I was born in American Samoa but moved with my family to Ogden, Utah when I was 2 years old. My parents were both educators working in the Ogden School District. I served an LDS mission to Barcelona, Spain. I went to school at BYU and graduated with degrees in Psychology and a master's degree in exercise physiology. I competed professionally as a runner and came to BYU as an assistant coach in track and field and head coach of men's cross country. I was made the Director of Track and Field and Head Men's Cross Country Coach when the men's and women's programs were combined 8 years ago. I am married to Lynn who has a PhD. in clinical psychology and is an adjunct professor at BYU as well. We have 6 daughters, 4 of whom are married and one who will be soon serving a mission to Madrid Spain. I am grateful for this opportunity to better understand racism.

Greetings. I'm excited to be in this discussion and hope you are too. I was raised in a suburb of Los Angeles, CA called La Crescenta, where I lived until 1978 at which point I ventured off to Provo, UT for the experience of a lifetime as a student athlete at BYU. I feel blessed to have had many incredible relationships with many different kinds of people from whom I have gained valuable life lessons. Through this opportunity, I hope to continue learning how I can be a better friend, neighbor, ally, teammate and support to any and all people who could use my helping hand. Let's GO!

Hello! I grew up in Highland, Utah and have lived in Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, Alabama, and Indiana. I was a collegiate athlete and love the student-athlete experience. I decided to pursue a career in athletics because I wanted student-athletes to have a better experience than I did and feel truly valued, loved, and worthwhile. Through this experience, I hope to be able to expand my knowledge and understanding of how to build cultures of belonging and help student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators feel like they can be confident in their own identities.

Hello! I was born and raised in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where racial differences were not very well respected. I have lived in California, Oregon and here in Utah. I also served a mission in Costa Rica and Panama where I experienced beautiful diversity and culture. I am the department manager for the Department of Educational Leadership in the McKay School. I am interested in participating here because I have been learning more about the terms "racist" and "racism" over the past year and a half, and I want to continue that education. My goal is to better understand the experience of those who feel undervalued and disrespected in our community... mostly so that I can love others more perfectly.

I am thrilled to have the chance to be part of this! I was born/raised in Las Vegas, NV and spent time in Reno for undergrad, then San Francisco for grad school. I spent ten years as a middle school English teacher in Las Vegas and moved to Provo in 2019 to do the same thing, while being closer to family. I am the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee Chair for the Provo City School District and incredibly proud to be a small part of helping to make Provo a safer and more welcoming place for all to live. I began my anti-racist journey in earnest in March 2020, and am regretful it took me this long, but happy to be here now. I know that it is my job to help dismantle white supremacy and build a more anti-racist world. I look forward to this experience!

I grew up white, Mormon, strait and male in Sandy, Utah, in the 80s. All I knew was the privilege that came from those identities until much later in life when we adopted two black children. No question, their life experience is entirely different than my own. I reflect back on how blind I was to race and diversity while a student back at BYU, and how at the time I would enjoy "ethnic experiences" in our travels. Now my wife and I help transracial adoption families like our learn about race, racism and how to address systemic inequities. Glad to participate!
