He was known for his charm and demeanor as well as his superior intelligence. 
Bundy's mother, Eleanor Cowell, had deeply religious parents and his birth was shameful because of Cowell's young age (22). He believed that his mother was his sister and had a strong resentment towards her, but had a relatively normal, privileged childhood. He had a fascination with knifes as a child, and in his teenage years, he would frequently peer into strangers' windows.

He would also visit his previous crime scenes and perform sexual acts with his dead victims. He would decapitate his victims heads and keep them as souvenirs in his house.  He knew he could take advantage of women like this because he worked among a police officer named Ann Rule, who saw him as kind and empathetic. In his college years he started to start skipping classes and abruptly ended his relationship with Stephanie Brooks, his girlfriend of the time. He would tell various people about his crimes and what he did, but there was no actual known date to when he started killing women. He was then arrested in 1975 for the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, who managed to escape from him. He was sentenced 15 years in prison until it was found that he had murder charges for a Colorado woman. He managed to jump out the window at the trial but was caught 8 days later. He escaped from custody again in 1977 and made his way to Tallahassee in Florida. He continued his killings but was then convicted again in 1979. After fighting for his rights for 10 years, he was sentenced to death at the Florida State Prison by electric chair.
