Readers, Writers, Texts
1. Why and how do we study literature? Why do we study TTTC?

We study literature to educate ourselves and to learn from other's wisdom. We do this by reading their works with an intention of learning and growing from it. It also helps to have background context to what you might be reading. We study TTTC to get a new perspective and point of view of different global issues within this work that O'Brien wants the reader to be aware of. We do it to further expand out compassion and learning mindset.

2. How are we affected by literary texts in various ways? How are we impacted by TTTC?
We are not only affected in an educational way but also in an emotional way. Literature can be so powerful to a read to the point where it can change their whole life. It can force the reader to look deep within themselves and find a new way of living and how they view life. We are impacted by TTTC by the author giving us so much detail and imagery that it's almost like we experience a tiny bit of what these characters had to go through, and that is the most important part. It gives us empathy and compassion towards others.

3. In what ways is meaning constructed, negotiated, expressed and interpreted in TTTC?
Meaning is constructed, negotiated, expressed, and interpreted in TTTC with how the author chooses to format this story and their literary choices as well. It can make or break a story, and it is done so well that it makes us invest in it.

4. How does the structure of style of TTTC affect its meaning?
The structure affects its meaning because it allows us to be taken into the story and almost live in this world that O'Brien is describing to us. This ultimately causes us as the reader to not only see the meaning through an outside perspective but to also see it through the first person.

Why do you read and write stories? Write about a paragraph.
Humans read and write stories as a way to express ourselves, it can be a way of art and communication. I read and write stories to further educate and strengthen my mind. I also appreciate the author's techniques and choices that they make throughout the work. I also read and write when I want to learn or discuss global issues that I am interested in. Even if I am not familiar with the global issue I find it so interesting to read about it and to see things from different perspectives. We as humans also like to read and write to gain or express empathy. Once we read a heart touching story it encourages us to continue to explore for different types of literature that will make us feel emotion.

Linda Krumholz claims (in "The Ghosts of Slavery: Historical Recovery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved") that finding a voice for the thoughts and experiences of women is central to the "healing," historical recovery theme and structure of the book. According to Krumholz, Morrison’s novel "adapts techniques from modernist novels, such as the fragmentation of the plot and shifting narrative voice, to compel the reader to actively construct an interpretive framework" (109). How does the novel specifically address issues of gender, writing and power? How does the structure and style of the novel give voice to "the thoughts of the women of 124, unspeakable thoughts, unspoken" (Beloved 199)?

I believe that the novel specifically addresses the issues of gender through the writing style of going back and forth between present and past. The style of writing has a powerful impact on the readers by giving them context to the story line and making it all connect back together. The structure of this book gives the women of 124 a chance to speak their truth and to let the reader know exactly what there were thinking in that moment. It actually allows the reader to learn more about the female characters through this style of writing. It also adds a bit of clarity for the reader as to what the character was thinking.

Be detailed in how it connects with global issues and thematic and stylistic ideas to other works.
Persepolis connects to other works that we have read. For example, Beloved connects to Persepolis through the global issue of loyalty being persuaded by power. After the Shah lost their power and persuasion over the public, teachers and students started to rip out pages of the Shah out of their text books and take back the words that the Shah was chosen by God. Once, Satrapi points out that they are being hypocritical, they take out their anger on her and claim that Satrapi is believes in the statement of "the Shah was chosen by God".
