And his friend was also there and just imagine the betrayal that he felt seeing his friend trying or technically killing him. It’s sad but we can’t do anything now.

Ancient Roman Gladiators fought in the colosseum, the games were often brutal and bloody. The games were paid for by wealthy individuals and that person gained popularity, Julius Caesar became very popular by putting large games in the theater. Sometimes the games would last all day. At the start of the day they would use exotic wild animals such as bears, lions, rhinos and elephants. Sometimes the animals would fight each other, sometimes the animals would be hunted by huntsmen, and sometimes criminals would be thrown into the arena to be killed by wild animals. But the main attraction were the gladiators. The gladiators were trained to fight. They used many fighting styles and weapons so each fight would be different and interesting for the people watching. Some gladiators used heavy armor and swords, while other gladiators fought with very little armor in order to be quicker. One type of fighter called a retiarius would use a net and a trident to fight. Each fighting style had its advantages and its disadvantages. Not all of the gladiator fights were to the death. When a gladiator was about to lose and die, He could ask for mercy. Then the crowd or leaders would then decide if the loser would live or die.

Spartacus was born around 109 BC and was best known for leading a slave uprising against Rome. He was a Thracian who joined the Roman army as a young man. However, things didn’t work out and he tried to leave the army but he was caught leaving and he was sold into slavery. Spartacus lived the life of a Roman gladiator. He was basically a slave who was forced to fight for the entertainment of the Romans. He was sent to a gladiator school where he was constantly trained to fight. After the training he was put into the arena to fight animals or other gladiators. Some fights he had were to the death. Soon he became tired of risking his life for entertrainment. He wanted to escape and go home. In 73 BC Spartacus and other 70 gladiators escaped from the gladiator school they were in. They fled to Mount Vesuvius close to the city of Pompeii freeing more slaves as they went. Soon, Spartacus’s army had grown to over 70,000 men. The gladiators used their fighting experience to train the slaves how to fight. Spartacus’s army got defeated by a large Roman army of around 50,000 soldiers. Two generals defeated the slave revolt and killed Spartacus. Spartacus’s body was never found but most historians agree that he was killed on the battlefield.

The Colosseum is a giant amphitheater located in Rome, Italy. The construction of the colosseum started in 72 AD and it was finished 8 years later in 80 AD. The colosseum was huge, able to sit 50,00 people. It covers around 6 acres of land and is 620 feet long, 512 feet wide, and 158 feet tall. It took more than 1.1 million tons of concrete, stone, and bricks to complete the Colosseum. The seats were determined by your social class, The best seats were for the Senators at the bottom, next were the Important Officials, next were the Citizens and Soldiers, then at the top were women and slave. The best seat in the house belongs to the emperor who sat in the Emperor Box. This was one way for the emperor to make the people keep liking him and make them happy. Outside of the Colosseum was a bronze statue of the emperor Nero. It was later turned into a statue of the sun god Invictus. To keep the hot sun and the rain of the spectators, there was a retractable awning called the velarium. The Colosseum had 76 entrances and exits.

Ancient Romans were Polytheistic, meaning that they believed in many gods. Including;

  Jupiter - Came from the Greek god Zeus. Jupiter was the king of the gods and god of thunder and lighting. He was the Patron God of Rome.
• Juno - Juno was the equivalent of the Greek goddess Hera. Juno was Jupiter's wife and queen of the gods. Juno was considered the protector of Rome.
• Mars - Mars came from the Greek god Ares. Mars was the god of war and Jupiter and Juno's son.
• Mercury - Mercury was the equivalent of the Greek god Hermes. He was the god of trade.
• Neptune - Neptune came from the Greek god Poseidon. He was the god of the sea and brother to Jupiter. He also was the patron of horses. Neptune's weapon was a great trident.
• Venus - Venus was the equivalent of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. She was the god of love and beauty.
• Apollo - Apollo was taken directly from Greek god Apollo. He was the god of music, poetry, and archery. His twin sister was Diana.
• Diana - Diana was taken from the Greek goddess Artemis. She was goddess of the hunt, archery, and animals. Her symbols included the moon, the snake, and the bow and arrow.
• Minerva - Minerva comes from the Greek goddess Athena. She was the goddess of wisdom.
• Ceres - Ceres was the equivalent of the Greek goddess Demeter. She was goddess of agriculture and the seasons. It's from the name Ceres that we get the name for cereal.
• Vulcan - Vulcan comes from the Greek god Hephaestus. He was the blacksmith for the rest of the gods and was god of fire. The word volcano comes from the name Vulcan.
• Bacchus - Bacchus comes from the Greek god Dionysus. He was god of wine and the theater. He was the youngest of the major gods and the only one born to a mortal.

Latin was brought to Ancient Rome, Italy by Indo-European immigrants from Northern Europe In 1000 BC. As all languages start, Latin started as an isolated local tongue of a small territory on the Tiber River in Italy called Latium. As people in Latium grew into an organized community, the city of Rome was eventually founded in 753 BC. In a bit over a century, The Latin Romans fell under the sway of Etruscan Kings. Rome also got lucky where they started off because they had natural barriers, these were the two mountains the Alps and the Apennine mountains this meant they were in a mountain valley. They also had a river the Tiber River this one large river game Romans a way to travel and use water for crops.

Trading was easy because Romans were rich because the of the Tiber river giving them water for crops so they had a surplus of crops to sell and trade.They traded many thing even slaves.They were able to trade with Egypt and Mesopotamia  because they were next to a sea so they were able to travel every where.

Rome had a very strong economy meaning they were rich in money and resources.Because of the Tiber River they could gather water to drink and use for their crops to grow they had fertile soil meaning crops were easier to grow.

The government was unfair and corrupt until Julius Caesar came along he was a priest at first but then started taking over Rome this made him a dictator even though dictators get a bad wrap caesar was a kind dictator yes he took over other places but he was kind to his people.He made life easy for people but there is always people who will hate and those people are the rich.The rich got rich because they made lower class people pay more for everything and caesar got rid of the high prices.Ceaser died to the rich who wanted the corrupt style back for more money.
