From one of my favorite book series (Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi), the main character, Juliettte Ferrars is silenced and isolated in the beinning of the series. She is sent to an asylum for years because of her lethal touch. Her own family disowned and abandoned her. Later in the series, she discovers the truth and how she been lied to and manipulated. Her truth is what shatters the Reestablishment (the government) in the books. What we can learn from Juliette is the power of self-discovery and the fear to find one's voice and how vulnerability can be turned into strength.

The first person to come to mind, that we all know, is Martin Luther King Jr. He is known for his moral philosophies, speaking his truth and leading the civil rights movement for African Americans. Technically he wasn't silenced but I believe he was silenced through his assassination. They killed him during the peak of the civil rights movement when we were finally seeing change throughout the country and because there was no way to silence him and stop the advancements of the civil rights movement, they killed him. They killed him to stop the advancements he was making for his people and his followers, and by the leader of the movement they hoped that it would silence his followers as well but his philosophy lived on through all of his followers.

The first person I thought of who was silenced was Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was primarily known to be the 16^th president of the United States of America. More importantly he was known to have signed the Emancipation Proclamation which altered the focus of the Civil War to abolishing slavery. He was then sadly silenced when he was assassinated by someone who wanted to stop him from granting citizenship and voting rights to African Americans. One of the most important things that we learned from President Lincoln is the importance of sticking to your morals like he did by continuing to advocate for change despite facing immense opposition.

Greta Thunberg is an amazing example of someone who has been silenced. Greta Thunberg is a young girl from Sweden who has been actively speaking about and protesting for climate change. She gained national spotlight around 2018 when she planned a walk out protest at a school to bring attention to issues regarding climate change. Since this she has only spoken out more, not limiting herself to climate issues. She has actively spoken out against wars, the use of fossil fuels, and the expansion of a coal mine. She has been arrested countless times, affectively silencing her for a time, as she couldn't communicate while detained. The amount of fines she has gotten can be seen as people higher than her trying to silence her, by making her words cost money. Every time she is charged or detained they may hope is scares her enough to step away from these issues and keep silent. She never does though, instead she continues to fight for our beliefs, not letting anything get in the way of her speaking up for what is right. She shows us to never stop fighting for the right thing, and just because there may be roadblocks in your path, to never give up. We learn so much from her resilience everyday, and everyday that she continues to speak out, we learn more.

One notable person from history that I thought of is Malala Yousafzai, an advocate for girls' education. She lived in Pakistan, where the Taliban had banned girls from attending school. From a young age, she began speaking out and writing about her experiences. In 2012, she was shot in the head by a gunman for the Taliban, in an attempt to silence her voice. However, she survived and continued speaking out on a global scale. This teaches us that courage in the face of violence and oppression is powerful. Her story teaches us that one voice can make a difference, and the fight for equality is worth it.

As someone who likes Greek Mythology when thinking about someone who was silenced I think about the ancient Greek myth about Cassandra. Cassandra was a Trojan priestess who was cursed by Apollo to speak true prophecies that nobody would believe. This is an early example of how women are constantly silenced by society, stripped of their credibility, therefore silenced as nobody would ever believe her prophecies. In my opinion one thing we can learn from this tragic story is that history will shed light onto stories that people in that time will not be able to appreciate. So we can think about our world right now in a different way, what stories will be held up, and which will be deviled.

Katniss Everdeen is known as the "Girl on Fire" and the symbol of the rebellion in The Hunger Games. She became a voice of truth by exposing the Capitol's cruelty and inspiring hope in people who felt powerless. However, she was often silenced by the Capitol through threats, propaganda and even the safety of her family against her. At that time, the rebellion tried to control her voice by turning her into a symbol, rather than letting her speak for herself. Even when she was under pressure, Katniss showed that actions can speak louder than words, and her courage was proved stronger than any attempt to silence her. From her we learn that resilience and bravery are powerful tools in the fight against injustice and that even one person's determination can inspire and give strength to entire communities and in this case districts.

The first person I think of is Martin Luther King Jr he is know for speaking his truth and his leadership as a American civil rights. He talked about racial equality and justice for people. I also think he was silenced when they killed him because they killed him because of what he beliefs and people only wanted him to stop talking about racial equality and a lot of people didn't like him. I learned that some people didn't like him because he just spoke the truth and that is what Martin did just speak the truth and some people didn't like that so they killed him for his beliefs.

One of the first people that come to mind when I think of someone being silenced is Abraham Lincoln. With Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation it changed the focus onto the Civil War for abolishing slavery. With this it led to a lot of different opinions between the people and people didn't agree with Lincoln and his movement for African Americans. Unfortunately he was silenced by being assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, by him killing Lincoln he hoped that it would not only silence Lincoln but also the people that followed Lincoln and that the whole thing would stop. But that did not happen Lincoln's people kept his legacy and movement going and although he was silenced his people were not.

The first person who comes to mind about being silenced for me would be Rosa Parks. She was a black woman activist who fought during the Civil Rights movements for equality. Part of her way to stand for what she believed in was protesting in which instead of sitting in the colored only section of the bus which was the back she sat in the front where it was white people only. She refused to get up out of her seat for another white person so the police were called and she was forcibly removed and put in jail for her peaceful protest. We learned from her that there are many forms of protest and ways to go about it. She did this without harming or being vulgar towards anyone leaving a huge impression on the world.

A person that comes to mind is Cesar Chavez who was known as a civil rights protester towards Hispanics and Filipinos. He led non-violent protests, strikes, and boycotts. The protests were made to improve working conditions, wages, and labor rights. Cesar Chavez was silenced at times during his protests by being arrested, harassed, and charged by courts. These attempts to silence him were to undermine him and his protests. Cesar Chavez remarked and taught individuals activism through non-violent resistance to achieve social justice for people of color. As well as the importance of resilience of fighting for civil rights regardless of the threats and challenges that occurred. This demonstrated how commitment and speaking out can spark a change despite the efforts of being silenced.

The person who comes immediately to my mind is Martin Luther King Jr., he was known for leading the American Civil Rights movement against racial segregation. He did this through nonviolent protests. The biggest thing he is known for is his "I Had A Dream" speech, the most iconic and best speeches in History. He won a Noble Piece prize from that speech. He was unfortunately silenced by his assassination. He was assassinated on April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. His assassinator was James Earl Ray, he was the one convicted for the assassination but other seem to believe it was someone else. His assassinators goal was to stop the civil rights movement but their goal failed. MLK'S reputation lives on and the civil rights movement kept going because of Martin Luther King Jr. we live in a more civil world.
