Student groups research the history of Cinco de Mayo and place the event markers using Google Earth. As this is a very misunderstood holiday it is important for students to know that understanding is only fully understood when all points are included... France, Mexico and the USA. Students are asked to provide videos for each point. In the end, students are amazed that it is much easier to find those videos for USA --- a Mexican holiday.

Students have main role and then a secondary... for secondary it is their job to step in to motivate/help primary when they are stuck. Students love this opportunity... they know now that they are preparing all unit long... they have only 1 night to prepare their 2 'jobs' and next day is to present/discuss... I never have to remind them to speak Spanish on this day ! Google Translate is not around.... students have said this is one of their favorites as they are amazed how much they can say!

Charades practice of vocabulary words for the week. This could help some students remember words that might otherwise be too difficult or too similar to another on the list.

Summative Final Project/Rebekah Jackson

Students work through a series of questions based on the course material that they have read and viewed- there are approximately 30-50 questions that are fill-in-the=blank, like a treasure hunt back through the course material. This is effective with courses that are delivered online with the lectures in written form along with videos. The project is available for a one week period- giving students time to "discover" and collect the answers. Note- I have performed exams similar to this and felt that it was both a tremendous learning method in terms of reinforcing the material and testing my recall of the material by demonstrating that I knew the material by 1) knowing where in the course to locate the answer and 2) the answer- the reinforcement happened as I went back through the material. If a student had not read or listened to the material earlier during the course, the project would take much longer to complete.

I would create a multiple choice test for two reasons- 1) as an easy assessment to make sure the students are reading their text assignment and 2) to assess recall of terms.
