He did not want to get rid of them at first because he was afraid that it would ruin their economy, but soon there were religious uprising so he ban Christianity. Ieyasu died in 1616, but repression of Christianity continued. Finally in 1637 there was an uprising of 30,000 peasants lead by a samurai. After the Japan ruthlessly persecuted Christians and either killed or drove out European missionaries.</div>]]></description>
