soon as I got in, I tore my ACL and meniscus.

Believe: Nothing ever goes right for me.

Action: Took the healthing time to both improve my physical and mental health.

Result: I stopped doing the things that made me unhappy, hanging with the people that made me unhappy, and healed by myself.

FROM: "Life isn't worth it"

TO: Life is worth it when you protect your peace.

All these experiences have the common thread of putting my energy into the wrong people, or not thinking I can ever change. When I was hit in the face with all of these, I soon found that I can pick and choose the path of my life, no matter where I am.
