Honeycombs and beeswax are two products that come from bees that have many uses. Bees live in hives that contain honeycombs inside, honeycombs are a mass of six-sided compartments called cells. Honeycombs are used by bees to store honey, pollen, and bee eggs, they are also used to raise young bees. People also use honeycombs, people extract the honey from honey combs and use it as food, it also has healing properties. Honeycombs are made by worker bees, they use a wax to make these honeycombs, that wax is beeswax. Beeswax is made when a worker bee eats lots of honey and glands it has on its abdomen will turn the sugar in the honey into wax, which will come off the gland in little flakes which the bee will chew up then put on the honeycomb. Honeycombs are made of beeswax which worker bees make.

The worker bee and the queen bee are very different, the queen bee stays in the colony and mates with the drones while the worker bee go and pollinate flowers. Worker bees do not mate with the drone bees like a queen does. All of the queen's offspring that are female, except a select few which of one will become the next queen, are worker bees. All the male offspring become drones. The worker bees get food for the other bees, they collect nectar from flowers then turn it into honey for the colony to eat. The worker bee builds the honeycomb that the colony lives and stores food in. While a worker bee’s stinger will fall out when it stings something, killing the bee, a queen bee’s stinger doesn’t fall out when it stings something, queen bees are also larger than worker bees. When a queen bee gets to old worker bees will chose several larvae to become the new queen, once the larvae grow into bees they fight to the death and the survivor becomes the new queen bee. The, the old queen and some worker bees will leave the hive to start a new colony, while the new queen is cared for by the worker bees left behind. A new queen is chosen and cared for by the worker bees and in return the queen makes more worker bees, the worker bee works for the queen bee and the queen bee reproduces so that there can be worker bees.

When a bee hive becomes too crowded or a queen bee becomes too old, bees will leave in a swarm, this is known as swarming. Swarming starts with the worker bees picking out several bee larvae to become the queen bee, once the larvae become grown bees they fight to the death and the winner becomes the new queen. Once the new queen is chosen the old queen will send out special worker bees called scout bees to find a place where a new colony can be started. The scout bees will come back to the hive and evaluate each other's sites and the best site is where the new colony will be started. Most of the worker bees and the old queen will leave in the colony in a swarm following special bees called streaker bees, these bees will lead the swarm to the new area where the bees will start a new colony and stay there until the process needs to be repeated.

There are many enemies of bees, for example the bear is a common example of an enemy of bees. Bears, Argentine ants, and many other animals will attack beehives for honey. Animals like dragonflies and skunks will eat bees. There are even some parasites that attack bees. Honey bee mites are a parasite that target and kill young honey bees. Some diseases also affect bees, American foulbrood and European foulbrood are two diseases that affect bees. They turn bees into lifeless gummy masses. Humans also kill bees, when they spray insecticides meant for other insects they also kill bee, and when people spray weed killers they take away food sources away from bees. Bees have many enemies that include bears, ants, parasites, diseases, and even humans.

Stung is a book about what would happen if we didn't have bees. Bees are very important to our word, they pollinate flowers and keep plants healthy, life would be a lot harder without them. Stung deals with some of the enemies of bees and how they might make bees go extinct and how that will affect the world, it also deals with honey, which comes from honeycombs, and how it might become precious. The book Stung has many things to do with our bee project.
