         <title>Ailuropoda Melanolueca (Around 1 CE) </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ailuropoda Melanolueca, also known as the present day Panda can be traced to 1 CE. Above is a picture of what the panda might have looked like. However, they are closely related to the size of a raccoon. Their diet consisted of bamboos, similar to the modern day panda, and had a skull size nearly 1/8th of an adult panda today. The ailuropoda melanolueca was first linked to Europe and lived in mild climates of temperate forests. Fossils of the Panda's tooth show evidence of a heavy bamboo diet. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The K. Beatrix is a distant ancestor of the Giant Panda. This bear lived in Western Europe near humid forests with frequent precipitation. The K. Beatrix has been extinct for millions of years, due to climate changes that made it inhabitable for the bear. Similar to the Ailuropoda Melanoleuca, the K. Beatrix was also a small animal who fed on bamboo and plants. The bear had a similar jaw structure as the A. Melanolueca making it easier to chew bamboo.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Ailuractos Lufengensis (8 million years ago)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ailuractos is known as the "cat bear" that lived during the Late Miocene time period. Unlike previous generations, the bear had a longer face. Paleontologists discovered a 6th "thumb" to grab bamboo. It was not actually a thumb, but a result of a structural change during evolution. The Ailuractos lived in China and looked like a chubby fox half the size of the present panda. It is a possibility that the bear had emerged and dispersed to Asian regions. Just like the bear's ancestors, the Panda survived in tropical/humid forests.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Agriarctos Nikolovi (6 million years ago)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Agriarctos Nikolovi is a distant relative of the Ailuropoda Melanolueca. This bear was much larger, averaging about 6 feet. Swampy regions were suited for the bear's&nbsp;needs instead of tropical temperatures. The structure of the bear's teeth proved to have eaten a bamboo-dominated diet, but not entirely. The molars were not as sharp as previous years to bite through bamboo, but were protective enough against animals. The A. Nikolovi is estimated to be the most modern species of a Panda that is native to Europe. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>About 3 million years ago, the Pygmy Panda had evolved from the A. lufengensis. The skull remains suggest that the&nbsp;size of the panda was slightly smaller than the present panda, with heavy chew marks from bamboo. Migrating to China, the panda lived in lowland tropical forests. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Pygmy Panda, also known as the ailuropoda microta, are classified as the same species except this species is redder. The colors of the previous generations are black and white unlike this generation. While they are closely related, there are quite some differences between the two. Pandas follow a bamboo-only diet while the red pandas fed on bamboo, plants, fruits, or insects. The false "thumb" is much smaller in the red panda than the average panda. Overtime, the extra thumb became modified to the wrist bone to support the grip of bamboo. The red panda also lived in the warm temperates of the bamboo forests in China. They have not been spotted anywhere else around the world.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Ailuropoda Legacious had emerged to other countries across Asia such as Vietnam, Laos, south China, Myanmar, and Thailand. Remains of the panda from the Late Pleistocene period were found in cave deposits. The panda lived in cooler regions unlike the previous generations, but still near bamboo. Bamboo was still the main source of food for the pandas, and not much about its structure has changed throughout time except for its small size. There is a slight red tint in the chest of the panda.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This panda is much larger than the modern panda today. Skull remains suggest that there were changes in jaw structure and teeth. However, the habitat and the diet remained the same. The teeth were bigger that helped the panda digest larger/thicker pieces of bamboo. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The modern day panda is large, black and white. They live in Southwestern China, in mountainous/high-leveled areas due to constant deforestation. The birth of pandas has declined heavily over the past years. Pandas live in zoos or centers around the world but are only native to China. They are sedentary animals, living off of bamboo day by day. Although they are "lazy", the affect of human activities has helped them able to climb up to 13,000 feet in the air to survive. The bamboo is very important to their health as the pandas need at least two habitats to live off of or starvation will occur. The modern day panda weighs an average of 200 pounds.&nbsp;The overall structure of the panda remains the same except larger.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Future for Pandas</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While Pandas are no longer an endangered species, they are still classified as vulnerable to extinction. One of the leading causes of this risk is habitat loss. Pandas survive in forests, but the frequent deforestation from humans results in a loss for Pandas. Pandas were once animals around the world. However, they are now mainly spotted in China due to habitat loss. As a result, there is a possibility that Pandas will become extinct in a matter of a few hundred years. In the meantime, the only option left is to adapt to a new environment. Unfortunately the Pandas struggle to adapt to a new environment because of the need for bamboo and changing climate.&nbsp;</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
