Spending time outdoors and observing the environment has sparked my imagination and thoughts. I acknowledge that children “are curious and eager to follow the path of curiosity. They’re observant and imaginative – often seeing patterns, shapes, and possibilities that adults rarely notice. Children are also intense, sensitive, and highly competent” (Wilson, 2018, p. 1). After engaging all of my senses, I have come up with a game that I would play using the surrounding materials, landscape, and soundscape. When I looked at the trees and plants, the variety of shapes and types of plants made them look alive in my imagination. Then the plants started moving and shaking in the sudden wind. With the sounds of the rustling leaves, these plants are awakened in my story. Throughout my childhood, I have always been interested in adventure and exploration games. Treasure hunt or escape room used to give me so much joy and excitement. As a result, I immediately got the idea of this dramatic play. This play gave life to the ordinary objects surrounding me. The Parallaxis’ idea of what if the objects around us are not as normal as we always see and portray them. But rather, their potential is limitless (Kilby, 2017). These objects can become anything in the story that we write for them.

Wilson (2018) has stated that the skills and social, cultural, and physical discoveries are learned through play and cannot be taught. Players move in outdoor spaces, responding dynamically to auditory cues and natural obstacles, limitations of cues and hints encouraged imaginative and thoughtful action. Moreover, the host’s role in hiding the key and providing hints created an improvisational narrative, allowing the explorers to act in their roles and respond spontaneously, embodying a story in the play. The temporal arts have demonstrated how children explore, problem-solve, collaborate, and learn holistically in outdoor settings, blending physical, emotional, and imaginative experiences.

In an early childhood setting, this experience highlights the value of integrating sound, movement, and drama within play-based learning, especially outdoors, to support overall development. In contrast to structured indoor practices, this approach embraces unpredictability, sensory engagement, and creative problem-solving. By intentionally creating spaces where children respond to natural and designed cues, I can foster curiosity, imagination, and collaboration.
