Plenty of people in our world don't understand what others are going through. They float through life thinking that everyone has enough to eat, has a place to sleep, and has people who care about them. Unfortunately, that isn't true. To make the world a better place, we need to see the unmet needs of others, and show understanding and compassion by volunteering to address them.

Volunteering has always been an important thing to my family. We live in a safe community, I go to a safe school, and I am safe financially. From a young age my parents made it clear to me the more you give, the more you gain in happiness. Since freshman year I have been apart of a club at school called Wildcats united. We work on projects all over the community and the world. We recently created a food pantry for students and their families in our school. Because of this I have surrounded myself with people who have the same morals as me in this respect.

Physcologytoday.com states that the United States uses about one-half of its land for agriculture. Unfortunately, the majority is used to raise livestock, such as cattle, hogs, and poultry, or for crops consumed by livestock. For example, the U.S. uses over 90 million acres of good agricultural land to produce corn, which is mostly fed to livestock. Much of the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest is for grazing and growing soybeans, 80 percent of which is used as livestock feed. This just shows that the meat we produce and consume is destroying the ecosystems that we depend on for survival.
