I feel like they definitely were good friends of each others and they all valued each other a lot. " i will not think about how Derrick finally escaped his skin, how Josie doesn't have to compete with Jadine anymore, or that Luther won't have to patiently smile through yet another basketball story, someone else reenacting his life."

True friends who care about your well being wouldn't let you continue to kill yourself like Mickey, Josie, Luther, and Derick all did to one another. On the other hand Luther on page 299 he told Mickey to be careful. Therefore, to me I feel as if he actually cared a little about Mickey's health.
Jalynn Herring

I think that Mickeys mothers statemnet was only partially true. I think that Derrick was kind of a friend but was just around becuase of Josie. Josie was not a friend they never just hung out or text each other because they liked each other they only talked or were around each other when they were doing drugs. However, I think that Luther was her friend. For example "Luther picks me up a few hours later, coming into the house and doing the whole meet-your-mom thing." ch. 33, pg. 245. If he didn't care about her and wasn't her friend he wouldn't go met her mom and stay and talk to her.

I do think that what Mickey's mom said is true about Derrick and Josie. But I also think Luther was somewhat of a friend, he was more concerned about her than Josie or Derrick ever was, and even though he was kind of her boyfriend, that still wasn't enough to get either of them to stop taking drugs. "Luther picks me up a few hours later, coming into the house and doing the whole meet-your-mom thing." ch. 33, pg. 245 Mickey's still worried though that without Oxy in her system that she won't be like she is with it and conversation will eventually stop and that it will become awkward which isn't something that usually happens when you're around friends.

I think that Mickey's mom was correct about that statement. If she would have never met Josie and Jadine she would have never started shooting up her veins. I don't really think they were her friends. The only one that really cared or was there was Luther always telling her to be safe and not to do it outside of Edith's. On pg.299 Luther says "You do what you want to do Mickey. I'm not judging you. Just be careful.", signifying that Luther was really the only one who cared for her and her health.

Because softball was the "one thing" in her life, she saw her value in if she could play better than everyone else.

At the end of Chapter 53, Mickey says coming clean is almost as good as heroin. Coming clean, confessing your sins, a sense of accountability, dealing with the consequences of your actions, and coming to peace with yourself helps a lot. Doing these things helps because it gets you out of that phase of regret, guilt, and anxiety after an event that has you feeling dreadful. Coming to peace relieves the soul. Coming clean about anything helps just about anybody.

I feel this helps her because she got everything out in the open and she doesn't have to hold anything in anymore or hide anything from anyone. Coming clean about stuff you've done feels great and makes you almost feel okay about what you've done rather than feeling guilty about the stupid things you've done especially when it comes to the things Mickey has done.

Finally coming clean released a lot of that pressure of hiding things and lying and put it all in the spot light. She put herself in a place where she could get help. I think coming clean like that could help a lot of people, but some might have the mentality like Mickey had, that coming clean would ruin everything, when in reality it would be the starting point of fixing a lot of problems.
